Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 bedrooms + day bed on porch, 1 1/2bath (sleeps 6)

The world renowned waters and undersea life of Kealakakua Bay are just a few steps from our driveway-we count 33 steps from our driveway to the Wharf. Our Hawaiian-style three bedroom house is nestled privately between the cliffs and the ocean in the village of Napo'opo'o on the shores of Kealakakua Bay. A true vacation rental experience, you will feel welcomed in this fully equipped house.

With a peekaboo ocean view you can see the sparkling diamonds on the water just across the street. Stroll to the bay for some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii. See spinner dolphins year round and humpback whales in season. BBQ in the private, fenced backyard. Enjoy pleasant quiet evenings on the lanai and marvel at the clear starswept sky.

Hale Keo Keo has three lovely bedrooms with ceiling fans in each room. They are individually unique with a Hawaiian theme and will add to the comfort of your stay. There are queen beds in two of the rooms and one has two twin beds.

Our modern refurbished kitchen is fully equipped for you and your ohana (family). It includes a microwave, fridge/freezer (w/icemaker), kitchenaid stand mixer, coffee grinder and auto-brewpot. Enjoy the abundance of fresh fish, vegies, fruit, local grown greens and tomatoes from the farmer's market on Saturday.

The floors in Hale Keo Keo are original koa wood which brings character and charm to the cottage.

The living room is has Hawaiiana style furnishings and is a reminder of where the ohana (family) would sit and talk story.

Feast outside on the lanai's (porch) dining area overlooking the yard and a peak of the sea. Listen to the waves caress the shore and ENJOY! Many people say they spend a great deal of there. It is a sweet place with privacy from the outside world to enjoy a meal, read and spend time with loved ones.

About Victoria Fullerton

Aloha, I am the new owner of Hale Keo Keo.Thank you for choosing this charming old Hawaiian family home. I am an outdoor environmental educator and have a great love of nature, especially the blue waters of Hawaii. I became a certified scuba diver in 1978 and love exploring the beauty of the undersea world. I have been visiting this bay for over twenty years since being introduced to the dolphin pods who frequent the bay. I love the feel of this quiet village of Na'poopoo which offers a different experience of an authentic Hawaiian neighborhood. It is just a short walk to the waves breaking at the edge of the bay and offers a great place to drink your morning coffee or tea. Sunsets are often filled with rainbows and the smell of plumeria surrounds you with the Aloha of this special seaside paradise.

Victoria Fullerton purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Victoria Fullerton chose Captain Cook

I have visited many homes in the islands but Hale Keo Keo captured my heart the first time I came to rest and relax here in 2004. The cottage carries the spirit of aloha with its inviting lanai surrounded by tropical plants and a giant plumeria tree. The charm of the old Koa wood floors and Hawaiiana artwork through out the house will remind you of times gone by. Newly furnished living areas and comfortable bedrooms will make you feel right at home. I come to rest, relax and explore by the beautiful bay that is often filled with our friendly spinner dolphins.

I have recently updated the house giving it my own aloha touch.

What makes this cottage unique

Located at the marine sanctuary of Kealakekua Bay you will have an opportunity to see our local pods of Spinner Dolphins playing and jumping in the bay. A park just steps from the beach offers restrooms and picnic tables where the locals often enjoy a luau. A short walk over to the secluded Manini Beach offers shaded lawn areas and a place to dip into the water. The launch ramp just a minute's walk from the house is where the licensed kayak operators put there kayaks in the bay.

A ten minute drive down the road takes you to Honounou known as "two-step" where you can snorkel and often times swim with sea turtles. Our home offers you access to the best of the island.

Notes:
The FAIR WIND tour out of Kealakakua Bay is a delight, making it's way up the coast (usually with dolphins popping in for a bow ride). They serve lunch and provide snorkel gear when they moor at Captain Cook Monument in Kealakakua Bay! You can swim over the coral next to the Pali (cliff) to the monument from Napo'opo'o Beach. It is a mile swim according to the Ironman particiapants who swim it in October before the competition.Early morning is best Being a strog swimmer is useful. Sunscreen and long sleeves are a VERY GOOD idea for a long swim.

House had everything you’d need to stay a week plus. Love the area. Communication was great. Nothing really negative about my experience. Will be back.

A Bit of "Old" Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

There was'nt one more thing that Victoria & Mitra could have possibly done to make our stay more enjoyable. If you are looking for a modern condo/shopping /poolside experience this is NOT the place for you! My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing & quiet ambiance of this wonderful cottage. Our meals on the lanai with uninvited but charming guests, gekos & crimson birds, were special times of the day. Morning & evening walks through the neighborhood & along the bay were treasured rituals. Our big bonus was an invitation by Colin (handyman) & his beautiful daughter Georgia to an evening potluck where we wined & dined with the most wonderful and friendly locals. With a bit of luck and good health we will be back soon. Thank you Victoria, Mitra, Colin & Georgia.

Awesome Location and well appointed house

  • 5 of 5

This home is one of the best stocked/equipped rentals I have stayed. The owner thought of every little detail that made our trip much more relaxing and easy. The kitchen has every conceivable utensil and spice you would need on a weeklong vacation ( it even has a coffee grinder). The furniture is much nicer than most other rentals etc... Mitra the caretaker is super accommodating and even let us drop our bags off in the morning hours before check-in. Cooks monument We saw dolphins every day and swim with them twice. Highly recommended.

Loved this "old Hawaiian cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place in a wonderful location. Wake to morning bird song, watch the sunset from a nearby pier, sleep to the ocean waves. Loved the well labeled kitchen. Everything neat and clean. Mahalo Victoria and Mitre.

Car: necessary

Kealakekua Bay is an easy drive 15 miles south of Kailua-Kona or 20 miles south of Keahole airport.

Fantastic snorkeling and swimming all around Kealakakua Bay. Manini Beach (easiest point of entry and highly recommended) and Napo'opo'o "beach" (not much sand) are close by. The Kealakakua Bay Wharf is across the street. Kayaks are allowed by permitted outfitters only.. You can hike or take a tour boat (Fairwind or Bodyglove) to the Captain Cook Monument. There is great snorkeling around most of the bay.

Turning left out the driveway staying on Pu'uhonua Road (the house is on this road), about 5 miles out the scenic road, you will come across The City of Refuge which is filled with ancient Hawaiian lore. The popular two-step snorkeling park is located to the right before the entrance to the Refuge but parking is limited.
