About Filipe Rodrigues

I´m an architect working and living in Lisbon. I love Lisbon!

Filipe Rodrigues purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Filipe Rodrigues chose Lisbon City

This apartment use to be where I live when I was studing architecture. After this, the apartment was my architecture studio. Now I share it with people that want to meet Lisbon just as it is. In the neighborhood of Graça you can have the real feeling of Lisbon, not only because of the place it self but also because of the people.

What makes this apartment unique

Taste of Lisbon in Graça: views, local attractions, people and walking distance to main attractions of Lisbon. If you come with children and want to have a break in Lisbon there is a friendly neighbour (M. Inês) that can take care of them just as she does with her grand children.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spacious, comfortable, beautifully designed apartment with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was a pleasure -- fabulous views from the indoor terrace and bedroom, a well appointed bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. The layout was artistically designed, plenty of light. The location was great, was not touristy, felt like we were living there, not just visiting. The apartment was conveniently located, close to markets, restaurants, metro, and tram. A short metro ride from just about everything.

Filipe, the owner, could not have been warmer or more welcoming. (And the cleaning woman who met us at the apartment was sweet and helpful). Filipe oriented us to the neighborhood and gave us wonderful suggestions about things to see and do. Although the weather was often rainy and chilly (uncharacteristic of Lisbon for April), we still managed to have a good time. Some of the highlights: The Gulbenkian Museum, the Bernardo Collection at the modern museum of the Centro Culturel, a day trip to Sintra by train (including a visit to the Palaccio Pena), a ride on Tram 28 all over the city, and buying "natas" at the Pastel de Belem (the bakery best known for these wonderful, custard-filled pastries), a visit to the Denegro Chocolate Store in Rato. (These chocolates are made there in the store and the flavors and fillings are like nothing you will taste anywhere else), and going to the Clube de Fado to hear Fado music-- unique to Portugal and not to be missed. Taxis are cheap and easy to get everywhere, and the metro is easy as well.

Filipe was kind enough to arrange a cab to take us from the apartment to the airport at the end of our stay. He went above and beyond to make us feel at home and taken care of. It was a pleasure to meet Filipe as much as it was a pleasure to visit Lisbon.

Beautiful apartment & excellent location: would stay again!

  • 4 of 5

The listing description was accurate and we were pleased with the property and location- we would recommend it to friends and family. If we visit Lisbon again we would stay in this apartment again. Although we did not meet the owner he was easy to contact and very helpful over the phone.

The apartment is on a quiet road near excellent transport links to the city centre, such as a taxi rank (it cost approximately 5 euros to reach Baixa!) and 28 tram stop. There are also a variety of restaurants, bakeries and shops at the end of the road where we bought groceries.

The apartment itself is beautifully decorated, furnished and lit. It also felt very private and safe, with secure windows and doors. It has modern amenities and was spotlessly clean. The TV and wifi worked well. There are incredible views of Lisbon, both from the apartment's large back window, and from the street.

The only minor issues were that there was no way to attach the shower head to the wall in the bathroom. Also, noise from the shared stairwell travelled far at night, which may be disturbing to people sleeping on the sofa bed.

Great Lisbon experience

  • 5 of 5

Filipe was a wonderful host -- very helpful. His flat in Graca is a perfect place; stylish and spacious, with a spectacular view, and very comfortable. The neighbourhood is slightly off the beaten track but close to tram 28 and with good local stores. Great miradors minutes away. I would recommend this flat to anyone and hope to return soon.

Spacious, but lacking

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I spent 5 nights in Lisbon, at Felipe's apartment. The apartment is quite spacious and clean.

I am very confused about past reviews that claimed that most of Lisbon's highlights were within walking from this apartment. We are accomplished travelers who walk 6-10 miles per day while investigating a city and found that nearly none of the main attractions were within walking from the apartment. There are a few nice eateries at the top of the road, a bit over 1/2 mile away. Those are easy enough to get to. Other that that, the tram or a taxi is a must. Thankfully, Uber is available. Tram 28 which goes down into the center of town is a hot spot for pick-pockets. It's so crowded that you stand most or all of the ride. Taking a taxi back cost less than the tram and brought us to the front door rather than 1/2 mile away. Most sights were 20+ minutes away by car.

Although it is listed that there is a washer and dryer, the machine is only a washer. If you are traveling light, being able to wash and dry in a timely fashion is important.

