Beautiful mountain views
Overall a great place to stay. We took our daughter and boyfriend for an after-Christmas holiday and it was definitely great to have 2 bathrooms. Views were fantastic and being a bit out of town was great. It was close enough to anything you wanted to do in the area; we hiked a close-by trail and then went to Cottonwood Hot Springs to relax. A few things to know about the house: The house has very high ceilings and takes an incredibly long time to heat up - more than 12 hours to reach 69 degrees. Part of the lengthy time was due to the pilot light being out on the fireplace so it wouldn't turn on, which is the intended way to heat the main living space. But, a repairman came to fix it the next day and then we had no problem staying warm. Only an issue in cold weather, obviously, but is good to know even during warmer months due to cooler Colorado nights. While there was shampoo in the showers, there was no soap so be sure to take your own. There was soap for hand-washing by the sinks. We were able to access wi-fi without any problem and accessed the TV for movies and played some of the games while there. The kitchen was well stocked and I appreciated the ability to make biscuits and gravy while there because of the pantry items. Some of the bake ware had been put away dirty so you might want to check to see if needs washing prior to using. The beds were comfortable and we utilized the extra blankets, which were very appreciated. Overall, a beautiful house with amazing views all around and we thoroughly enjoyed our days away from the normal routine.
Thank you for staying with us Beverly.
I would recommend that any guest check cleanliness when using items in the cupboards. We find that previous guests (in any of the 15 rentals in my inventory) have no problems with putting dirty dishes away....which I will never understand! I do encourage my housekeepers to keep a lookout for those kind of issues.
The fireplace in the living room is NOT the primary source of heat as you indicated. The house is heated by forced air and yes, we do turn it down in the winter months when the house is not being used. The fireplace in the living room is ambience only. The "handyman" didn't actually do anything to it. It is controlled by a thermostat as is the forced air. If the room is actually warmer than what you have the fireplace thermostat on, it, of course, will not turn on.
We really enjoyed staying at the Princeton retreat. The house is beautiful, spacious, and offers gorgeous views of the Collegiate Peaks. The kitchen is equipped with everything one might need to cook, the grill is very fast, and you can enjoy your meals indoor or on the porch.
The beds were comfortable and the entire property was very clean.
Renee, the property manager, is available and answers very fast any questions one might have.
Buena Vista is perfectly located to go hiking, climbing several 14ers, boating or just strolling. Great vacation!
Thank you for staying with us. Please keep us in mind should you have the time to return. Renee
Can’t go wrong with this house. Outstanding views and great location.
Thank you! Renee
This home was amazing! very spacious and kitchen fully equipped with all you need.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Princeton Retreat. this was a surprise 60th birthday party for my husband and our 3 adult children joined us. Having 2 full baths was a treat and plenty of places for sleeping. there are houses near by but you wouldn't really notice as they are spaced apart giving you privacy and great views of the mountains. It is also close to Buena Vista or Salida if you want to grab groceries or a bite to eat. It wasn't far from many trail heads and rafting outfitters if you are there in the summer months..
Reene was super to work with. All I can say is the cabin is as stunning as the pictures.
We thank you for a great couple of days and I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the area to enjoy the summer months or hit the ski slopes. Gables.
Thank you for staying with us. We appreciate your wonderful review and would love to have you stay with us again! Renee
Nice Interior, open floorplan, great views
Newer cabin style home in a subdivision in Buena Vista. It's on a well maintained dirt road (typical for this area) set in the praries at the base of Mt Harvard. Surrounding homes are of similar style and age. I was hoping for more excluded feel of the mountains, but the newness and anemeties of the house made up for it.
There is a front and back porch, which is very helpful since this area is a little windy and it's helpful to go to the side of the house not in the wind. We saw a deer and lots if rabbits on the property.
Kitchen was easy to use with modern oven, gas stove, and appliances. Washing machine was very loud (older model) but works. Be sure to bring your own detergent if you need to do more than 1 load.
Having internet WiFi and satellite we're nice with a big screen TV. Good for entertaining the kids when needed.
4 star since the master shower could have been cleaner and the kitchen drawers housing utensils could also have been cleaner. Otherwise, a clean and nice house.
The top bunk was a nice addition, but the top rails are not tall enough to keep a kid from rolling out. So must be used for older kids. Luckily the guest bedroom has plenty of sleeping space.
The top sockets in the bedrooms are wired to a light switch. It's a nice feature if you have lamps (this house is missing that feature). But if you don't know this (we didnt) you will have trouble charging your phones and accessories. Make sure the alarm clocks are plugged into the bottom sockets (they weren't when we arrived and had some trouble with the clocks resetting) there should be some sticker on the light switches or something to indicate this since most homes are not wired in this way in the bedrooms. Without lamps, it's harder to keep a calm lighting experience since overhead bright lighting is all that is available.
It sounds like you enjoyed your stay in Buena Vista and The Princeton Retreat. Guests often expect their vacation rental to function as their home might, but we have found that all rentals are as different as the property owner, as are each of our guests. We do try our best to generally accomodate all of those who stay with us and take any concerns under advisement. Unfortunately, I didn't receive a check out form with your comments on them. However, the property owner does monitor reviews and is happy to look into each item you have addressed. As for the crazy loud washing machine, we've had it looked at severaal times by 2 different professionals with conflicting information. We are slated to replace it soon even though it still works perfectly fine.
We are a work in progress and both the owners and myself are happy to work towards meeting the needs of all of our guests. Thank you for your feedback. Check us out the next time you return to Buena Vista!
Some of the best craft breweries in the state are found in this area such as Eddyline and Elevation, as well as a craft whiskey distillery, The Deerhammer. If this doesn't attact you, you can participate in geocaching as well any number of other activities and events in the area.
