Luxury south-facing apartment with 3 bedrooms, 1 double, 2 twins, sleeps 6

In the heart of the Swiss Alps, this six-year old first floor apartment has a south facing balcony with uninterrupted views of waterfalls and snow capped mountain peaks. Within easy reach of the village of Lauterbrunnen for access to local shops, restaurants and the local train/cable car services to the major town of Interlaken and the Alpine villages of Wengen, Grindlewald and Murren, from which you can access the many hundreds of kilometres of walking trails and ski runs. The apartment is ideally suited for summer and winter holidays. It has new furniture and underfloor heating throughout. The kitchen is well equipped with granite worktops, ceramic hob, oven, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer in the bathroom.

The open plan living area has ample seating and dining places for 6 people, and guests can enjoy DVD's and 400+ international television and radio channels on the plasma screen TV. There is also an i-pod docking station and wireless internet throughout

Summer in the Berner Oberland: The Lauterbrunnen Valley is known as the valley of waterfalls and is a mecca for all outdoor and extreme sports. The short walk (1km) to Lauterbrunnen Station is the starting point to give you access to mountain railways and cable cars and the mountain villages they serve. From these villages you have an almost limitless choice of walking and cycling trails of varying difficulties. From the apartment you can walk along the river path, past the Trummelbach Falls to Stechelberg. From here you can catch the cable car up to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria, made famous in the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and its revolving restaurant. Staying in the village gives you access to shops and excellent restaurants, tennis, swimming and crazy golf. The Air Glacier Helicopters run pleasure flights around the region.

Winter in the Berner Oberland: The ski and toboggan slopes of Wengen and Murren are less than 20 minutes from the apartment. The post bus stops outside the apartment and takes skiers and non-skiers directly to Lauterbrunnen station, and then trains and cable cars take you up to either Wengen or Murren. The ski season runs from December to April. There are 210 km of prepared pistes (First, Kleine Scheidegg, Mannlichen and Murren-Schilthorn) accessible from Lauterbrunnen and these cover all abilities from beginner to advanced, as well as opportunities for off piste skiing with local guides. The cost of the lift pass includes access to all lifts, trains, cable cars and buses. Equipment is available to hire from local shops in the village.

We love the village and the area, with great walking in the summer and great skiing in the winter. We bought this particular apartment as it is on the edge of the development and is only 2 or 3 with an uninterrupted view up the valley.

  • The bathroom has two sinks and a heated towel rail, as well as a large walk in shower. A hair dryer is also provided. The washing machine and separate tumble dryer is fitted into the bathroom.

  • All beds have feather pillows and duvets and the main bedroom with the large double bed has full length patio doors which open directly onto the south facing balcony. All bedrooms have wardrobes (two doubles and one triple) with ample storage and hanging space for clothing. One of the twin bedrooms also has a dressing table. Two of the bedrooms also have valet stands.

Notes:
There is an outdoor swimming pool in the village which is about 200 m from the apartment. In the winter there is an indoor pool at the Hotel Jungfrau (300 m from the apartment), which is open to non residents. Some of the hotels also have spa facilities, for those after a little pampering. There is a communal tennis court and crazy golf less than 5 minutes walk from the apartment. In the winter, the tennis court becomes an ice rink. Our local manager (English and German speaking) will provide with the key to the apartment and show you around. She can also arrange for a pack of groceries to be delivered if required (please contact us for more information) The apartment has Internet access (wifi) and its use is included in your rental cost

The property was great of the 4 of us..

The property itself was great. There were a few issues that could be substantially better. Please do not have the Home Away web site as the only point of information on getting the actual/specific building and unit information and the location of the key to get in. Please send a separate email with this key information to the individual 2 to 3 weeks prior to arriving. Don't just include it with other "stuff" in the HomeAway website. We didn't know what the unit address or where the key was and thank God the Tourist Information office was willing to call Sean in England for details. Unfortunately when we needed it most our email, once we found a way to connect to wifi, did not work. We never did see and talk to Kathy, the manager the entire stay. I guess she charges $50 or 50 CHF per visit and that includes one free visit - that never happened. She never asked when would be the best time to meet.

