Quiet Front Line 3 Bedroom Cottage On The Beach & Within 5 Mins Walk Of Town
About Peter French
Peter owns a design firm in London, and his wife Shelagh is a professional artist to MA level; their experience and taste has been imposed onto this house for the benefit of everyone including themselves (when they get the chance to stay at the property themselves). They have three teenage daughters, and the whole family love the unique variety this area has to offer.

Why Peter French chose Dawlish
I first went through Dawlish by train with my Dad in the late 70s and just fell in love with it. I have always wanted a seaside getaway, quiet but central and front-line; Dawlish and this house just ticks all the boxes for us. Picturesque town, thriving high street, clean beaches, wonderful walks and just endless things to do both at sea and inland. And as a regular user of Home Away, we know what the holiday maker wants. Taste, cleanliness, thoughtful design and great value. We are confident you will fall in love with this house and its location, and we want you to experience the wonder we still experience every time we go there.
What makes this Cottage unique
We waited around 3 years for the right property to come up. It had to be the right size, the right location and have the right outlook. This has it all, and whether its the middle of winter with a sea storm in full force, or the height of summer with tranquil sea breezes and soft waves lapping the Devonian red sand, this cottage will ensure you fall in love with everything inside and outside of the doorstep.

A Welcome Retreat
Beautiful property, quiet secluded location, amazing sea views.
On the whole very good, television reception was not good at times. The cottage was as described, the only drawback was no parking (to be fair we did know this) and lots of steps and or steep slopes to gain access
Fantastic place to stay in Dawlish, the cottage is beautiful everything you could possibly need. Views from the terrace are amazing. Walk to the property will keep you fit but it sure is worth it to get to such a hidden gem. Will definitely return one day!
We're normally disappointed with holiday properties that we rent, but I can honestly say that this property is probably the best we've stayed in.
Granted it’s a bit of pain to get to (it's a little hard to find the entrance - look for a 'grassy area' opposite East Cliff Road - and it's a walk down a hill for 50 yards followed by a number of steps, a walk along a 50 yard private path and some more steps). But once inside the property it's *so* worth the effort for a stunning and uninterrupted view of the sea. Yes, there are trains that run past the property but they're not invasive and actually quite interesting – a bonus… having the station on the doorstep should mean being able to leave the car keys for jollies to Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish Warren, Exeter and beyond. And because the property is set below the road by the sea any road noise is generally nullified. Parking was, for us, easy on the side roads around the property.
Getting to Dawlish town is simple – either a 10-minute walk along the main road or, and this is far more interesting, an 8-minute walk via the sea wall, past the station. We were unlucky to have perfect weather and so missed the spectacle of sea-storm.
The house itself is very well appointed, to an excellent standard and has everything a guest could want. The WIFI isn’t overly fast but it will stream perfectly well. Mobiles don’t generally work – masts aren’t placed in the water and the property is below road height – so use WIFI calling or direct others to call via the phone provided in the property.
The lounge is welcoming, well laid out and has a huge set of hi-fold doors to bring the outside world in. The bedrooms do what they need to. The house is tastefully decorated, and the images are very representative and fair. One thing to note is that the second toilet it outside (built into the wall). Consider it a place for private contemplation.
Would I recommend the property or stay again? In a heartbeat… and this comes from a particularly exacting customer. Thank you Peter.
Well laid out property, clean with everthing needed to enjoy the stay. Fantastic view from the property. Easy access to the train station for easy visits further afield. Well recommended
Overall good experience, comfortable and quiet
Walk east along the sea wall to Starcross and take a boat to Exmouth. Or walk west along the sea wall to Teignmouth marina. Hire a boat and go sailing or fishing. Take a train to Exeter or Plymouth and go shopping. Visit Dawlish Warren nature reserve just 1km east. Go inland 8 miles onto Dartmoor. Or just watch the various steam trains that prevail in the summer months, the Dawlish Air Show in August each year or the twinkling boats and stars at night from your own private patio.
