About the property

Sea Grove - a bungalow that sleeps 7 guests in 3 bedrooms

An attractive, spacious and stylish bungalow enjoying unsurpassed secluded sea views over treetops. Ten minutes from the beach and shops. Sea Grove has been furnished and equipped to a high standard and offers very comfortable family accommodation. The large deck/ patio with fantastic coastal views is a perfect place for alfresco dining on a summer evening whilst enjoying a glass of wine.

Ventnor has a delightful seafront with a crescent shaped beach of sand and shingle. Walk the beautiful coastal paths along the sea wall to Bonchurch or to the ‘secret cove' at Steephill.

The centre of Ventnor benefits a main shopping street, parks and gardens, a good variety of shops, pubs and eateries with freshly caught fish on sale in the Haven.

Local places of interest include the Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Isle of Wight Coastal Visitors Centre, Appuldurcombe House, Isle of Wight Glass, a donkey sanctuary and St Boniface Down, which is the highest point on the Isle of Wight. Nearby are Blackgang Chine and the pretty thatched villages of Old Shanklin and Godshill.

As well as the excellent walking along the heritage coastline, there are varied sport and leisure activities including cycling, boat trips and sea-fishing. There is a local Cricket Club, golf course, Pitch & Putt lawn, tennis courts and a children's playground.

Beautiful views and a suntrap

  • 5 of 5

We had stayed on the island before but not in Ventnor. This property more than met all our family needs with three good sized double rooms, spacious lounge, dining area and kitchen and the stunning view from the sun-soaked decking area.

One of our group has mobility challenges and this was the ideal property for that. Easy access from the parking area, a handy en suite and no hidden steps to tackle.

We found it a great base for the island with some great walks along the coastal path, although not always with the wheelchair. Steephill Cove was a lovely surprise when we came across it.

A lovely place to stay. Comfortable and well equipped, we would definitely stay there again.

Poor selection of glasses.

Rusty towel rail in bathroom.

Mattress in 3rd bedroom coming to the end of its life.

Owner's Response: Thank you David for highlighting those items, we'll get them sorted asap. Meanwhile really hope you did enjoy the location, outside space, sea view, facilities and general high standard of clean accommodation offered at Seagrove (apart the issues you reported).

Lovely accommodation in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Seagrove is perfect - spacious, cosy (we stayed in November) and comfortable.

The views from the bungalow are stunning and the location is excellent as a base for visiting any part of the Island.

Seagrove is dog friendly, as are many of the pubs serving food in the area - we felt welcome in most places, which was lovely.

All in all, just perfect!

Location

What the South Wight has to offer:

The South of the Isle of Wight incorporates some of the most exciting coastline from long stretches of beach with hidden fossils and exposed dinosaur footprints, to rugged cliff tops with exhilarating views and historical monuments and pretty villages steeped in history, the inspiration for artists and authors old and new.

You must visit

BlackGang Chine is a must for all the family with a fantastic variety of activities for all the family to spend a great day out. Themed areas like Frontierland where you can play Cowboys and Indians in a full sized Cowboy Town, and rides like Waterforce where you can choose the fast 'overflows', or the scary 'plug-hole' - you'll have to see it and experience it to believe it!

Attractions

Superbly situated beside the sparkling waters of Sandown Bay, the twin resorts of Sandown and Shanklin have delighted generations of holiday-makers for over 150 years. Along Culver Parade you'll find tennis, bowls, GoKarting, crazy golf, a pitch and putt course, the Tiger Sanctuary and Dinosaur Isle Museum. At the southern end of town the Heights Health and Leisure Base has indoor swimming pools and further inland is a fine 18 hole golf course.

With its charming thatch-roofed cottages and winding main street lined with tearooms, Godshill is the quintessential English Village. Traveling South to Wroxall there's the Donkey Sanctuary and Appledurcombe House now offering Owl and Falconry displays. Visit Chale Green Deli and Coffee shop and on to the Southern most tip of the Island St Catherine's with its ancient Pepperpot. Ventnor Botanic Garden provides a lovely walk and then lunch at their very successful café.

Walking

There are coastal paths around the Island and this section features the Isle of Wight's famous chines. Whale Chine is the most spectacular in a series of Chines along this stretch of coastline. Devil's Chimney provides an exciting walk through enchanted woodland down to the beach; Chale Bay is stunning; Wealdon Beds which have yielded fossilized remains of dinosaurs. With features like St Catherine's Lighthouse many feel this section offers the best walking and views of the entire Isle of Wight.

Beach Life

Sandown and Shanklin on the south-east coast share a wide crescent of golden sand, with safe swimming, water sports and a range of bars, pubs and cafés. The southern stretch, below Shanklin Chine, is the quietest and most attractive.

Ventnor has a wonderful Mediterranean light and, like Sandown and Shanklin, an enviable sunshine record. Steephill Cove is its prettiest beach, a peaceful little bay with a good beach café. Reach it via the coastal footpath from the Botanic Gardens, or La Falaise car park in Ventnor.

Places to eat

Try the local seafood, in particular crab, lobster, haddock dishes. The vast majority of pubs are highly geared up for food and usually the portions are on the large side. Fresh crab in particular can be tasty from beachside cafe's and can also be purchased from the fisherman at seafood huts selling direct, two places spring to mind: Ventnor Fresh Crab Beach Hut and a fisherman's house at Steephill Cove next to the café'.
