It sits on a high coral cliff near the beautiful Bottom Bay beach on the south east coast of Barbados. The spacious living area can easily seat 8 people and benefits from DVD and HD TV with Multi Choice option which can also be viewed in all the bedrooms, all with surround sound. This area overlooks the patio and pool. Beyond that the glorious blues of the ocean can be seen. The villa is surrounded by a lovely garden in which to relax in private.

The story so far…by Suzanne Jane Bushby
In 1998 a friend was kind enough to pay for me to visit Barbados (eternal thanks to that friend). I remember standing on the beach looking out to sea mesmerised by the turquoise blue ocean in front of me. In that moment I made the ridiculous statement that I would love to own a house on that island. I’m not sure if it was the deep blue sky, the twinkling crystal blue water, the bright and beautiful tropical plants and flowers or the sun that had bewitched me but there was something beyond my control that made me feel that way. If you could have known my financial status at that time you would have laughed at my optimistic outburst and put it down to the heady intoxication induced by the affliction often known as ‘That holidays feeling!’
We could see a very elegant hotel on that beach and laughed as we joked that we would return there and take the best ocean front room they had for my 40th Birthday knowing that it was most unlikely…but we could dream.
In 2004 we returned to Barbados to celebrate that very occasion in that ocean view room at The Turtle Beach resort. I felt a very lucky girl.
During that stay one of the hotel staff, called Nigel, had shown us a brochure of a development planned for an area of the South East coast near to the stunningly beautiful and much photographed Bottom Bay. He told us that the houses had 2 or 3 bedrooms and some even had a pool. We admired the brochure and looked at the prices knowing, but not wanting to admit, that they were beautiful but unfortunately, out of our reach financially. With hours to spare before the plane was due to carry us back to the UK Nigel had contacted the builder and had arranged a cab to take us up there and not wanting to appear ungrateful, we went to see the sight.
Suzie Bushby purchased this villa in 2005
The best house was undoubtedly Lot 20 but that had already been sold and knowing that we couldn’t afford it anyway softened the blow but we did start to wonder if we could afford one of the smaller town houses on the development.
In February 2005 we returned to Barbados and during our stay had a serious look around the island at the various properties for sale. I was totally amazed that we could find anything at all within our budget as I always presumed that only millionaires would be able to afford a home there and we realised the homes on the development land we had previously seen (Atlantic Rising) represented excellent value for money.
I won’t bore you with the details but after that trip we decided to purchase a house on that very development. We had, as a family, accumulated a bit more money and asked to buy Lot 16 which we considered to be the nicest of the ones still available. By some ridiculous fluke the plot we wanted (No 20) was back on the market and after sending a deposit we were assured it was reserved for us. There was much yelping, dancing, clapping etc in our lounge in York that day.
The location of Sunburst is tranquil and the view through the lounge doors on a sunny day is priceless.
Guest’s comment how Sunburst feels like a home and not merely a holiday let and our managers John and Jan receive an exceptional amount of praise for their services.
Call me biased, but for me, Sunburst is special. Hopefully all our guests including those who return year after year would agree.
Having stayed in Barbados before, this was by far the best accommodation we have stayed in. I have to stress the photo's do not do it justice. We did not want for anything as Suzie had covered all bases with everything from cool boxes, beach towels and a hairdryer (with a diffuser for all those curly haired ladies). There is plenty of storage for clothes and shoes and the villa is decorated to a high standard. The pool/ garden is so peaceful and pretty and there is a strong breeze to keep you from getting too warm, perfect for an evening playing cards and drinking Banks beer.
The Villa managers were so friendly and helpful, sharing lots of information and tips about the island. We even took advantage of the chef service and had local cuisine cooked for us and then brought to the villa. Very reasonable and delicious food. For those looking to see more of Barbados, Bottom Bay is the perfect location. A car is definately required but no where is too far and you have the pleasure of seeing the 'real' island as you drive around. We would definately stay at the villa again, it halped make our stay truly memorable and my parting words...that view....
My husband, two adult children and I stayed at Sunburst the first week in October, 2013. The house is very comfortable and beautifully appointed. The furnishings are lovely and yet very functional. We particularly enjoyed the shaded porch adjacent to the pool. We ate breakfast there every morning and relaxed there in the evenings, enjoying the ocean breezes. We so enjoyed the house we had a hard time picking ourselves up to get out and see other parts of Barbados. The caretakers, Jan and John were very friendly, accommodating and helpful.
We have travelled many times to the Caribbean. Sunburst was certainly one of most relaxing and pleasant accommodations we have experienced. We highly recommend it.
If you are thinking of renting a villa in Barbados, choose Sunburst, you will not regret it. The villa is very well proportioned with 3 large bedrooms, all with their own en-suite bathrooms. Every room has plenty of cupboard space for clothes, has air conditioning, its own TV and luxurious furniture. The bedding is clean and is changed whilst you reside there (the cleaner comes, as does the pool cleaner!)
Downstairs, the kitchen has granite work surfaces and an old country-house-kitchen feel. There is a double fridge with freezer and plenty of cupboard space for when you stock up. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the crockery, pans and cutlery all have the feel of quality. No cheap short cuts taken at this property! The sofa's are immaculate and comfortable and the rooms downstairs are airy and pleasant. There is quick internet with wifi too (always a godsend in my view) plus 3 portable phones at the property.
