Guestbook comments from the manager

We have rented this home in Captiva twice now, once in January 2017 and once in May 2017. We had a larger group of 12 people in January and a smaller group in May.

It is an excellent value for the amount of space (never felt crowded), for the amenities (ping-pong, pool table, heated pool and hot tub on ground floor, roof top deck and a second hot tub, outdoor gas grill with table for six with umbrella, beach umbrellas, chairs and a beach cart, extra refrigerator and freezer downstairs, washer and dryer), and for the proximity within walking distance to the beach and multiple restaurants.

The elevator was appreciated especially by the elderly in our group. It is a fun house for little kids with lots of play space and for young adults and teenagers. We rented a golf cart in January, but ended up mostly walking everywhere. We only had on small car in January and made one trip for groceries, and then added some odds and ends at the island store.

Favorite aspects: quiet residential neighborhood, but close to everything, walking everywhere (beach, restaurants, stores, church, up and down the island for exercise), rooftop pizza (carry out) and drinks one evening, mornings and evenings on the screened-in lanai overlooking the pool.

We are experienced home renters in Florida as our family has rented homes in multiple locations in Florida including: Lido Key, Siesta Key, Longboat Key x 3 and now Captiva x 2. We expect to return here and are keeping an eye on the calendar.

Clean, convenient, great pool and lanai

  • 5 of 5

This rambling 5 BR house was perfect for our family reunion trip to Captiva, given 6 adults and 4 children spread between the 3 floors of this home. The lanai with large pool and hot tub were wonderful, with lots of pool toys and floating devices provided. Kitchen was small but very well stocked. Appreciated the cleanliness of the house, and all the pool/beach towels and other linens provided. Quick, 5-minute walk to beach access and 10-minute walk to get groceries (and excellent fresh fish/seafood from associated market Tuesday-Thursday).

Feb/March two week stay. Nice, convenient large home.

  • 4 of 5

Plenty of room for our large multi-family group. House design a little unusual but very accommodating. Convenient to restaurants, library, beach. Second week (1st week in March) got a little chilly at times and occasional red tide cough but would recommend the home.

perfect location

  • 5 of 5

House was as advertised, clean , spacious. Porch was our hangout, pool was perfect temperature. Upstairs deck beautiful in the evening. Bedrooms downstairs less desirable than upstairs. One upstairs bedroom only accessible through another or by elevator, but workable. Just a few blocks to beach and main drag of captiva town.

Amazing place with A LOT of space - can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

This house had a lot of space, I would highly recommend it for family vacations! The house is so spacious everyone will feel like they have their own space to relax and enjoy doing their own thing, when needed. All the bedrooms have their own bathroom and TV, which makes it super convenient for traveling with kids. I also loved how large and spacious the dining area is, I think you could easily have 20 people around the 2 tables! It is convenient that the house provides a cooler on wheels and wagon and chairs so you can tote everything to the beach in 1 easy trip. It also has a refrigerator at the garage level which made it easy to stock the cooler. Captiva is a magical place, once you go, I'm hard pressed to believe you would choose anywhere else in Florida to vacation. It has many good places to eat, but all are casual dining. My favorite part about staying on Captiva is that you can walk to do everything, we drove the car to get there and didn't get back in it until we had to drive back to the airport.

The potential was great.... it is a good location with lots of amenities. Sadly the reality did not meet the potential. First, the neighbor was extremely rude and expected COMPLETE silence. We were a family vacationing together (ages 22 - 84), we were not there to 'party'. But even when just talking on the rooftop deck, he would scream at us from his home.

Second, so many things did not work properly- the pool and hot tub were not heated for 6 of the 7 days we were there. The dishwasher NEVER worked. One toilet (on the main floor) did not work. There was sewage backup in the lower floor shower. There was a leak under the kitchen sink. There was a leak in the first floor that made a large pool of water in the game area. And even though we talked to the management company about these issues, they were not resolved. And the last thing you want to deal with on your vacation is stress from so many problems.

The pictures of the home are also misleading. It is much more worn that it appears. It is also an odd set up as you have to walk through one bedroom to get to another on the upper floor. And the 2 bedrooms on the main floor were not great based on the price of this rental.

As much as we all love Captiva, this home will not be one that we visit again.

Owner's Response: We are disheartened to hear your disappointment with this wonderful home and we apologize for any inconveniences you encountered during your stay. We have hosted many guests who have enjoyed an entirely different experience in this home. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, there were issues-- all of which were immediately addressed in an effort to reach a prompt resolution. We understand nobody wants to deal with this on a vacation and please know it was not for a lack of effort on our part, nor reflective or indicative of the home. For a neighbor to expect complete silence, obviously, seems unreasonable. Should anyone experience unreasonable requests please report it to our office so we have an opportunity to address it. As you are aware, we had three separate plumbers and a septic company out to resolve the plumbing issues. One eventually discovered that a flushed t-shirt was the source of the toilet/septic/leak in game room issues. And in true Murphy’s Law form, we also could not have expected that the dishwasher and one of the two hot tubs go on the fritz. We were informed the dishwasher had been resolved the day it was reported and didn't hear any differently. As you know, the entire pool heater had to be replaced and although it was remedied prior to your departure, we understand this is no consolation for the missed days of use. Unfortunately, sometimes(rarely), a large number of items can go wrong simultaneously at a home. We realize it made for an unpleasant experience. It was for these reasons that a significant part of your rental price was refunded to you. It is our sincere wish that every Kingfisher guest has a wonderfully pleasant stay. Each of the mentioned maintenance issues has been fully rectified and it is our hope that your partial refund is acknowledged as a demonstration of our good faith and apologies for the unusual circumstances you encountered. Regarding the layout, we have a fantastic 360-degree interactive walk through of the home taken that is in additional links on VRBO and our website. This should assist in realizing that this home is an extraordinarily special part of Captiva, not indicative of this review, that people should not miss!

family time

  • 5 of 5

We had a fun, relaxing family time at this beautiful and comfortable home. Easy walk to the beach where we took beach chairs, towels, an umbrella, and a wagon for easy travel that the owners provided. The pool was nice, had shade during some of the day, and there were some rafts for us to float on. Loved the roof top! We had a glass of wine one night as we viewed a full harvest moon and even sat in the hot tub under the stars. Walked to Mucky Duck for sunsets and dinner. Ate at Key Lime Bistro, and had excellent food at the Green Flash, which is just across the street. Comfortable beds and fantastic amenities. Love this home! Can't wait to come back.
