About Janet Trogdon

We have always loved visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake as our get away place from our busy work schedules. Its just an hour's drive from home, but it feels like we are in a different world!

Our favourite things to do in town is to visit the wineries and breweries that are on the bike trails. Then maybe take a stroll to Ryerson park and watch the sunset over Toronto!

Why Janet Trogdon chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

When we first came to Niagara-on-the-Lake we fell in love with the historic area and the waterfront that is in and around Queen St. But the more often we visited the more we explored and found all these wonderful neighborhoods! Our goal was to purchase a home that offered all the conveniences of a modern build but had the charm of Niagara-on-the-Lake. We soon discovered that there are many different and just as nice "charm" in areas that are still an easy walk or bike to Queen St.

The area that spoke to us most is an historic area that has roots dating back to late 18th century but wasn't developed until the founders of the Chautauqua, NY decided to build their summer residences here. Our vacation home is very close to Ryerson Park that has access to the water and the best part of our location is that we back on to a National Conservation area. The first morning that I saw the mist rise from the meadow behind us, I knew we had made the right decision.

We've had several seasons of glorious sunsets and love to ride our bikes. We also have discovered several great restaurants that are within a 5 to 10 minute stroll. The bike path that connects to the winery trail is just at the end of the street!

What makes this cottage unique

Location Location Location!! What else can I say??

For the first time visitors to Niagara-on-the-Lake the charm of Queen St is so attractive and we are about a 5 minute drive or a 1/2 hour walk to the shops, theater and restaurants. However Niagara-on-the-Lake has so much more to offer. This region is full of wineries, craft breweries, parks, trails, antique stores, farm stands, and so much more. The best way to explore the region is on a bike, but a car is nice if you plan to purchase quantities of wine, beer or that perfect garden gnome!

We are located really close to the waterfront which has access to Ryerson Park. This is where you look west over lake Ontario and see the Toronto Skyline! Or the big ships coming and going through the Welland Canal.

My favorite thing though is just to kick back and relax in our back yard. For the early riser, the morning mist over the meadow is magical with birds singing and sometimes deer and wild turkeys out looking for breakfast. There is a wire fence that separates us from the Conservation Area so it keeps the back yard secure but doesn't obstruct the view. Since our back porch faces west we get the sun setting right in our meadow view. Any season offers the spectacular and every changing display and golds, reds, yellows and hues of purple as the sun slips down. This is the spot I like best to sit with my friends and family to enjoy a great glass of wine!

Restful, peaceful vacation spot

  • 4 of 5

We had a restful time and enjoyed our stay. We needed a nice cottage that was clean since we both have allergies, and we were very satisfied with La Vignette. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. We have a little yorkie and he was comfortable there and never made a mess. The kitchen was well-stocked with all the tools we required to cook nice meals, including a French press to make our morning coffee. The bed was amazingly comfortable and we slept the best there. It was quiet and we felt safe walking our dog around the neighbourhood. The backyard looks beautiful but it was overgrown with trees and therefore too many spiders, so we did not spend time out in the back yard. The furniture outside had cobwebs on it and didn't feel clean enough for us to sit on. Perhaps muskoka chairs would be a better option.

We used the winery tastings we were given and highly recommend Coyotes Run, as they are dog friendly and have wonderful wine! We also rented zoom bikes and escoot scooters and had a blast!! It was a great getaway and we would definitely return!!

Thank you for the excellent service and lovely stay!

Our weekend getaway (girls' wine tour) was made extra special with this magnificent property which is beautifully appointed and situated on a quite street with A STUNNING view of the lake and backyard that is like a garden from an old English novel. You simply cant go wrong booking here. I can't wait to go back.
