Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Blairgowrie - Camnacar Cottage

Spacious and cosy stone cottage, sleeps 4 + baby

Camnacar cottage is a converted stable on an organic smallholding. Chickens and ducks share the enclosed garden with a stream running through it. Conveniently located in the centre of the village, the post office and an award winning village shop are just across the street.

The cottage is both spacious, warm and comfortable with stripped pine floors downstairs and a wood burner in the large sitting room. The upstairs rooms have views to the hills beyond the village. Down filled duvets and firm mattresses ensure you will sleep well in this peaceful spot.

The kitchen is well appointed with dish washer, microwave and washing machine as well as wifi if you need to keep in touch. There is plenty of information about the local area and also books, DVDs and games for evenings at home.

The newly fitted bathroom has a power shower over the bath, there is another toilet downstairs.

The situation: Camnacar Cottage is set in a beautiful enclosed garden with plenty of space to explore (about 2 acres) A stream runs through the garden from which we will generate hydroelectricity. There are also a couple of duck ponds and you can enjoy walking around the garden and then on up the hill. We grow vegetables so home produce is available and we can provide meals if you tell us in advance. Babysitting can also be arranged.

The cottage is spacious for 4 or 5 with a baby. A large sitting room with a wood burning stove as well as a table for dining or there is one in the kitchen if you prefer. We provide fruit, bread, milk and other basics for when you arrive but Kirkmichael Village Shop (community run) is very close, and has pretty much everything you need. The cottage is warm and all the rooms have adjustable central heating and the beds are all comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment such as washing machine, dish washer, microwave, fridge freezer and wifi is available.

The surrounding area: The village of Kirkmichael has a general store and post office as well as the Strathardle Inn, The Kirkmichael Hotel and the Log Cabin Hotel, which all provide food and comfortable fire side chat. Over the bridge there are a good variety of walks in all directions and many more up and down the Ardle valley. There are also good tracks for cyclists (as long as you don't mind a few hills...) Nearby mountains include gorgeous views from Beinn Vrackie, Beinn a'Ghlo the munro and famous and ancient Schiehallion. Wildlife abounds, we regularly see deer on the hills round about and red squirrels often play in the garden. Our own animals include chickens and ducks, children are welcome to help at feeding time.

Things to do: Activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and mountaineering are all popular. For those fond of whiskey, the charming family run Edradour distillery is the oldest in Scotland, also Dalwhinney and Dewars distilleries are close by. Relax at a number of health farms in the area such as the Lavendar Spa in Pitlochry . Horse riding can be arranged at Glenmarkie, a beautiful area to explore. Try a visit to the Glenshee Pottery for local crafts or paint a pot with children on a wet day. Shop at the popular House of Bruar with the impressive Falls of Bruar behind. Snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding is easily accessed from the Cairnwell ski centre. Golf courses are also plentiful.

About Hannah Goodman

Hannah and Miles came to the area in 2007 when Polly was 2 and Sebastian was just a few months old. We were attracted by the beautiful countryside, the potential to create a small holding whilst living in a village with all the amenities. Our children go to the village school so they have their friends all around.

Hannah Goodman purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Hannah Goodman chose Perthshire

We like the solid stone buildings set in beautiful and interesting countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love being right in the village with all the amenities on hand but at the same time we can open the door and run into the hills and be away from it all. The air is so fresh and pure here. Our water supply is from a natural spring which is delicious.

Everything one would need for a comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

At first we thought we were so far off the beaten path after driving the one track roads that we shared with sheep.

After a few days as we began to mellow, (and got used to the driving),

we fell in love with the area, and our little farm house.

It is important to us to be able to cook some of our meals while on holiday,

and the kitchen was well equipped for that.

There is even a little general store right across the road.

Hannah welcomed us with a lovely basket of food, and told us to let her know if

there was anything we needed.

We would highly recommend this cottage with its proximity to charming surrounding towns and villages

Comfy, cozy and lots of space

  • 5 of 5

Great location to explore the highlands. We had everything we needed and felt right at home. We were only able to stay 3 days do to availability but that was long enough to know that the Goodman family are lovely people. They truly provide a fantastic place to stay while on holiday in Scotland. Plenty of books, games, and movies to keep us busy on the one day we stayed in. We loved the chickens! They were so friendly and funny. The welcoming basket was very thoughtful! We only hope that someday we can visit again and stay longer. Such a relaxing, quite place to call home for a spell. Many thanks to the Goodman family!

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was for my partner, nephew and friend taking part in the cataran yomp for the Army benevolent fund charity, nestled in the quiet village of Kirkmicheal, 12 miles either side was two lovely villages,

The cottage itself exceeded our expectations, was so cosy but quite large and had everything we needed,

Greeted by Hanna the lovely owner who couldn't do enough for us, made us feel right at home, left us to it but also made it quite clear she was on hand, the lovely little welcome basket she provided was so very thoughtful !!

She even gave the team a donation as we were leaving !! Absolutely wonderful

Great place, great hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Staying in the house was absolutely great! The hosts were super friendly and very nice people, the communication with them was also great. The house itself is very nice - spacious, with all the amenities you might need (including a dishwasher, microwave, internet connection, etc.). A great place to stay and explore Scotland!

Great Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed almost 7 weeks in this lovely cottage in April/May 2016. We can't say enough good things about this property and the caring family who tended to us. Having two young children, ages 9 and 7, they loved the beautiful property with it's endless places to explore and playing with Hannah and Miles children who are so kind and happy. The house is much roomier than the photos show and the standard of everything in it is high. Beds, downing, furniture was all so super comfy. The kitchen was well equipped and we received a welcome pack of goodies as well as a home cooked meal on arrival. They were also very generous with their home grown organic garden and eggs!! Kirkmichael was a perfect location for exploring the highlands, popping down to Edinburgh and Stirling (and even into England to Hadrian's Wall) and then traveling up to the Orkney Islands - all of which we did.

We thank the Goodman family for giving us such a wonderful experience and providing such a special base for us to explore Scotland.

A hidden treasure in the highlands

  • 4 of 5

A cosy cottage tucked away in the beautiful highlands. Our welcome basket was a real surprise and the wild flowers set the scene for our local environment. The cottage was warm, clean and comfy and had everything we needed. Our boys loved exploring the wild garden with the children and feeding the chickens . Miles and Hannah made us feel very welcome and gave us great tips on local walks and excursions. If you are looking for tranquility in stunning surroundings, look no further !
