Welcome to Gold Mine country! Ty Mawr near Dolgellau is a former mine manager’s house and has been beautifully renovated by its owners to create a comfortable and fascinating holiday home. There are two sitting rooms and large bedrooms, so you’ll never feel cramped here. Even so, the temptation to get outside will surely prove too much! Ty Mawr is located just outside the small village of Bronaber, on the road to Dolgellau, with woodlands just waiting to be explored. This is wild Wales, an area of rugged mountains, windswept moorlands, open lakes and miles of forests that hide terrific walking and mountain bike trails. Coed-y-Brenin is a renowned mountain biking centre and is found nearby. Walkers will discover ancients routes into the little visited Rhinog mountains, or find steep wooded ravines with tumbling waterfalls, again less visited than those in the more northern reaches of Snowdonia.
The mountain town of Dolgellau, nestling at the foot of spectacular Cader Idris mountain, is a 15-minute drive away and boasts plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. North of here is Porthmadog, gateway to the Llyn Peninsula and the terminus of not one but three heritage railways.
