Overview

About the property

Spacious and cosy stone cottage, sleeps 4 + baby

Camnacar cottage is a converted stable on an organic smallholding. Chickens and ducks share the enclosed garden with a stream running through it. Conveniently located in the centre of the village, the post office and an award winning village shop are just across the street.

The cottage is both spacious, warm and comfortable with stripped pine floors downstairs and a wood burner in the large sitting room. The upstairs rooms have views to the hills beyond the village. Down filled duvets and firm mattresses ensure you will sleep well in this peaceful spot.

The kitchen is well appointed with dish washer, microwave and washing machine as well as wifi if you need to keep in touch. There is plenty of information about the local area and also books, DVDs and games for evenings at home.

The newly fitted bathroom has a power shower over the bath, there is another toilet downstairs.

The situation: Camnacar Cottage is set in a beautiful enclosed garden with plenty of space to explore (about 2 acres) A stream runs through the garden from which we will generate hydroelectricity. There are also a couple of duck ponds and you can enjoy walking around the garden and then on up the hill. We grow vegetables so home produce is available and we can provide meals if you tell us in advance. Babysitting can also be arranged.

The cottage is spacious for 4 or 5 with a baby. A large sitting room with a wood burning stove as well as a table for dining or there is one in the kitchen if you prefer. We provide fruit, bread, milk and other basics for when you arrive but Kirkmichael Village Shop (community run) is very close, and has pretty much everything you need. The cottage is warm and all the rooms have adjustable central heating and the beds are all comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment such as washing machine, dish washer, microwave, fridge freezer and wifi is available.

The surrounding area: The village of Kirkmichael has a general store and post office as well as the Strathardle Inn, The Kirkmichael Hotel and the Log Cabin Hotel, which all provide food and comfortable fire side chat. Over the bridge there are a good variety of walks in all directions and many more up and down the Ardle valley. There are also good tracks for cyclists (as long as you don't mind a few hills...) Nearby mountains include gorgeous views from Beinn Vrackie, Beinn a'Ghlo the munro and famous and ancient Schiehallion. Wildlife abounds, we regularly see deer on the hills round about and red squirrels often play in the garden. Our own animals include chickens and ducks, children are welcome to help at feeding time.

Things to do: Activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and mountaineering are all popular. For those fond of whiskey, the charming family run Edradour distillery is the oldest in Scotland, also Dalwhinney and Dewars distilleries are close by. Relax at a number of health farms in the area such as the Lavendar Spa in Pitlochry . Horse riding can be arranged at Glenmarkie, a beautiful area to explore. Try a visit to the Glenshee Pottery for local crafts or paint a pot with children on a wet day. Shop at the popular House of Bruar with the impressive Falls of Bruar behind. Snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding is easily accessed from the Cairnwell ski centre. Golf courses are also plentiful.

About Hannah Goodman

Hannah and Miles came to the area in 2007 when Polly was 2 and Sebastian was just a few months old. We were attracted by the beautiful countryside, the potential to create a small holding whilst living in a village with all the amenities. Our children go to the village school so they have their friends all around.

Hannah Goodman purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Hannah Goodman chose Perth and Kinross

We like the solid stone buildings set in beautiful and interesting countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love being right in the village with all the amenities on hand but at the same time we can open the door and run into the hills and be away from it all. The air is so fresh and pure here. Our water supply is from a natural spring which is delicious.

Beyond expectations

We absolutely love it! Thank you so much Hannah for the lovely bread and jam.

It is located in a quiet village. There is a small (but great) store to buy a few groceries and have a coffee or cake. So peaceful and quiet. We are glad we took our wellingtons and walk around in the fields. Highly recommend!!!!!

The cottage had everything we need it! Thank you so much for making us feel at home!

