A penthouse apartment with balconies facing west and east, breathtaking views

This modern, top (10th) floor apartment boasts stunning and unique panoramic views from its two balconies. The east balcony looks out over the Serra do Pilar monastery on the banks of the Douro, across the city of Porto to the hills in the distance. The west balcony boasts stunning, uninterrupted views of the river Douro, and the world heritage historical centres of Porto and Gaia and out towards the estuary beyond.

We offer a choice of two luxuriously appointed apartments, which together occupy the top floor of the building. Each has its own east-facing terrace and west-facing river view balcony as described above.

Apartment T1 sleeps 1 - 4 people and has one double bedroom and lounge with large flat-screen TV and full sized pocket sprung sofa bed.

Apartment T2 sleeps 1-5 people and has one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a foldaway 5th bed on request.

In both apartments there is a home laundry machine, dishwasher, large refrigerator, coffee machine, hob, microwave, microwave/grill (T1) or oven (T2), toaster, kettle, large bath with overhead shower, bidet, balcony dining facilities, high speed (30mB) fibre optic WiFi and cable TV and a selection of DVDs. Apartment T1 also has a TV in the bedroom.

There are two elevators in the building. There is a public underground car park just across the road, which is secured at night, and costs €9 for 24 hours.

We are a couple who travelled from the UK, we stayed in Lisbon for 4 days and then travelled to Vila Nova De Gaia, which is just across the river from Porto. We used the Alfa pendular train service, which takes 2hours 30 min and costs Euro 54 each return in second class. Booked the day before, our reserved seat was next to the buffet, with a lot more space and comfort than those in the UK. We got off at Vila Nova De Gaia station where the apartment owners had agreed to meet us, they were there waiting and took us to the apartment, which is only 5 minutes away.

The owners were enormously friendly and helpful, showed us around the apartment and gave us hints and tips as to what to do and how to get around the city. They left a contact number which we texted a number of times for advice and they always responded immediately.

The apartment was perfect for us, there were essentials in the fridge and cupboards, nothing beats a cold beer from the fridge or cup of coffee as you unpack and settle in. The balcony at the back overlooked the river, we sat each evening watching amazing sun sets. At the front is a large terrace with table and chairs and a sun lounger, here we ate breakfast looking out over the mountains in the distance.

The apartment is on the main route into Porto. The metro, service buses and tour buses stop a few yards from the apartment and gave us easy access to the city, there was plenty of information in the apartment. We bought a day andante tour ticket from the station up on the right; it cost Euro 7 each and gave 24 hour access on all public transport.

Things we really enjoyed were a lunch of fresh fish in Matosinhos, get there by metro or tour bus; lunch at Café Majestic, we got there at noon to beat the queue, steak is to die for; Evening meal at Costume; Portuguese red wine; the Portuguese people who can never do enough for you.

Great Apartment

This is a great apartment in a great location. It's very easy to access and because it's across the river it has great views. The apartment is well maintained and very comfortable and the balconies offer a nice place to chill in the evening.

Dealing with Shaz was very easy and straight forward too so all in all we were very happy customers.

Great apartment and location

Really loved this apartment! On arrival, Shaz collected us from the train station which was great. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment, it was really spacious and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The balcony is great to sit out and have breakfast/lunch, while the balcony off of the bedroom has the most amazing view of porto. Really loved porto itself, the apartment allowed us to walk everywhere. some fab restaurants to sample and lots to see around the city, probably one of the nicest cities in Europe!

Gorgeous apartment

Loved this apartment, location was perfect, the views were amazing. I don't think any 5 star hotel in Porto had the views we had, from either balcony. Place was very well furnished and extremely clean. Kitchen had everything you could need if you wanted to cook. We stayed in the 2 bedroomed and had plenty of room for four of us (2 adults and 2 older teenagers). There was a lovely coffee shop across the road near an amazing bakery and a well stocked supermarket. ATM machine outside the building, 2 metro stops and lots of buses stop almost outside the door. Its located 12 mins easy walk from Sao Bento station and 15/20 min from El Corte shopping centre. All port cellars are in the area. This apartment is highly recommended for a stay in Porto. The owner was really nice and answered any query I had within an hour.