Outside, the pool is lovely and the veranda is where you will probably spend most of your time (on the sun beds and around the table), when not exploring Barbados. A lot of thought (and probably money) has been spent planting all of the trees and shrubs in the garden and around the house, so that it feels tropical; you are not overlooked by neighbours and the ambiance is cozy and private. The views are amazing, especially from the balcony which is where the two back bedrooms back on to. I really liked the lighting which is extensive and makes the property feel very serene in the evenings, especially when the pool is lit up and you are playing cards on the veranda with a Banks Beer!
My wife and I spent 11 days at the property with our 17 month old son, plus two grandparents and because of the size of Sunburst, it didn't feel crowded at all; we didn't feel on top of each other. The location of Sunburst is great because it is only 15 mins from the airport and large super market (at Emerald City next to "6 Roads") and the beach is 2 minutes walk down the road. Bottom Bay is an idyllic, secluded beach and beautiful all day long, especially at sunset.
I have no hesitation recommending Sunburst to you if you are reading this. It is a home away from home. We will certainly be returning soon!
Needless to repeat all the other positive comments - all true.
Being there for a month we particularly enjoyed the peaceful location as well as having a good base from which to explore the island.
Best of all was having the beautiful Bottom Bay just a few seconds walk away and often all to ourselves.
Now the villa has its own modem so the internet connection is perfect.
I stayed at Sunburst with my boyfriend and another couple with their 2 young daughters. Overall I must say that the villa is fantastic and is at least as good as the pictures show. Every room is fully furnished/equiped, almost better equiped than most houses , let alone rentals. The bathrooms are all very nice and a good size, fully decorated/equiped as well. It feels very homey and is comfortable, the kind of perfect house you wish you could own.
The sun shines on the pool side until 4-ish so you can really enjoy the sunshine nearly all day long.
Only downsides I would point out are:
- location: you definitely need a car (and I would recommend getting one as there are lovely areas and restaurants around the island)
- beach (Bottom Bay and the ones within walking distance of the house) is not suitable for swimming at all - Crane is but it's a 10-15 minute drive
- Chef for the evening: we found that even compared to good restaurants on the island it was very pricey and the food wasn't sooo amazing.
We have stayed at Sunburst twice now and have just booked again for 2012. It is a stunning villa – immaculately clean and very well maintained. There has been a very high level of attention to detail in furnishing and equipping the villa – it not only feels luxurious but very much a ‘home’ not a typical holiday rental.
The owner is a pleasure to deal with, very helpful and responsive with any questions or queries. The on-site managers are also superb – we have not had any issues during our stays and, knowing the island very well from previous trips, have not needed assistance booking trips etc but that is all available if needed. It’s a real comfort knowing that help is at hand just a couple of minutes away if required. But at the same time you are left to enjoy your holiday in peace.
The location is very peaceful but with other villas - rentals and residents – in the same area, it is not isolated. Taking the same security precautions you would at home – we have always felts very safe. Unless you intend to spend all your time at the villa, a rental car is needed. The large Emerald City supermarket is about 10 minutes away – very well stocked for anything you might need. Oistins and South coast are about 25 minutes away and Holetown / West coast 45 minutes – with many excellent restaurants (highly recommend The Cliff and The Tides). The Crane resort is even closer with several restaurants (10 mins). A discovery for us this year was that the Oistins fish restaurants / vendors are open on evenings throughout the week. So you are only 20 minutes away from delicious and very reasonably priced fresh fish without the crowds of a Friday night fish fry (try Uncle George’s).
Nearby Bottom Bay is a 5 minute walk and is probably more beautiful than any picture can capture. Foul Bay just beyond Crane Beach is also a favourite. At Sunburst you are also very well positioned to drive up the East coast route to Bathsheba, Cherry Tree Hill etc. We also enjoy late afternoon walks around the villa along the cliffs.
The pool area is stunning, with shady spots if needed but plenty of sun all day if you want to lay out. All outdoor furniture is high quality – very sturdy, comfortable loungers and stylish table / chairs to eat outside.
Staying for two weeks a guest clean is included in the rental. The pool is cleaned weekly and garden well maintained.
All in all it is the perfect place to stay in our opinion.
Situated east of the windward isles Barbados is a relatively small coral stone island. Being approximately 26 miles long by 14 miles wide makes everything the island have to offer easily accessible. Sunburst is located on the south eastern coat of the island and is a short stroll from the breathtaking Bottom Bay beach, said by some to be one of the most picturesque beaches in the world. There are several other stunning beaches and bays within the immediate area including the famous beaches at The Crane and Sam Lords Castle. The airport is situated approximately 15 minutes away and the capital, Bridgetown, around 30 minutes from Sunburst.
Barbados can be any type of holiday you choose. It can be leisurely and relaxing or adventurous and exciting. Nature lovers will admire the natural beauty on the island whilst food and drink connoisseurs have the option of dinning at some of the best restaurants in the Caribbean. Sunburst is a lovingly crafted home which will appeal to all.
