Le Tandem is a holiday gîte in the picturesque village of Ménessaire in the Morvan Regional Natural Park at the heart of the Burgundy region of France. The building is the former village cafe/store/dance hall and was the social centre for the villagers for around 200 years. It enjoys beautiful views of the Morvan hills and is ideally placed for chilling out or for strapping on your boots and heading out for walks. Ménessaire is a perfect base for all tastes because it has all the pleasures of the Morvan close by including; nature, walking, good food, history, water sports at Lac des Settons, cycling, kayaking and quad bikes. In addition, it is in the world-famous department of La Côte D'Or and there are hundreds of wine tastings and vinyard tours within an easy drive.
The building's history has been retained during the recent renovations with most of the original features maintained or restored. For modern expectations a fully equipped kitchen and new bathrooms have been installed tastefully to match the building's original character. Le Tandem is a big gîte at 250 sqm and includes a large games room making it ideal for groups of adults or families to come together for their vacation. The facilities are of very high quality and have been thoughtfully chosen for comfort and character. This includes secure high-speed broadband and the things that we would want if we stayed here - for example, plenty of hot water for the showers.
The 4 bedrooms are all generously sized with modern beds of 2 metres to fit our tallest guests and in the three largest bedrooms, the beds can be arranged as singles or doubles. Each bedroom has a wardrobe with hanging space, a dressing table, bedside tables and a hairdryer. The larger rooms have additional seating areas and most of the furniture is original to the region. All bed linen is included within the rental.
There are two very well appointed bathrooms upstairs, both with large showers and hand basins. One bathroom also has a bath and the other has a toilet. There is an separate second toilet upstairs and there is a third toilet downstairs. Each guest is provided with 2 towels and additional towels are provided for the basins in the toilets and in the kitchen.
Down the original oak staircase, there is a large salon which was formally the village cafe. Now it has comfortable seating and a bluetooth enabled music system for sitting together around the large, original fireplace that houses a log burner. Guests can use this log burner and a supply of logs is included in the rental with more available by arrangement.
Next door is the large open-plan kitchen-dining room which is fully equipped for guests to prepare and eat meals together. This includes: electric oven, induction hob, extractor, fridge/freezer, kettle, Senseo coffee machine, filter coffee machine, microwave and all the necessary tools for cooking and serving. There is also a television with built in dvd player in the kitchen which can receive english and french channels.
The separate games room is the former dancehall for the Ménessaire villagers and is now a great place for the kids to get together. It contains a pool table, table football, a games table, bluetooth music system and a seating area for watching tv (also english and french channels), watching dvds or playing on the x-box. There are plenty of games, books, cds, dvds and infomation about the area on the bookcases in the games room.
The final room is for storing jackets and walking boots and it leads to the back garden of the house. This garden has a seating area with a table, chairs and parasols and it is securely fenced making it ideal for a dog. A barbecue is available along with some outdoor games. The front garden has space for 2 cars to park and there is plenty of additional space next to the house for more cars. The front garden is also our favourite place to sit with a drink and to watch the world go by at the pace of the Morvan.
