The loft was a good size but unfortunately not very clean , not we'll maintained , needs deep clean , decorating and maintaining, as really Stay I area often and not up there standard to the price point charged out of season !! Positives host Communicated well , great setting and location sorry I could not give a good review as has great potential !!!
We had a great 5 days in the Hayloft with 5 children between us.....Richard and Marieke were very accommodating and the children had an absolute ball......safe environment for them to be "children" and explore. The gardens were beautiful and the pool a welcome addition. Good situate as near to most of the tourist attractions. The Hayloft is "rustic" but very comfortable and we all had such a great time we hope to return in 2016.
We have visited many places over the years but neither my wife, kids, or I can recall a more beautiful and peaceful place than Ashton farm. We stayed in the Hayloft, one of the 2 properties on site and instantly felt at home in its atmospheric and homely style. Richard and Marieke were very welcoming. We can't wait to return.
Courage cottage is an outstanding destination. Large windows create a bright and beautiful living space. All amenities listed in the property description were available and functional. The farm shop in Martinstown and Tesco in Dorchester took care of all our shopping needs (both are a short drive away). Very friendly owners.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Courage Cottage. We took our 2 children (aged 7mth and 2 & 1/2 yrs). The kitchen was well equipped. the whole cottage was light and airy. There is a covered passageway out of the back door and this was perfect for drying washing in all weathers. The Main bedroom had plenty of room for a travel cot. Our toddler loved the spiral staircase to the second bedroom and there was plenty of room for running around outside. The cottage was only 5 minutes from Dorchester with a very easy to find Tesco supermarket. Maiden Castle is worth a visit and is walkable from the cottage (our toddler walked all the way including "up the mountain" as she called it). There was plenty to do in the area to fill our week long holiday.
I'm rather late in submitting this review. It's currently August 2012 - we stayed at the Hayloft over Christmas 2011. I found myself thinking of our stay again and thought I would finally submit a review after never quite getting round to it for months! The owners, Richard and Marieke, really made us feel at home, setting up a Christmas tree for us and giving us some wine. It's a quiet retreat and a thoughtfully restored spacious area to live in for a little while. It was formerly an artist's studio, and there is an unfussy calmness to the place, with the wooden floors, solid furniture and the light from the roof windows. Everything had been thought of for us, such as a few food extras on top of the usual basics. There were some fresh flowers from the garden too. We also enjoyed wandering in the grounds and up to see the site of Maiden Castle, an Iron Age fort which also has a Roman history, only a few minutes walk away. The owners' home is fairly close to the barn, but this wasn't a problem at all - we felt relaxed and had plenty of privacy. We will hopefully be back soon! Vic and Thad.
This quiet valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is located between Dorchester and Weymouth and therefore within easy reach of shops, restaurants museums and the numerous seaside activities available in and around Weymouth. The Abbotsbury Swannery and gardens are within easy reach as are many footpaths leading to the coast as well as the many remote beaches reached situated along the famous Jurassic Coastline which is a World Heritage Site. The properties are in the old farmyard and reached down a private road and therefore well away from traffic.
Golf: Several Golf courses within a few miles in stunning scenery
