Overview

About the property

A Superb Stone Built Cottage - Amazing views - sleeps 6/8 3 Beds 2 Bathrooms

3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Huge Kitchen and 3 reception rooms.

Our beautiful house at Drishane is situated 6 miles from Schull on the Mizen Peninsula in an elevated position with wonderful views over Dunmanus Bay. High speed Internet and printer with office looking over the Atalntic ocean. From the kitchen window you can watch Dolphins and Seals feeding for the mackerel which abound in the water here. It is a cottage style, stone built house in a half acre garden. Running through the garden is a stream with a small waterfall and pool with a bridge to a little spinney – ideal for the children to play. You can walk to the private beach which is 5 minutes away and within 150 mts view from the property where you can swim fish and sunbathe.

The location is well placed to access Schull, Ballydehob (5 miles), and Baltimore (12 miles) on the Roaring Water Bay side of the peninsula as well as Bantry (7 miles), Glengariff (12 miles) and beyond the Dunmanus side, all of which have many excellent pubs and restaurants. The village of Durrus is 5 miles away with pubs great food and live music plus a mini-market filled with local produce. The surrounding countryside is stunning in all directions both beautiful and craggy and is excellent for hill walking and cycling. There are first class golf courses in Bantry, Glengariff and Skibbereen plus amazing long beautiful sandy beaches around Crookhaven and Barley Cove.

Many of our friends and family who have stayed describe the setting as idyllic but all without doubt maintain it is the best view they have ever experienced anywhere on earth. Surrounded by the mountains and sea washed by the gulf stream waters makes the location and amazing scenery one of those rare places where you can almost touch the peace and serenity. It is truly an unforgettable cottage in the most wonderful of locations – writer’s poets and artists are inspired here - as you open the door and step inside you feel like you have been transposed into another world where you can lose your cares and find tranquility!

About Gillian Seago

Following many years of happy holidays in Ireland with our children we decided that there could be no better place to invest our savings in a holiday cottage. We have been coming here for the last 16 years and so many friends and family say they think it the most idyllic place on earth. We know when you stay here you will leave relaxed refreshed and with the happiest of memories.

Gillian Seago purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Gillian Seago chose Ireland

This area of Ireland is undoubtedly considered the most coveted - surrounded by hills mountains lakes streams and of course the great Atlantic Ocean itself. The water is warm and literally so close you could hit a cricket ball into the sea ... the views are never ending. It is hard to describe the natural beauty and wildlife that abound in the area. For the fishermen you can catch your mackerel for breakfast and be cooking it 5 minutes later on the Aga. Sandy beaches abound and the local people are so warm and friendly - it is a super place to be!

What makes this cottage unique

The views from the panoramic Kitchen window will astound you - in the mornings and sometimes in the late afternoons Dolphins and Seals can be seen swimming and playing. Sitting by the stream in the evening with the barbecue gently smoking away you can watch the breathtaking sunsets as you look out across the ocean. Inside the house is so warm and comfortable even on those less sunny days there is a unique quality and pleasure that our home has. The smell of the open peat fire the Aga with the kettle always hissing away on the boil takes you back to times when time seems endless and happy with all the excitement of the days to come. Holidays here are truly amazing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay in Durrus and this great rental helped make the stay extra special. We usually do most of our own cooking and this house had great cookware and utensils to do that. The stove was awesome! We like to hike and so visited Mizen point and Lough Hyne for some spectacular hiking. We drove the Ring of Beare which was beautiful. The roads take a little getting used to, but we managed. We will be talking about our stay in Durrus, Ireland for years to come. Thanks for sharing your house with us.

Owner's Response: Hi, Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our home in Durrus. We have literally just arrived home in England from 5 days there ourselves after your stay. We found you had left the house in perfect order - thank you and would welcome you back any time. We had the most amazing weather, so much so that George my husband got sunburnt on his face. Its really good of you to take the trouble to write a review and we appreciate your comments very much. Gillina

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

A hidden gem! This was our 3rd visit in 3 years and certainly won’t be our last. The farm house itself is stunning. Very cosy and the views are breath-taking. We enjoyed lots of long walks with plenty of pub stops along the way. Also, as big golfers we were surrounded by some of Irelands finest. We took day trips to the infamous Old Head, Ballybunion, Tralee and Waterville. Thank you for letting us stay at your home.

Stunning views

  • 4 of 5

A bright and comfortable home with views from every window.

Well situated for a peaceful getaway while being in reach of town with shops and restaurants.

The 'private' beach was only a few minutes down the road and offered protected water for swimming and relaxing the day away.

Lovely House in an Idyllic Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited this property (for the 3rd time) in early September, as we cannot seem to get enough of the quiet and peacefulness which is its best feature. We found the house exactly as we expected from our previous visits, and we were very warmly welcomed by the lady who does the caretaking and provides the keys. We encountered nothing adverse during our stay - the broken DVD player that was reported by a previous guest has been replaced, so that we were able to entertain ourselves indoors even on the rainy days, of which there were of course a few, this being West Cork in September! This year we visited the Bantry Agricultural Show, last year it was the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. There is always something cultural and interesting going on in this area, and in between times there is always the Murphy's!! Wholeheartedly recommended.