Very cosy, comfortable cottage, full of personal touches to make you feel at home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed while visiting the enchanted forest. About 30 mins from Pitlochry, Kirkmichael is a great location for exploring the area. For those who don't want to venture far there is a local run shop over the road, offering essentials for your trip, and a friendly hotel further up the street serving decent pub grub and restaurant meals. There are also a couple of easy walks to help you explore the village. The river walk was perfectly autumnal in late October and we had great fun playing leaf monster superheroes on our stroll 😀?😀?

The cottage itself is very comfortable and homey, perfect for our little family escape, although for 4 adults it might feel a little small after a few days. It is very well stocked with essentials - probably the best stocked self catering accommodation we've stayed in! From toilet roll, and tin foil to a range of seasoning and spices ( not that we cooked much this trip!), and milk, butter, tea and coffee The welcome basket with home made bread and jam is a lovely personal touch, along with the fresh flowers and toys in the double room. We have two young daughters who were thrilled to find holiday dollies on their bed to welcome them to their holiday home. They also loved hiding in the understair nook, climbing on window ledges and exploring the gardens - not to forget making friends with the cat and chickens!

The wood burner heats the room up a treat and make it super cosy for any time of year. We were lucky enough to have a clear evening full of stars and a light frost, the perfect excuse to get the fire going and stay warm inside 😀?.

Hannah and her family are lovely and very accommodating. We hope to be back for the enchanted forest next year.

Idyllic quiet cottage in rural Scotland

  • 5 of 5

Very well equipped cottage, warm and inviting and set on a working smallholding with chickens etc running around. Very tranquil with no light pollution we enjoyed the peace and quiet. We made daily forays into the delightful Scottish countryside from the cottage which was warm and welcoming to return to after a day out.

Relaxed and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for 1 week. From there we took day trips to various areas in the region, seeing lots of sites and walking lots.

When we arrived, Hannah had left us some basic staples (milk, butter, homemade jam-yummy, fruit and fresh eggs from their chickens). She brought over homemade bread, still warm the first evening (wonderful).

The cottage was very comfortable and after a day of travelling it was great to get back to the cottage and unwind and relax.

Hannah and Miles just lived across the yard from the cottage, so if we had any questions they were there to help. They and their children are very warm and generous people. They made us feel very welcomed.

Though we didn't have any children with us, the cottage seemed to have all the necessities for children as well.

The village of Kirkmichael is small but quaint, and the village shop across the street carried most supplies you would need. The Strathardle Inn was just a short walk (maybe 5 minutes) up the road from the cottage, and it had a warm and inviting pub with very tasty food and friendly staff. We ate there each evening and tasted much of their varied menu. It would be an idea to reserve a table, as it is small and while we were there, the pub was always busy. Perhaps at a different time of year it might be quieter, but we were there in September.

Kirkmichael is about 20 minutes outside of Pitlochry, but the road is narrow and windy, so you can't drive overly fast. However, the scenery is interesting as you drive to Kirkmichael from Pitlochry.

Kirkmichael also has a hiking trail starting in town, so if you are up for a walk (short or long), the trail is not even 5 minutes from the cottage.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and heartily suggest that if you're looking for a place in that area, Camnacar would be a great place to stay! 😃

Lovely cottage in rural bliss

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 10 days this summer at Camnacar Cottage opposite Hannah, Miles and their family. The place is spacious and well-appointed. It was a perfect place to get away from it all - with country walks and a great base to explore the local towns, castles and sights. Its clean, well-stocked and in good condition. The kitchen had virtually everything we needed. There is abundant wildlife and they keep chickens on the small holding. Hannah and her family were generous hosts, giving us a lovely welcome gift and regular offerings from the garden / hens as well as pointing out to us the best routes, spots and visits. The village shop means that you can get what you need easily and equally there is a good pub just up the road. We would definitely recommend and hope to come back soon.

Nature such as red squirrels and deer can be seen in the area.

The famous courses at St.Andrews are also within easy distance.

All welcome visitors, although booking may be required.
