The cottage is situated adjacent to the iconic West Highland Railway Line (Harry Potter) which is one of the top ten railway journeys in the world. There are only around eight slow trains a day and none at night. Wave at the friendly train drivers and watch for the odd steam train or classic luxury carriages. The cottage is also next to the world famous West Highland Way walking route, which is one of the top ten walks in the world. Nearby, the River Orchy offers some of the best fishing and white water sports in Scotland. Taransay Cottage at Bridge of Orchy is ideally placed for hillwalking, hiking, cycling, skiing, sightseeing, railway enthusiasts or simply exploring the Highlands, Glencoe or further to Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye. Easy to get to by road and rail, the cottage is just 15 minutes drive to historic Glencoe, a great hillwalking base and skiing location, at Glencoe Mountain Ski Resort. For those wanting to hillwalk or climb there are 25 munros (mountains over 914 metres) within a 10 mile radius. There are several castles and historic places of interest within a short drive in all directions.
The beautiful River Orchy is just 3 minutes walk away and is one of Scotland's best salmon fishing rivers and popular with white water enthusiasts. Oban, gateway to the isles, is under an hour away. Bridge of Orchy is just 1.5 hours from Glasgow, on the West Highland Railway line and adjacent to the A82. A good base to travel to Glencoe, Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Oban, or further afield to Inverness or Skye.
