Gorgeous place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Seven weeks into a 6 month rental seems to be a good time to give an honest review!

We (husband and I) decided to spend the winter in Crete to get away form the bitter cold of the UK and enjoy a quiet period without few of the hassles of a hectic life and start to enjoy our own company again. We searched for a long time to find somewhere that was good for us. Having been to Crete for many holidays we decided that the west of Crete was for us.

Comfortable home

The sea – I couldn’t contemplate being far away!

Quiet but near to shopping

Interesting places to visit

Good health facilities

Wifi – as I have to continue to work

So we found Villa Kounoupitsa… a great find. Stella, the owner could not be more helpful, kind and considerate. She has pointed us in all the right directions and answered many questions, translated from Greek to English (her English is excellent) and it’s a pleasure to live next door.

The house has been recently restored, spacious, with thick walls keeping the house cool in summer and warm in winter. It’s well appointed and we lack for nothing. We have an open wood fire which is obviously not needed in the summer! It’s not needed all the time in the winter either. The beds are really comfortable and we have a decent bathroom and loads of hot water through the solar heating system. Internet is fast and reliable, an essential, because I still have to run my business.

Breakfast is eaten on the large terrace – yes, even in December! We are south facing and so catch the sun nicely. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival and enjoyed our olive oil and raki gifts!

Kissamos is a lovely small town that has everything you need and when staying a long time its good to know that everything from restaurants, coffee shops, places to visit and health facilities are on the doorstep. The lovely town of Chania is about 40 mins drive, during the summer a walk down the Samarian Gorge is a wonderful day and the gorgeous Elefonisi is a lovely day trip…

Looking forward to the next few months here… Villa Kounoupitsa is THE place to come for your holiday.

Mooi en rustig verblijf met zicht op de olijfbomen

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great holiday in "Villa Kounoupitsa".

  • 5 of 5

The house, in traditional Cretan style, is clean and comfortable. The kitchen and the bath are endowed with all the necessary services for a pleasant stay. The swimming pool is surrounded by plants and colored flowers. In the evening a fresh breeze goes down from the near mountains and is pleasant to eat in the terrace. The position of the house is strategic to reach the most beautiful beaches of West Crete: Falasarna, Balos Beach and Lagoon, Elafonisi, ... To freely visit the marvelous beaches of West Crete is preferable to rent a car. Stella Marentaki, owner of the house, is very kind person. Thanks a lot to Stella and her family, we could not hope to lodge in a best house.

A really good stay at 'Villa Kounoupitsa'

  • 4 of 5

The first good impression was the location, a nice house well-furnished in a quite position. And what to say about the owner ! Mrs Stella is friendly, kindly and caring to make you feel welcome. The property has been cleaned every four days, that is not usual for a rent house. The village of Kissamos is a perfect place to spend your vacation far from the noise. There are some nice beaches and the city of Hanià is quite near if you want to spend a pleasant evening, dining in one of the restaurant overlooking the Venetian harbour. Thank Stella so much !

A conseiller.

Traditional stone-house Kissamos

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved staying at the charming, lovely little house perfectly situated 1km from Kissamos - a town just big enough for everything you need. The house had all the ementies including a dishwasher and a fab bathroom. Stella is delightful and brought us wonderful olive oil and delicious fresh eggs from her own chickens. My husband and I would go back in an instant. Helen & Richard from Wimbledon, London.

Car: recommended

Kissamos offers something for everyone. If you are looking for some quiet time there are plenty of unspoilt sandy beaches, hillside or portside tavernas and cobbled village to wander around. If you want a livelier holiday there are some fabulous seafront bars and clubs to enjoy. If you are a family, the beaches, restaurants and bars are all very child friendly. There is a small ferryboat from the port (5 min by car) which allows you to explore the islands beauty, the small Island of Gramvoussa is a must.
