Bedrooms 5
Space 4,090 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Colterscleuch House is a Victorian farmhouse, lovingly restored to retain its period charm yet provide modern comforts.

We are set amidst rural farmland in the beautiful Scottish Borders' Teviot Valley.

The location is ideal for exploring all of the Scottish and English Borderlands. The Lothians and Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, are also within striking distance and the new Waverley Line allows you to take a beautiful train journey to the city while avoiding traffic and parking charges. Northumberland, Cumbria and the Lake District are an easy drive.

Colterscleuch House was refurbished in 2013 to provide modern comfortable living yet it keeps its Victorian charm and features.

Until November 2017 the house provided 4 star B&B accommodation and from 2013 it was continuously positioned as number 1 B&B in the area on Trip Advisor. We will continue to provide a warm welcome to guests taking the whole house to enjoy and relax in.

There are 5 large bedrooms each sleeping two people. Three of the bedrooms have generous en suite bathrooms, each with underfloor heating, large enamel bath and hotel quality shower over the bath. There is one shower room downstairs with corner cabinet and electric shower. All bedrooms are on the first floor, accessed via stairs with a banister on one side.

Bedroom 1: King bed with en suite bathroom.

Bedroom 2: Twin beds with en suite bathroom.

Bedroom 3: King bed with en suite bathroom.

Bedroom 4: King bed and is connected to bedroom 5.

Bedroom 5: Bunk beds and is connected to bedroom 4.

(en suites 2 and 3 can be shared with rooms 4 & 5 as they can be accessed via a small vestibule without entering the bedrooms).

Downstairs living has a large dining room with original shutters on the windows, a large lounge with original window shutters and open fire, TV and BluRay/DVD player, a large collection of DVDs and games. The large farmhouse kitchen has a range style cooker with large induction hob, fan ovens, grill and plate warmer. There is a fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and it is well equipped with pots, pans and crockery. It is perfect for catering for groups. There is also a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryers.

All bed linens and towels are supplied. If you require a change of linens during your stay, there may be an additional charge for this.

Wi-fi is free and unlimited. As we are rural, our broadband is not superfast. Streaming movies and playing games consoles with live streaming is not usually possible, especially at peak times or when multiple devices are connected to the Wi-Fi. We have an extensive collection of DVDs to enjoy during your stay.

Central heating and hot water are supplied by our 'green energy' biomass boiler and are included in the cost of your rental. Together with our new double glazing, the house is cosy and more environmentally friendly all year round.

We will provide the first basket of logs, coal scuttle, kindling and fire lighters for the open fire in the lounge. Each basket of logs and coal scuttle after that is charged at £5 each. A basket should last an evening and a scuttle of coal will last two evenings.

There is plenty of off road private parking space for multiple vehicles. Cycles and outdoor equipment can be stored in the carport at the rear of the house.

Our large Victorian gardens are full of birds and wild life. We deliberately leave some areas wild to encourage life to thrive around us. We will top up the bird feeders around the house at the start of your stay for you to enjoy the many species which will visit you.

Colterscleuch is a beautiful place to make great holiday memories.

We love living in this friendly farming community. Having been in Edinburgh for a number of years, it was bliss to switch to a more relaxed pace of life with fresh air and an abundance of wildlife all around us.
