About the property

Binfield House - a house that sleeps 11 guests in 4 bedrooms

This spacious and comfortable house is situated in an enviable position of seclusion with an acre and a half of private garden, right next to the marina of Island Harbour, set in the beautiful riverside valley.

Located on the Medina River, about a mile downstream of the world renowned sailing town of Cowes, this peaceful marina offers 200 berths as well as many amenities including a licensed bar and bistro restaurant ‘Breeze', chandlery, boat hoist and repair workshop.

The home offers comfortable accommodation over two floors creating a spacious, light and airy environment with stylish, contemporary furnishings.

You enter the house in to the hallway where there is a downstairs WC. Ahead of you is a large sitting room with open working fire place and glass sliding doors opening on to the garden. To the right is an open plan, well equipped kitchen with central Breakfast Island and a door opening to the garden. The kitchen leads through a seating area with sofa and coffee table and in to the Dining Room which seats twelve, large enough to hold a catered dinner party. Another table is available for an extra four people if necessary. At the end of the dining room there are glass sliding doors out to the garden.

From the dining room area there is a door leading to a downstairs bathroom and then on to the first bedroom which has a double bed and a single bed. Further, to the front of the house there is Study with a sofa bed and television. Off this is a shower room. This room can therefore also be used as a further bedroom with en-suite.

The first floor comprises the master bedroom with King size bed, across the landing is the second bedroom which has a double bed and the third bedroom has 2 single beds and bunk beds. The family bathroom is upstairs with large rose head shower over the bath. All the bedrooms enjoy the views of the beautiful surrounding countryside. A Garden Studio which provides extra accommodation for 2 persons can be made available at an additional cost of £275 per week.

The special thing about this house is although you are in the middle of the country side and all that has to offer, you are also within minutes walk to the bustling marina, with it's very own bistro/bar “Breeze”, with good food, good wine and convivial atmosphere.

Country walks and cycle tracks are all close by. Newport, the Islands capital with an abundance of shops, pubs and restaurants is a 30 minute (approx) riverside walk or just a few minutes (approx) by car. Cyclists can enjoy the local tracks which are accessed close by, linking many outstanding miles over the Island.

A little further (approx ½ mile), a stroll along the riverbank, or a trip down the river in a water taxi, leads to the popular yachtsman's watering-hole ‘The Folly Inn' with lively evening entertainment, good food and large waterside terrace.

Queen Victoria's seaside home, Osborne House is about 2½ miles away and Carisbrooke Castle can be found just the other side of Newport.

Please note - For those bringing a boat, you must notify the Harbour Master the day before arrival with your boat, you must please check the tide times for access to/from the marina, and see www.island-harbour.co.uk

Comfortable house for family holiday

  • 3 of 5

I was impressed with the friendly service from Island Homes, who were always very helpful on the phone. Good to get a discount on the ferry booking.

The house was spacious and good for a family gathering. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking big family meals and the dining room had plenty of space for a big family meal. The sitting room was comfortable.

The house felt cold and damp when we arrived, especially the downstairs bedroom. Double glazing in the extension would be a benefit. The bedrooms have good storage space and are adequately furnished, but the duvets were a bit thin for cold spring nights. The wardrobes in the downstairs bedroom were full of bedding so there was no hanging space. The garden looked nothing like it does in the picture - the grass was overgrown and very wet and boggy in places, not a neat lawn as depicted. It must be much better in the summer!

Location

What the North Wight has to offer:

The North of the Isle of Wight is home to the County Town of Newport, with the Medina River running through it towards the Solent dividing East Cowes and West Cowes. To the West are the villages of Shalfleet and Newtown Creek with a stunning Nature Reserve; to the East are Wootton Bridge and Quarr Abbey.

Attractions

Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle are both with English Heritage, shrouded in their history and surrounded by beautiful grounds, definitely worth a visit. Quarr Abbey, further down the coast from Osborne, is a spectacular working Monastery with tea rooms. The Roman Villa in Brading often has educational classes in the café. Newtown is one of the oldest towns in the UK, situated near a nature reserve, a lovely place to walk and enjoy the wildlife.

Sailing

Best known as the world's premier yachting centre, Cowes is the Island's main port. Yachtsmen from all over the world participate in the season's prestigious sailing events, the best known being Cowes Week, held annually at the beginning of August. Shopping in the narrow pedestrianised High Street is a delight, with some excellent shops, many catering for the yachting fraternity. The town also has an array of fashionable clothing shops, gift shops, delicatessens, cafes, restaurants and lively pubs.

Walking

The Nature Reserve at Newtown is the beautiful home to many species of wild fowl. Inland Parkhurst Forest offers acres to walk dogs and children, with squirrel trails and woodland for picnics and adventure games.

The Festival and The Bestival

The Isle of Wight has played host to these two increasingly popular music festivals. The Festival is held in early June just outside Newport and has been going since the 60's. The Bestival is held in September at the Robin Hill adventure park and every year announces a different fancy dress theme which everyone throws themselves into. Popular with families, both attract some of the great new and old musical acts and the Island's atmosphere is electric over these festival times.

Places to eat

This part of the Island holds some of the best restaurants and pubs. Cowes being a place of destination for many yachtsmen offers a wide range of cuisine of which Lugleys with its sea frontage is popular. There is also a Lugleys in Newport and Olivio's in Newport and Ryde offing delicious menus. Pier View pub in Cowes serves the best hamburgers, the Sportsman Rest in Porchfield is very popular too with families and is close to good walks.
