The Old Smiddy is a former Blacksmiths that forms part of a 165 year old building located in the beautiful village of Crossford, a mile west of Dunfermline and just 18 miles from Edinburgh city centre and under 30 minutes from Edinburgh Airport
We have thoughtfully refurbished the workshop area to create a unique self catering space which has been completed to very high standard.
The accommodation has it's own entrance and one private, off road, parking space.
Totally renovated in November 2017, The Old Smiddy is a self catering apartment which has been well laid out for ease of use and guest comfort.
The property has an open plan lounge with a kitchen area that houses an electric fan oven, electric hob, fridge and microwave, as well as everything else you would expect to find in a kitchen. The lounge has ample comfortable seating and a dining table. There is a T.V with free view and free WiFi is available throughout. A single chair bed is available upon request for one person use. This bed is very comfortable, however due to the width it is more suitable for a small adult or child.
The peaceful, cosy bedroom, located to the rear of the property, has a very comfortable double bed with an orthopaedic mattress, wardrobe and drawers to provide storage space for guests. Off the bedroom is a private, sheltered, secluded patio area equipped with a table and chairs where guests can enjoy dining al fresco or to sit out and enjoy a morning coffee before heading out to explore the area.
The En-Suite has a generous 1100mm x 800mm shower enclosure with a Mira shower, heated towel rail and shaver point.
Directly across from the cottage guests will find the Adamson, our very friendly local bar and restaurant (it is literally 64 steps to the bar but possibly quite a few more on the return journey!!!). 150 yards away you will find a Co-Op grocery store. Next door to it is the village chip shop which we highly recommend you try. There is also a post office, chemist, hairdressers and a beauty salon. 5 minutes walk along the main street you will find the excellent Dunfermline Golf Club 18 hole course.
The Home of Golf, St Andrews is just over an hour away and the world famous courses at Gleneagles, Carnoustie, Dalmahoy and Muirfield are all within easy reach.
Transport to and from all of these golf courses may be available. If you require this facility, please contact us to discuss this as early as possible prior to your arrival.
There are numerous beautiful country and coastal walks within 10 minutes of the cottage, suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Although just 18 miles away from the centre of Edinburgh, Crossford is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is within a 5 minute drive to the beach at the beautiful coastal village of Limekilns.
Scotland's old capital city, Dunfermline is a few minutes drive away, or 15 minutes on foot, where you will find plenty cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. You can also visit the historical ruins of Dunfermline Palace and Abbey, where many Scottish Kings and Queens are buried, including Robert The Bruce, the victor at The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. King Malcolm's sainted Queen, Margaret, has her shrine in the Abbey. St Margaret is Scotland's only female saint. Andrew Carnegie, the man who gave away $350 million of his fortune, was born in Dunfermline in 1835. Visit his humble birthplace and memorial hall to discover his story. Whilst in Dunfermline a visit to Pittencrief Park is a must.
The beautiful historic villages of Charleston and Culross (pronounced Kooris) are a short drive away and the picturesque, famous Fife East Neuk fishing villages are within easy reach.