The campsite Schutzenbach across the street is very uncooperative and nasty toward folks trying to get information on staying in this unit. Schutzenbach folks say they get this common complaint very often and they said the folks that rent out these units need to be more helpful in getting the urgently needed information to the renters better - like what unit is for us the renter and where is the key to get in. All the other stuff about the area, places to see and go are secondary. The units are in a small complex of building that all look the same but have different addresses like 208X, 208W, 208V etc. There are about 6 apartments per building. We had no information on what unit or what apartment we were staying in. This information is wrapped up in the HomeAway web site which is not straight forward or easy to find or interpret.

Recycling is is great, however when on vacation in a new area finding the drop sites for glass is different than cardboard, plastic, returnable bottles, trash etc. and without a car is an added challenge.

You must wash the dishes and put away, take out all the trash, strip the bedding and towels and generally clean the place before leaving. It seems the 180 CHF for cleaning and the 30 CHF person for linens is very expensive, but all part of the rent.

Other than that the location and facility is great.

Owner's Response: All the property information, including the full address and detailed instructions to find the apartment are all included in the Homeway App, an invite to which is sent to every guest as soon as they make the booking. All this information is also sent to all guests in advance as two attachments before they arrive. Included in this information is information about the key location and the contact details for the local manager, who is always happy to come round and help. Generally, she will keep a low profile and let guests enjoy their holiday, without pestering them, but is always on call for problems, should they occur. Unfortunately, Switzerland is an expensive country and the costs for cleaning and linen are passed on as charged.

Comfortable chalet with awesome scenery!

We sincerely enjoyed our stay at this chalet. The view from the balcony was stunning. It's amazing how much the weather changes the look of the valley which we had the pleasure to experience. The apartment was clean and ready upon our arrival. It was a great location for a launching pad to other parts of the area. Plenty of hikes and activities in the area or a short walk to the Lauterbrunnen train station. Restaurant options are limited in the area are limited and pricey but there is a small grocery store in town. Be prepared to spend quite a lot on food relative to other countries.

This is a great apartment and the owner was responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!

Good launch pad for hiking Wengen and Gimmelwald

A very high standard of accommodation

The chalet is very well equipped with everything you need. It is spacious, clean and comfortable. It's location is handy to catch a bus and is only a short walk into the centre of town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend!! Love this place ❤

Lauterbrunnen is a small alpine village in the famous Jungfrau region in Switzerland. It is the ideal base for both summer and winter holidays for hiking, skiing, sledging or mountain biking, or you can take gentle walks through the breathtaking mountain scenery. The valley has many waterfalls, including the 300 m high Staubbach Falls at the edge of the village and the Trummelbach Falls, which thunder through mountain caverns.

The village itself has several shops and restaurants, as well as a post office and two banks. There is also a small convenience store (open all week) a few minutes walk from the apartment.

Lauterbrunnen is the starting point for the cable cars and mountain railways which climb through beautiful scenery to the car free resorts of Wengen and Murren (both less than 20 minutes from the apartment) and onto the Jungfraujoch, which at 3454 m is Europe's highest railway station. The Schiltorn/Piz Gloria, made famous by James Bond is at the end of this valley

Other Activities: White water rafting, helicopter rides, heli-skiing.

Rates do not include linen or and end of stay clean. These are payable locally in Swiss Francs to our local manager. An end of stay clean is CHF180 and linen is charged at CHF30 per person per week. Additional cleaning charges will be deducted from the security deposit. Payment can be made by debit or credit card securely. In addition you will need to pay CHF3,20 per adult per night and CHF1,10 per child (6-16yrs) per night for local tourist taxes. This and the cleaning and linen charges are paid locally and a separate invoice will be sent for these amounts.
