The Old Chequer is situated in the hamlet of Draycott and is Grade II listed, former 17th century public house, one of the oldest houses in the village, dating back to the 1600s. The property has been sympathetically restored and features an inglenook fireplace, exposed beams, Cotswold stone walls and flagstone floor. Outside there is an enclosed pretty cottage garden with patio area.

Draycott is a small hamlet located between Moreton-in-Marsh and Blockley. Easily accessible from London with a two hour drive or a ninety minute train journey from Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh, making it easy to escape to the countryside and witness the marvels of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty including nearby Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold, to name but a few.

Blenheim Palace: Situated at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, OX20 1PP, the home of His Grace the Duke of Marlborough. This magnificent palace is open to the public. Walk through some its 200 acres of parklands. The beautiful gardens here were laid out by Capability Brown.

Bourton on the Water: A beautiful Cotswold village, with its own bird sanctuary, miniature model village, trout farm and perfumery.

Broadway Tower & Country Club: Situated just outside Broadway, Middle Hill, Broadway, WR12 7LB. The folly was built by the Earl of Coventry and the grounds hold an adventure playground, a collection of rare animals and a restaurant which is housed in a converted Cotswold barn.

Cotswold Farm Park: Situated at Bemborough Farm, Kineton, Cheltenham, GL54 5UG, near Guiting Power (on the Snowshill to Bourton on the Water road). Founded twenty years ago by a local farmer, the park is now a refuge for the many localised ancient breeds of farm stock. Good place to take the children. 01451 850307

Cotswold Wildlife Park: This beautiful park and house is situated just outside Burford on the Swindon Road, Broadway Grove, Burford, OX18 4JP. Large variety of wild life, insect and reptile house, aquariums, aviaries, adventure playground, miniature railway, picnic areas and restaurants. The house is open to the public. Dovers Hill, Chipping Campden: Owned by the National Trust, this has a superb view from which the Black Mountains in Wales can be seen on a clear day.

This is the site of the Cotswold Olympics founded by Sir Robert Dover in the 17th Century to keep the locals amused, but was banned in the 19th Century. It now takes place in the first week in June with a torchlight procession down into Chipping Campden following the games. The next day is 'Scuttlebrook Wake'. This is a carnival in Chipping Campden.

Hidcote Manor: Located at Hidcote Bartrim, Chipping Campden, GL55 6LR. The finest gardens in the country are to be found just four miles outside Chipping Campden. Hidcote is owned by the National Trust. 01386 438333

Dovers Games takes place in the first week of June. The day after the games, the ‘Scuttlebrook Wake’ Carnival and Fairground is held in Chipping Campden High Street.
