Stunning location, details lacking

  • 3 of 5

Overall, we had a lovely stay at the villa...I'm only being picky because of the high peak-season rate we paid. First, the house is truly unique and charming with an incredible view from nearly all the rooms and a nice terrace. We met a porter at the train station for an easy check-in, and Luca was very responsive via text message. The house didn't seem completely clean, the soap dispensers were empty, and there wasn't much toilet paper or any paper towels in the kitchen. Mattresses were comfortable but most of the pillows could use an update. Internet connection was great. And just an FYI, there's no microwave, but that probably doesn't affect most people on vacation. I just have an impatient baby whose bottles I was heating on the stove. We cooked several nights in the kitchen and found everything we needed (we also followed Luca's suggestion for a great dinner at Gianni Franzi in the main square). The entrance to the house is conveniently right on the trail to Monterosso, but be aware that the train runs literally beneath it and is very loud in the mornings.

Overall, we loved watching the sunsets from the perch above town, but at over 500USD/night, we found the details lacking.

Owner's Response: Dear Liz, your stay has been of 3 days, if you thought there were some problems and since you had both internet and an italian speaking life partner, a single message would have been enough to get rid of the lackings. But i only received suggestions requests. Welcome kits of soap, shampoo and toilet paper are always present, but this is a vacation rental and normally people buy their own things. We always try to do our best, but sometimes an inadvertence might happen. Best Luca

A Cinque Terre Dream

  • 5 of 5

This former convent has been transformed into a magnificent residence. The upper floor has 4 bedrooms although we only used two as 2 couples traveling together. The lower floor has a full kitchen, dining room and living room indoors and a wrap-around balcony from which to see all of the Vernazza harbor and some of the most beautiful sunsets while consuming Chianti and salami and cheese appetizers. Sound relaxing? It certainly is. From the property, we explored Vernazza and hiked to Corniglia. Restaurants are plentiful in Vernazza and we ate at several. (Il Grosso was our favorite)

Up to four couples or a family with kids could comfortably stay here. There are 2 bathrooms with the second actually being a shower room as well. It is smaller than the full bathroom. Also, be prepared to climb stairs to get to the front door. This is a property best used by non-handicapped persons.

The best part was the clear and timely communication from Luca, the owner. He made perfect plans for us to be met a tthe train station in Vernazza and to have our heavy bags carried to the property by porters who work out of the souvenir shop on the train platform. This was a great help to us.

In conclusion, treat yourself to the finest property in Vernazza, the finest village to stay in on theCinque Terre.

A Little piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Luca was a wonderful help to us when our train was cancelled. He had some local gentlemen to help with luggage as we climbed 109 steps to the property. The 109 steps were nothing as we enjoyed the amazing sea view. We would love stay there again if we visit Vernazza. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful, stay.

Best place of all to stay in Vernazza

  • 5 of 5

The location and home are perfect. The house is fully restored with a great view of the harbor. We arrived late and Luca (owner) arranged for us to be met at the train station. The guys at the station helped us with our bags (5 euro each). Everyone in town knows the Convent and most know Luca. Just mentioning his name gets a smile. The town can get crowed during the day, but after the last boat leaves serenity sets in. Kids are playing in the town square, locals are sitting around people watching, and everyone is just enjoying life. We ate at most of the restaurants in town. Could not get in Belforte. Reservations are required at most places. Highlights were the owner of the Blue Marlin and wine tasting up by the castle. You can't go wrong staying at the Convent. We would go back and stay at the Convent in a flash. Luca was great to work with.

The most perfect villa in Vernazza!!

  • 5 of 5

A dream come true!! This villa is spacious, comfortable and has the most amazing view imaginable! Luca, the owner, was extremely helpful from the moment we put our deposit on the villa, answering our many questions promptly. As others have mentioned, there are many stairs to climb from the town (97 to be exact) to get to Il Conventino, but quite refreshing after the many amazing meals in Cinque Terre! The train was noticeable, but in a small town you can hear the train everywhere. This villa is a true treasure and we completely loved our stay!

Location, Location, Location, Wow

  • 5 of 5

I would have to say that the view just doesn't get any better than this cute house overlooking the Vernazza harbor. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning breakfasts and evening happy hours on the balcony of Luca's home next to the church. I am sure we were the envy of all who were eating at the restaurants below on the water. The location was super convenient to anything in the village and for hiking the the Cinque Terre trails, especially the one to Monterosso. The bathrooms and and kitchen were nicely renovated. Given that there was only 1 large bathroom and a 2nd small one, and we were 3 couples, the women in our group were happy to find a mirror for makeup and outlet for blow dryers, etc in each of the bedrooms. Luca, the owner was very helpful, especially with arranging a driver and luggage transport for us.

Yes, the church bells and train were noticeable, as I would imagine they would be anywhere in town. But they ended just after midnight and didn't start until about 7:00 AM, so we just adjusted our sleeping hours around them. The only other negative was that it was fairly warm when we were there and the historical house has no A/C. If the owner could add fans to each of the bedrooms to cool things off at night, and also a more modern coffee maker, I am sure the guests would appreciate it.

Overall, we really loved our stay here and even cooked a nice pasta dinner in the modern kitchen one evening. There were tons of dishes and pots and pans to use. Vernazza is our favorite of the Cinque Terre Villages and we would definitely stay at Il Conventino again. Please note that if you stay in Vernazza anywhere, you need to be fairly fit as there are a lot of steps. And if you have heavy luggage as we did, take advantage of the luggage transport service that Luca recommended. Stay here. You won't regret it.
