About Timothy Pearl
We're Tim & Laura Pearl. We grew up in Plattsburgh, NY, were high school sweethearts and have been married for 35 years. We have raised 5 sons and currently have 7 grandchildren. Tim: I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1980, then spent 8 years in the Navy as a Naval Aviator flying A-7's and F/A-18's. I am now a commercial airline pilot for Delta Air Lines and have been for 28 years. I grew up right up the road on Lake Champlain and love the idea of introducing you to this magical area. Laura: I graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1980. I spent the majority of our married years raising our 5 sons. When our youngest son started high school, I began a lifelong dream to write a novel. In 2012, I had my first young adult novel, "Finding Grace" published by Bezalel Books. I then wrote another YA novel, "Erin's Ring", which was published in 2014. We now spend most of our time travelling to visit our 5 sons and 7 grandchildren.

Why Timothy Pearl chose Peru
This area is our hometown. We grew up here and have wonderful memories. We always thought it was the perfect place to grow up; with the lake right here, the mountains close by, a small town feel, with a big city (Montreal) very close as well. We've been living away from here for awhile, but can't keep ourselves away too long. We are thrilled to be able to share our home and this area with you. We know you'll love it as much as we do.
What makes this House unique
Although the house is a lovely, renovated colonial, the thing that made us fall in love with it was the view of the lake, the islands, and the mountains of Vermont in the background. Growing up on the lake makes you a little spoiled. I've always wanted to get back. I could sit and stare for hours at the beautiful scenery right out our back yard.

Great place for a get away.
I took my family there on a week-long vacation, and it was great. The home was well furnished and the location was superb. Tim was always ready to answer any questions we had. I would recommend it to my friends and family.
We had a great time staying at Oyster Haven. The house was plenty big for the 11 people we had staying there. The deck and back yard were huge, which was perfect for the kids. We really enjoyed using the paddles boards, kayaks, and canoes. The only draw back was that the house is on a very busy road so there was nowhere for the kids to ride their bikes. But overall, our stay was great.
Great place for group vacation
Oyster Haven is a great location for family and friends to gather for a lakeside vacation. Plenty of room and activities for everyone. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Plattsburgh area.
Beautiful Relaxing Gorgoeus Home!
We had the best vacation! This was our second year renting from the Pearles. They truly have thought through the process of renting and have it down to a science! All the little details created a seamless transition into a vacation from everyday life! Oyster Haven is beautifully decorated- you can tell someone took a lot of time to create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere while keeping families in mind. It’s not a run of the mill rental. The bedding and towels are top of the line and meticulous. The beds are very comfortable- we all slept soundly! The Pearles thought of everything- there was coffee upon our arrival and some firewood for our fires at night. There are even placards indicating how to wash certain kitchen items- which now that we have older children helping out in the kitchen- this was extremely useful! The property is cared for each week and our children played frisbee and tag on the lush lawn barefoot and carefree! The Pearles also thought of everything we may need to enjoy the water. There were plenty of life jackets, kayaks and paddle boards for us all to be out together enjoying the lake. Thank you for a great vacation. Can’t wait until next year!
It is such a pleasure to share our home with family groups that enjoy it so much and take care of it so well!! We also look forward to having you back next year!
Oyster Haven is a true Adirondack Oasis
This is a great home to host large families or gatherings. The backyard with the view and direct access to Lake Champlain is absolutely stunning. The location is perfect as it’s close to all sorts of outdoor adventures (hiking, cliff jumping, skiing, Montreal, Lake Placid, Burlington VT). The provided paddle boards, kayaks & canoes were used a lot to enjoy Lake Champlain. The home was very clean and comfortable. The owner’s communication was outstanding from when I booked our stay back in January up to and during our stay in July. He was very quick to respond to any questions that arose during our stay. All my extended family visiting from Michigan (ages 5-68) greatly enjoyed their time at Oyster Haven.
Thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay!
Perfect is the best way to describe this property! Our entire family of 11 was able to spend a week at Oyster Haven; and without a doubt, each family member came away absolutely loving our time together at this location. The home is perfect for groups of all ages and we were impressed with the solid structure of the home. You could be in the main room watching a movie and relaxing on the sprawling leather sectional while another group was in the kitchen area playing a lively game and neither group could hear the other. There was ample room in the kitchen area for all of us to enjoy meals together, as well as, a large deck and patio/fire pit area. The home is exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and spacious. The location is private and the swimming is great. Watching the sunrise from the deck or the dock was simply beautiful. We checked this place out carefully before renting and we came away so pleased that Oyster Haven truly lived up to all of the comments we carefully read and what was presented in the photos and description provided by Tim and Laura. We came away with a lifetime of special memories and will always remember our time there. We would love to come back one day. Thank you Tim and Laura for sharing your home.
Enjoy a dream vacation at possibly the most idyllic spot anyone could ever imagine! Oyster Haven is a renovated circa 1830 farmhouse that combines vintage charm with all the modern conveniences, including a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen with two ovens and an enormous central island perfect for large family gatherings.
Located on the shore of Lake Champlain, this immaculate and comfortable vacation home boasts an acre and a half of property that includes a deck, a large patio with a fire pit, and a grassy yard that stretches down to a private beach. With 250 feet of lake frontage, a dock, three kayaks, a canoe, a stand-up paddle board, and a mooring for those who wish to bring or rent a motorboat or sailboat, guests can find a whole host of outdoor activities without ever leaving the back yard.
This property is located right next door to the Valcour Conference Center, which is an events venue specializing in wedding receptions, business conventions, reunions, and much more. Scenic Au Sable Chasm is just a couple of miles down the road from the house. Forty minutes to the southwest is beautiful Lake Placid, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics and Whiteface Mountain, which boasts the best skiing east of the Rocky Mountains. For big city flavor, Montreal is just an hour to the north.
Oyster Haven is just a few miles from downtown Plattsburgh, NY, so there are plenty of restaurants, movie theaters, and shopping centers right nearby. Just a hop, skip, and jump away you’ll find Valcour Brewing Company, located in the Old Stone Barracks (a Civil War-era building on the grounds of what was once Plattsburgh Air Force Base), a great place to soak up local history and enjoy locally brewed beer. There are several winery tours in the area as well, along with museums showcasing the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. (Oyster Haven enjoys a spectacular view of Valcour Island and overlooks the site of the famous Revolutionary Battle of Valcour.)
You’d be hard-pressed to find a vacation home that offers so many amenities for the comfort of its guests, as well as breathtaking lake and mountain views, countless outdoor activities (swimming, boating, fishing, and more!), and plenty of tourist attractions close by. When you’re planning your next vacation, think about spending it at Oyster Haven!
