About this property

A stylish cottage, in the heart of the delightful village of Grosmont

Mallard Cottage one of two Self Catering Holiday Cottages
There are two charming cottages which are tucked away down quiet green cul de sac right in the heart of Grosmont. They will delight train enthusiasts as they are very close to Grosmont Station, which is home to the North York Moors Railway, you may see trains chuffing past the windows of the cottage, but mostly the trains are parked alongside. There is a two bedroom and a one bedroom cottage which can be rented together for a larger group booking.

This charming character two bedroomed cottage has recently been completely re decorated and re-furbished and is now contemporary, light and air whilst retaining its cosy vibe. It is situated next to the steam train station in the popular village of Grosmont.
This cottage is all on the ground floor, has a cosy sitting room with a stone fireplace, all mod cons and lots of character. It can be used in conjunction with one bedroomed Three Trees Cottage next door. The cottage is a only a two minute walk from all the local amenities that Grosmont has to offer, a pub with great food: The Station Tavern four cafe/tearooms, an art gallery with a fabulous and funky pizza bar, a village shop which is in fact the oldest co-op in the country, a main line train service as well as the glorious steam train that chug through on a regular basis. About the host

Host profile image
Our family has lived in this part of the world for over 20 years now, and we think its some of the most iconic and beautiful landscapes to be found anywhere in Britain.
Grosmont House itself is an imposing and handsome building pleasantly situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Grosmont. We are delighted to be able to call Grosmont House ‘home’. Having purchased the property in 2016 we have been undertaking extensive refurbishment to breathe new life into this wonderful Victorian building and the two cottages.

Why they chose this property

These two cottages were originally the stable block and were converted some twenty years ago. Since we took on the property our focus has moved from the main house to the cottages, where we have been gradually working on updating them, to give them a fresh and bright look.

What makes this property unique

Grosmont a thriving village is home to the North York Moors Railway: a working and vibrant museum to the wonders of steam rail travel. There is a glorious twenty miles of rail track, taking you by steam train to the many villages along the way and onto the picturesque market town of Pickering.
We feel blessed to live in such place, with such an abundance of things to do and places to see. From our doorstep we can walk along the many country footpaths, including the coast to coast path and the rail trail which follows the route of the steam trains to Goathland. Beautiful National Park countryside, moorlands and coastline combine to offer many delights in this very special part of North Yorkshire.

Whether it’s the proximity of the nearby coastal resort of Whitby, the quaint picture postcard fishing village of Robins Hoods Bay, the attraction of outdoor pursuits such as walking, bird watching, fishing, biking or pony trekking, or simply time to just relax in perfect surroundings, this delightful setting in the North York Moors is an ideal base.
You can expect a warm welcome from your hosts, help and advice on the local area, and the knowledge that if there’s anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, we will do so.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Selma, Chris and family.
