Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in County Cork - Drishane

A Superb Stone Built Cottage - Amazing views - sleeps 6/8 3 Beds 2 Bathrooms

3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Huge Kitchen and 3 reception rooms.

Our beautiful house at Drishane is situated 6 miles from Schull on the Mizen Peninsula in an elevated position with wonderful views over Dunmanus Bay. High speed Internet and printer with office looking over the Atalntic ocean. From the kitchen window you can watch Dolphins and Seals feeding for the mackerel which abound in the water here. It is a cottage style, stone built house in a half acre garden. Running through the garden is a stream with a small waterfall and pool with a bridge to a little spinney – ideal for the children to play. You can walk to the private beach which is 5 minutes away and within 150 mts view from the property where you can swim fish and sunbathe.

The location is well placed to access Schull, Ballydehob (5 miles), and Baltimore (12 miles) on the Roaring Water Bay side of the peninsula as well as Bantry (7 miles), Glengariff (12 miles) and beyond the Dunmanus side, all of which have many excellent pubs and restaurants. The village of Durrus is 5 miles away with pubs great food and live music plus a mini-market filled with local produce. The surrounding countryside is stunning in all directions both beautiful and craggy and is excellent for hill walking and cycling. There are first class golf courses in Bantry, Glengariff and Skibbereen plus amazing long beautiful sandy beaches around Crookhaven and Barley Cove.

Many of our friends and family who have stayed describe the setting as idyllic but all without doubt maintain it is the best view they have ever experienced anywhere on earth. Surrounded by the mountains and sea washed by the gulf stream waters makes the location and amazing scenery one of those rare places where you can almost touch the peace and serenity. It is truly an unforgettable cottage in the most wonderful of locations – writer’s poets and artists are inspired here - as you open the door and step inside you feel like you have been transposed into another world where you can lose your cares and find tranquility!

About Gillian Seago

Following many years of happy holidays in Ireland with our children we decided that there could be no better place to invest our savings in a holiday cottage. We have been coming here for the last 12 years and so many friends and family say they think it the most idyllic place on earth. We know if you stay here you will leave relaxed refreshed and with the happiest of memories.

Gillian Seago purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Gillian Seago chose Ireland

This area of Ireland is undoubtedly considered the most coveted -surrounded by hills mountains lakes streams and of course the great Atlantic Ocean itself. The water is warm and literally so close you could hit a cricket ball into the sea ... the views are never ending. It is hard to describe the natural beauty and wildlife that abound in the area. For the fishermen you can catch your mackerel for breakfast and be cooking it 5 minutes later on the Aga. Sandy beaches abound and the local people are so warm and friendly - it is a super place to be!

What makes this cottage unique

The views from the panoramic Kitchen window will astound you - in the mornings and often late afternoons Dolphins can be seen swimming and playing. Sitting by the stream in the evening with the barbecue gently smoking away you can watch the breathtaking sunsets as you look out across the ocean. Inside the house is so warm and comfortable even on those less sunny days there is a unique quality and pleasure that our home has. The smell of the open peat fire the Aga with the kettle always hissing away on the boil takes you back to times when time seems endless and happy with all the excitement of the days to come. Holidays here are truly amazing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in this wonderful house 3 years ago with our 2 children and now have just booked again for this year. This house is in a magical setting with the chance to walk to the secluded beach which is private and perfect for the children with rock pools soft sand and sheltered water.

We promised to leave a review then but overlooked doing it - now as we look forward to this years visit we want to put that right and say how nice Gillian (the owner) is and how special they made us feel in their home and supporting our every request.

Stunning views

A bright and comfortable home with views from every window.

Well situated for a peaceful getaway while being in reach of town with shops and restaurants.

The 'private' beach was only a few minutes down the road and offered protected water for swimming and relaxing the day away.

Lovely House in an Idyllic Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited this property (for the 3rd time) in early September, as we cannot seem to get enough of the quiet and peacefulness which is its best feature. We found the house exactly as we expected from our previous visits, and we were very warmly welcomed by the lady who does the caretaking and provides the keys. We encountered nothing adverse during our stay - the broken DVD player that was reported by a previous guest has been replaced, so that we were able to entertain ourselves indoors even on the rainy days, of which there were of course a few, this being West Cork in September! This year we visited the Bantry Agricultural Show, last year it was the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. There is always something cultural and interesting going on in this area, and in between times there is always the Murphy's!! Wholeheartedly recommended.

Special house, full of charm with incredible view

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house so much! It is beautiful from the outside with the MOST beautiful view of the bay and a ruin and mountains, and when you enter the house, your jaw drops again. From the stone floor to the exposed beams, the house is filled with rustic charm. We couldn't get the DVD player to work, and with two small kids it would have been great to watch a movie together, but the wifi was great and we LOVED the house. We have family in Ballydehob, and popping over to see them was a piece of cake, plus the house is so close to Schull and Durrus that it was nice having such beautiful options for food and groceries. If we go back again any time soon, we will stay here in a heartbeat!

A magical weekend!

  • 5 of 5

If you want rest, relaxation, tranquillity and stunning scenery, together with a real sense of the local community, then this is the place to visit.

We were privileged to share the weekend with George and Gillian, the owners, who provided the most incredible welcome and tremendous hospitality. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable, a real home from home...

For our first trip to Ireland, this was a truly wonderful experience and one we shall be repeating in June.

In addition to the comfort to be provided at the house, there are many attractions and amenities within easy access to be explored and enjoyed.

Highly recommended!

Lovely House in a Magical Setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely, peaceful, welcoming - and clearly much loved - house in a very special location. To sit at the table overlooking Dumanus Bay, with the bright blue sea and sky split only by the green hills of the other side of the bay is really something - quite magical in fact. And the surrounding area - Schull (we love Newman's West), Crookhaven, the fabulous beach at Barleycove, Ahakista (Arundel's is excellent) - has lots to offer. Our third time in the area: we have had a terrific, restful and enjoyable time and will be back.....

Owner's Response: We loved having Paul and Marie-Louise and their family stay at our home. We're so glad that they loved the house and the area as much as we do. We would welcome them back at any time and hope they stay again in the future. This is the sort of family every renter dreams of.

Clean Spacious Luxurious and Fabulous Views

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect Holiday retreat and described accurately by the owners. We arrived late at night but the lights were all turned on there was some food we requested in the fridge and we went to bed so excited to see the outlook in the morning. We woke up to an amazing view over the sea the sun was shining on the mountains and this is really like something out of the movies. Absolutely brilliant place to stay the location for food and places to visit are perfect. We are booking to go again this year. Jacqui Hawes
