This new 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom waterfront apartment is situated in a luxury complex in Greencastle, Inishowen, known as the 'The Fort' built in the grounds of the historic Napoleonic Fort and Martello Tower. The Fort stands on a cliff top overlooking Lough Foyle and is a short walk away from the famous Greencastle fishing village, golf course and Magilligan Ferry (15 minute crossing takes you to the North Coast of Northern Ireland - Portrush, Portstewart, Castlerock etc.)
The Greencastle Martello Tower, chosen for its strategic prominence was built c.1801 on the very same rocky outcrop as the much earlier adjacent Northburgh Castle.
The Inishowen coastline has some of the most picturesque landscapes in Ireland with many award winning golden beaches. Most of the peninsula has been designated a European special area of conservation helping to protect migrating birds and indigenous wildlife. The surrounding waters are renowned for their variety of fresh fish making Greencastle one of the busiest fishing ports in the country. Local amenities include golf (6 golf courses in the Inishowen area), sailing or water skiing on Lough Foyle, horse riding, fishing, walking, climbing and cycling. A 15 minute car ferry service to Magilligan Strand in Northern Ireland operates in the Summer.
The local village, a walk away is renowned for its restaurants featuring fresh fish and its lively pubs. There is a scenic shore walk to the village and golf course. Derry City Centre with its comprehensive shopping, and recreational facilities is accessible in approximately 25 minutes by car. There are also other retail outlets a similar drive away.
The Fort is steeped in historical significance and is located in a private road with several houses and two apartment buildings each comprising of 8 Apartments. Number 38 is in the second apartment complex situated at the end of the private road.

The terrace is furnished with table and chairs and you can sit outside the kitchen sipping your morning cup of tea and only the dolphins can see you. Loungers and beach chairs are provided in the apartment for your comfort.
The property has just been fitted with broadband so there is free WiFI.
2015 was our first year renting out this property so currently there are just a few reviews. However, to get an ides of the standard of our holiday lets for our other properties look at reviews for 841091 HomeAway (Seabathing Hospital Margate) or QN3172 Brittany Ferries (France) - Barfleur.
We live and work in London, have day jobs and our joint hobby/ business is buying holiday homes in unusual locations and letting them out as holiday lets. It is not just financial, it gives us enormous pleasure when people have amazing relaxing holidays and then return another year. We try to provide for every eventuality in the apartment.
Elaine Ruse purchased this apartment in 2014
My husband was browsing the net and showed me a picture of the view from a similar property for sale in the Fort. The view of the Lough through the floor to ceiling windows with a ship passing by blew me away. I sat for 10 minutes just looking at the view and knew we had to buy 'that view'. We did.
We chose this particular apartment as it has a wrap around large secure private terrace overlooking Lough Foyle. Our apartment was finished in 2014 and my husband fished (he caught a number of fish!) from the rocks outside the apartment soon after completion with dolphins swimming around in front of him. I sat reading on the rocks. Heaven. Broadband has just been fitted so there is free WiFi.
We really appreciate staying in such a lovely apartment in such a beautiful spot and everything we could need - you have thought of everything. We have had many holidays over the years but think you have managed to top the list for everything that would save the holiday maker having to go to the shops when they have forgotten something. We had a really restful holiday - the most fantastic views anyone could want. We would love to come next year. Pat and Terri (Thank you card left in apartment)
We loved the apartment and especially the living room and main bedroom with its views of the lough. The apartment was well equipped and Mark who gave us the keys was great and really helpful.
We liked Greencastle - although some small, the seafood restaurant was lovely and the golf club was also very good. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. It is in a good position for the Giant's Causeway etc plus part of the wild Atlantic Way. We loved taking the ferry which buzzes back and forth and which we could see from the apartment.
Have to say this property is everything it's made up to be. lovely apartment with a great view. Even though the weather wasn't perfect. We still very much enjoyed our time there. Was nice to park the car and walk into Greencastle for a meal at Kealys which was excellent. Best Haddock Ive had in a while. And a pint at the Ferryport bar which was very friendly. Enjoyed our walks along the path on the ocean. We did have some sunny days. But even sitting inside looking out watching the rain on the ocean and the ships going by was a joy. Thank you Elaine for sharing your home with us. And a Thank You to Mark for meeting us and making sure all was OK. I do hope to return again in hopefully the not to distant future.
Greta apartment, beautiful scenery.
I would do it again.
It is rare that a location exceeds the online description and photos and I was thrilled that the Condo did just that. On top of the fabulous views, furnishings and amenities, I was so impressed with the attention to detail and the care offered by both the owner and property manager. I would definitely return and highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay and tour from in Donegal!
A thoughtfully and tastefully furnished new apartment, built within a site of a Napoleonic fort, with breath taking views over Lough Foyle.
The apartment is kept scrupulously clean and has all the equipment and more you need for a comfortable home from home experience. The location is secure and very peaceful (except for the lapping of the waves a couple of meters from your bedroom window!). A few minutes short walk along a private path takes you to the town center where you will find one of the best fish restaurants in the country.
Regardless of the weather or season this is an ideal base to explore the bountiful natural history, rich history and culture of Donegal.
We had a lovely holiday at this outstanding apartment, which far exceeded my expectations. The views from the floor to ceiling windows in the lounge, kitchen and master bedroom are breath taking. Imagine my joy early one morning as I was sipping my tea on the terrace to see a dolphin flipping in the water.
The apartment has a luxurious feel to it and is finished to a very high standard. The furnishings are very good quality and tasteful. It is spotless and extremely well equipped; the owners have anticipated the needs of their clients exceptionally well. The WIFI connection is excellent. The terrace runs the length of the apartment and offers panoramic views; it has a sheltered area so you can sit out in any weather. The apartment offers complete privacy.
We really enjoyed the shore walk from the apartment to Moville (about 5km), pretty coves and stunning scenery. In Moville we ate in Inish Fusion (great steak), Rosata’s (a pub serving good food with a great atmosphere) and Biddy’s (a café/takeaway - great burgers/good fish and chips).
If you turn left out of the apartment and walk along the shore there are some stunning coves by the golf course. We walked down for dinner in Greencastle golf club one evening and ate overlooking the lough.
We walked the shore path to Greencastle and went on the ferry as foot passengers over to Magilligan Point bar where we had a delicious meal then got the ferry back home again. It’s a lovely thing to do.
The Inishowen Peninsular is beautiful and there is plenty to see and do. We enjoyed the Doagh famine village and the Gleneven Waterfalls. Tullagh Bay was vast and serene and we were the only ones on it. One beautiful day we drove to Kinnagoe Bay which was stunning and my daughter swam in the sea. There are folding beach chairs in the apartment and even a flask, so we had a picnic on the beach.
We had such a lovely holiday here and can’t wait to return to this fabulous apartment. What a wonderful way to start the day: sipping that first cup of tea whilst looking out over the lough.
This magnificent inishowen apartment with phenomenal views and large secure private gated terrace, overlooks Lough Foyle. Dolphins and other sea life are clearly visible from the apartment as well as fishing boats, cruise boats and the ferry from Magilligan to Greencastle. The pubs, restaurants and takeaways are just a short walk away. Similarly with the Golf - just walk there. The walks, especially the coastal paths are breathtakingly beautiful- with so much to explore. If you fancy some retail therapy there are two shopping centres in Londonderry - Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, etc. TK Max is located at one of the retails parks. Moville is a 5 mins drive away.