Someone said the bed was very comfortable. The bed was very hard and quite lumpy. Even if you prefer a firm mattress, it shouldn't be lumpy. Running my hand over the top of the mattress, I could feel lumps, and trying to sleep, they would actually poke me and wake me. The last night, I slept on the couch. I should have done that sooner, it was much more comfortable.

I was thinking that the apartment would be more artistically decorated. I love the kitchen table. Very nice with the maps and pictures on top. Tilework in kitchen, very colorful. But there isn't a single picture on any of the walls. It echos inside.

It was unusual that the week we were there that it should be so cold and rainy, but the apartment doesn't have a central heating system. There are electric heaters, space heaters. We ran all of them 24 hours a day and yet the apartment never really warmed up. The high ceilings don't allow for the lower living spaces to become warmed, in spite of the ceiling fans. We wore jackets and covered ourselves with blankets. There is also no A/C, but there are windows both front and back and I would think that it would have a good air flow in the summer.

Our favorite neighborhood eatery? Matas Snack Bar. The grilled Dorado and Bass as well as any octopus dish... To die for!

We needed a 3:15am taxi to the airport on leaving day. Felipe was great and arranged that for us. Thanks, Felipe!

Owner's Response: Hello Mary, I hope this note finds you and your husband well. Glad to know you found the apartment spacious and clean! There are many attractions in Lisbon. The apartment is located in Graça, just in the centre of the city. within a 2 km (1.3miles) radius (which is a max. of 25min walking) of S. Jorge Castle, Alfama neighborhood (the oldest neighborhood in Lisbon), National Pantheon, Feira da Ladra, Lisbon Main Cathedral, Praça do Comércio, Pombaline Lower Town and even Chiado neighbourhood. In fact there is only a washing machine (that centrifuges). The listing were you saw the apartment shouldn't mention a dryer. Regarding the bed, i'm sorry that you have not had a good experience, but I previously received some good reviews from other customers. It is within the European standard. The apartment has the electric and space heaters that you mentioned. Perhaps you turned off unintentionally some of the heaters while you were out. You should feel warm and comfortable inside! Glad to know the taxi I asked for you was there so soon to take you to the airport! Kind regards from Lisbon! Filipe

Great place in Lisbon

  • 5 of 5

We visited Lisbon Nov 20 through 28 this year and stayed at Filipe’s place that happens to be near the top of the hill that makes up the Graca neighborhood. To be to the point, we had a great time. Working with Filipe was extremely easy, he was very easy to contact using email. Though we didn’t actually meet him, the lady he uses to greet visitors to his rental was also extremely nice (we called her Mama), so much so, we went out with her for breakfast and even had her over for dinner one night.

Philip's flat consisted of a nice bedroom and very comfy bed, a bathroom complete with a bathtub, a very large, 2-room living room with comfy futon-couches, a kitchen with modern appliances and a large dining table, and best of all, a beautify breakfast nook with a fabulous view looking over red-tiled city. It was the perfect place to crash after long days of exploring. And what a location. A short walk away were some really great restaurants. One in particular, Churrasco da Graca, was such a delight we must have eaten there at least 4 times and had take-out at least a couple of nights. And the famous Tram 28 was also just a few steps away from our location. But to be honest, everything was within walking distance including Baixa and Alfama.

We couldn’t have asked for more. Wonderfully polite and helpful hosts, the best location in all of Lisbon, close to Trams and the Metro, grocery stores, restaurants, and high above the city for the views. We highly recommend this place. We will be back for sure.

Fantastic place to stay , perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Felipe's flat for 6 nights in Oct and enjoyed everything about it . It was as described , clean , very large and bright with many windows and very quiet . It is absolutely beautiful and shows a lot of taste .Felipe took the time to meet us when we arrived which we very much appreciated, we also met Inez who is lovely and warm. Felipe followed up with us to next day to confirm all was good, was available for any other questions and he also made arrangements for a return taxi to the airport for an early morning flight, saving us from some worry about getting a cab at 5.45 a.m. The Graca location is perfect if you want to have a calm environment . There are a number of very good restaurants right in the area as well as bakeries and a grocery store nearby . The metro and tram are also closeby. We really enjoyed being able to have breakfast in the sunroom at the back and that view cannot be beat day or night . Super location , service and amenities. Well worth the price.