Perfect location for exploring Porto and Gaia

The apartment was very nice, it had all we needed, and more actually; with two balconies we were very spoilt but made the most of it. Beautiful sunsets over Porto and the Port wine lodges. The location of the apartment could not have been better, few minutes walk to the river front, tram just in front of the door, train station around the corner (the latter we used to get to the beach in 15mins) and a short and stunning walk over the amazing Luis I bridge and we were in the centre of Porto or the UNESCO world heritage site of the Ribeira, all museums and sights. Even a walk (or run) to the beach along the river is well worth it.

The apartment itself was very clean and well-maintained.

The owners are very friendly and even picked us up from the airport (thanks so much for that again!).

Would definitely recommend this apartment and don't have a bad thing to say about any aspect of our whole stay.

A truly great apartment.

My wife and I rented this apartment for a week in early April 2015. We were very happy with it. The photos truly depict the apartment. It was clean and very nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable. Balconies in front AND back. The view from the rear balcony is incredible. The location is great with metro and bus stops practically outside the front door of the building. We can't say enough good things about our experience there. Shaz and Yvonne are excellent hosts. They were also very helpful. They left us a nice bottle of port and some beers in the fridge, got us out of a jam, I could go on but I think you get the idea. Rent this apartment, you won't be disappointed.

One tip: Don't leave the key in the door (inside either).

Fabulous view AND perfect location

We were so impressed with our beautiful accommodations; not only was the view amazing, but the apartment was clean, bed very comfortable, but there was a delicious bottle of port to enjoy as a night cap and the refrigerator was stocked with breakfast items. The owners are a lovely couple who acclimated us to the apartment, neighborhood, and interesting local sights.

We have told our friends and family that they must go to Porto, the people are very friendly, and our stay in this beautiful home was amazing. Thank you!

Situated in the heart of Porto, this is a 10th floor luxury penthouse apartment, with two unique features: a large terrace balcony facing east, with dining and sun lounging facilities and overlooking the beautiful and historic Serra do Pilar monastery, and a west facing balcony with arm chairs and stunning, breathtaking panoramic views of the River Douro and the port houses below.

The apartment is ideally located next to the famous Luis I bridge and Jardim do Morro gardens, on the prestigious Avenida da República, just a few steps from the Teleférico cable car terminal leading down to the riverside. You really are centrally placed for everything the city has to offer, and yet can enjoy the peace and quiet of being on the top floor of a building with the best views the city has to offer.

Most of Porto's attractions are within easy walking distance. Walk to the left out of the apartment and in under a minute you will find yourself on the famous Luis I bridge, with the Gaia Ribeira (riverside) underneath you to the left and the Porto Ribeira to the right. The Sé (Porto Cathedral) is just five minutes further walk. Whether you walk, catch the metro, the bus or the open top tour bus - all from right outside the door of the apartment building - everything you could wish to see is just a short and easy trip away.

Sample vintage port whilst touring the Port wine houses of Gaia, listen to the traditional Portuguese fado music at one of the many fado clubs and restaurants, or take a cruise down the river Douro for an hour or for a few days. Or simply take the bus or a 10 minute train ride to the blue flag beaches of Lavadores, Salgueiros, Miramar and Francelos, among the most beautiful on the green coast.

As the apartment is on the 10th floor with two balconies, small children are welcome but please be aware of the safety issues. Pets may be welcome by arrangement but the same safety issues apply. Regarding wheelchair access and elderly/infirm, there are three small steps at the front of the apartment building which would need to be navigated. There are two elevators. There are no stairs within the apartment itself. Visitors are welcome to smoke on the balconies but not inside the apartment.
