Very private 1 bedroom waterfront cottage. Nestled amongst ancient trees.
About Doug Bams
Doug and Troy are semi retired, living the dream on this beautiful waterfront property. We have lived in the Comox Valley since 1984, raised three children here and been involved in several business ventures. We are avid skiers, love to travel, and we spend lots of time on the water. Every season here in the Comox Valley brings new adventures - would truly not want to live any other place.
Doug Bams purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Doug Bams chose Fanny Bay
We bought this property because there is nothing like it anywhere else in the Comox Valley, From its unique setting on the end of a point, facing due west even though we are on the eastern side of Vancouver Island. This area was the summer home for K'omox first nations for thousands of years, there are signs still of their times here such as the middens all along the beach. The trees on the property are ancient, hundreds of years old, something you rarely find left on property anymore and they tend to harbor a lot of wildlife. We are also on one of the few walk on beaches found in the valley, most are boulders or cliff top which makes access more difficult. The main home is truly unique - I describe it as a beach cabin on steroids. We are just finishing a major renovation and moved back into it in January, after spending half a year in the cottage.
What makes this Cottage unique
Swimmable walk on beach. Quiet - away from highway noise and light pollution. Private - at end of dead end road and property beside us is a park. Close to so many adventure options like skiing, hiking, diving and boating. Sitting by the bay as the sun goes down, listening to the birds and sea lions, with a glass of ________ in ones hand, it needs to be experienced. The cottage is a unique place to come to get away from the stresses of life, unwind and get back to nature, in all its beauty. Whether it is skiing, exploring, biking or swimming - every day at the bay is a great day.

Had a fabulous time at the quaint cottage, with beautiful sunset in the Fanny Bay which is famous for its oysters.
A truly wonderful seafront retreat.
It’s been a privilege to spend time in one of the most beautiful spots on the Vancouver Island coast. Doug and Troy have prepared the cottage beautifully and they both made us feel very welcome. All I can say is, if you want to experience living in a beautiful, unspoiled, away-from-it-all, stunning location right on the sea shore then you really should rent this place. We made some really special memories here and I think I’ve found my new favourite place in the world. And there’s a pub a short walk away! Just Lovely!

Five Star Hosts Five Star Retreat
This was a very special get away for myself and husband. It was made all the more special with our beautiful accommodation and setting in Fanny Bay.
Such a warm welcome from booking to our departure by Doug and Troy.
So much to take in and enjoy from leisurely walks on the steps away beach, to the calm and restorative forest pathways.
Next time from Calgary we now know flying to Comox is so much closer than Nanaimo and to check the dates of the Artists Studio Tours!
We will be back!

Excellent Long Weekend Get Away
Great location. Friendly, helpful hosts, easy checkin. Very relaxing stay. Nice beach to explore, especially at low tide. Close to Denman ferry. Would love to come back.
Everything is just as described and even better in real life. A window for every view and stocked with everything you need. Beautiful sunset watching, kayaking on the bay and lots to do within close range.
Ships Point in the Comox Valley is a year round destination for those who love nature and the great outdoors. There are many kilometers of hiking and biking trails in the area, and a 160 hectare conservation area just down the beach from us for viewing wildlife. You will likely see herons, ducks, eagles and may more species. The waters in Fanny Bay are ideal for swimming in the summer and well protected for kayaking and canoeing. You may well be joined by a sea lion or two as they also make this area home for most of the year.In the fall fisherman work the beaches in the area for returning salmon. Nearby in Deep Bay is a large marina with restaurant and moorage, and fishing charters and sightseeing tours are available there. There is also the Vancouver Island Marine Research facility here which is a must visit. In just over half an hour you can be on Mt Washington for skiing and snowboarding in winter, or biking and hiking on the many kilometers of roads and trails. The ferries for Denman and Hornby island leave just five minutes away and are well worth a visit. Many artists call these islands home. On Hornby island there are several wineries, a meadery and a distiller.
There are great diving opportunities in the area and the local waters are famous for diving with wolf eels, sea lions, and the six gill sharks off of Hornby Island. Killer whales and the Pacific white-sided dolphin also make regular forays through the area.
