This house exceeded our expectations. My experiences with water pressure in the UK have not been great. It was perfect in this house. Beds were all comfortable and the 4 of use had plenty of room. Kitchen was perfect for all our needs and the ice packs in the freezer were a nice touch as we picnicked a lot. I didn't realize there wasn't a dryer and coming from America we packed light. Took jeans 2-3 days to dry on the rack provided, but not that big an issue. Owner gets back to questions in minutes. Neighbors were helpful and friendly, including local cats. Beer selection at pubs and restaurants was good. We ate at Royal Oak (Just ok), Ollies (Very good) and High Street Fisheries (Exceptional Fish and Chips). We didn't have time to go on any of the local walks and would love to come back. This location was central to our outings to York and Whitby. Black Sheep Brewery a must, but you should book a table.

Cosy cottage with excellent location for the Dales

  • 4 of 5

Ideal for two couples or small family. Quiet location, just outside but close to Pately Bridge (10 minutes walk). Well appointed for home cooking. Also lots of good shops and restaurants nearby. Neighbours are friendly - as was everyone in the area. Good centre for visiting western Yorkshire, and hiking in the Dales and Nidderdale. Had a great time here.

Home from home stay for a family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a spacious cosy cottage with all the home from comforts you need for a relaxing holiday. There were six adults in our party and there was plenty of room for us all. Having an en- suite and a bathroom meant no bathroom queues, kitchen was equipped with everything you needed to cook anything from a snack to a full dinner. We were lucky with the weather and took advantage of the sunny back garden. We grew up in pateley bridge and it was wonderful to show our kids our favourite old haunts - Brimham Rocks, Scot gate Quarry amongst others . After all that fresh air the beds were super comfy and we all slept well. Thank you for letting us stay in your cottage.

Great location. Comfortable all seasons cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have spent many holidays in Yorkshire, meanwhile in all seasons, and Briardene has always been central to our visit. This time is no exception. Ideally situated, this cottage is clean and well maintained and is a great base to come home to after a walk or day out. or to warm ourselves in the chilly Spring evenings in front of the woodburning stove. As always we sleep really well here and when we want to stay in we have all we need in the house to make ourselves comfortable. We would definitely recommend this cottage to our friends

Briardene is not big enough for six adults. The third bedroom was really disappointing.

  • 2 of 5

Briardene is not suitable for six adults and the third bedroom is not big enough for either two single beds or a double bed. On the whole we were very disappointed.

Owner's Response: Dear valued guest, We were shocked to read your review that only gives one very negative comment and in the 10 years of owning the cottage we have never been rated so low. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. Our cottage sleeps UP TO 6 and we are very clear that the third bedroom is very tight with two beds up. It is a great single bedroom. The same problem would occur in a two bedroomed house with a sofa bed in the lounge. Cottages generally are not overly large in the area. There are larger properties eg. eg a barn conversion where the property, in particular the third bedroom may be much bigger. However in the superb location of our cottage, such a house would be much more expensive. Our guests have to make the decision as to whether to pay a higher price for a much bigger property or enjoy all our cottage has to offer despite the third bedroom being tight with two beds. Over the past 10 years we have had guests which return year after year and most can see the positive attributes of our cottage. The photos of the property are an accurate reflection of it and we are sorry that it was not to your taste on this occasion. The owners
