Brand New House in Private Hidden Natures Corner

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom Villa with Loft On Private Land

Unspoiled natural beauty and exceptional privacy are just a few of the incredible features at Casa Alaska, a premier vacation villa located along Costa Rica’s immaculate southern Pacific coastline.

Featuring two bedrooms and a studio loft, Casa Alaska is an ideal getaway villa for honeymooners, small families and friendly couples. The home is located in the town of Escaleras, one of the area’s premier mountainside neighborhoods, and comfortably sleeps six guests.

Each bedroom has its own on-suite bathroom, shower and air-conditioning unit. The master bedroom features a king bed while the second room has a double bed. The bedrooms both have individual access to the swimming pool and lounge area out back. Furthermore, the upstairs loft has its own futon for lounging or sleeping on, and there is a washer and dryer on site.

The kitchen area at Casa Alaska is completely modern, with a dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave, blender, coffee pot and all of the appliances you’d need to make your tropical meals extra special. The granite kitchen countertop is expansive, covering almost 9 feet in each direction, and is perfect for setting out snacks, fresh fruits, sit-down meals and deserts. There are also large sliding doors with screens that supply ideal ocean breezes into the kitchen and living space.

With a loveseat, rocking chair and flat-screen television with satellite, the front room is a great place to put your feet up and rest following a thrilling day of exciting outdoor activities.

From the pool deck, guests can see the Pacific Ocean through an unbelievable canopy of jungle trees and brush. This is where a lot of nature’s magic happens, with toucans soaring through the crisp morning breezes and monkeys swinging from vine to vine, without a care in the world. You can – and likely will – sit on that pool deck for hours and watch the jungle creatures live their lives in plain sight, them spying on you as you investigate them.

The swimming pool is approximately 25 feet in length, so using it to do short laps is a healthy exercise option. There is also a built-in barbeque on the pool deck that’s ideal for grilling fresh fish, streaks and vegetables. The fish you can purchase here is some of the best in the world, with locals regularly hooking into snapper, tuna and mahi-mahi, and selling it fresh off the line at select locations. For added outdoor convenience, there’s an enclosed, all-wood shower around the corner from the pool.

From the coastal highway, Casa Alaska is about 10 minutes into the community of Escaleras on a dirt road. A solid 4x4 vehicle is required to access the road and property. The nearest bar and restaurant, Bar Jolly Roger, is less than a 5-minute drive from the front door. Bar Jolly Roger is a local hotspot for wings, burgers, draft beer and live music. You’ll love having the convenience of this restaurant on the mountainside.

Beaches, grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies and banks are all located within a 20-minute drive of Casa Alaska. The location of the home is very central, being situated almost directly in-between the towns of Dominical to the north and Uvita to the south, so getting around is a cinch.

If you long for privacy, warm weather, incredible beaches, modern amenities and the raw beauty of the Costa Rican jungle, then Casa Alaska is a stunning vacation villa that awaits your arrival.

Private cooking in your villa is available upon reservation.

Drive Times, Airport and Car Rental

• The closest beach is a 5-minute drive from the villa. There are many other beaches just a few extra minutes away in either direction, north or south.

• The closest regional airport is in Quepos and is a 40-minute drive from the villa.

• The international airport in San Jose is a 3 1/2-hour drive to the villa.

• You will need to rent a 4x4 vehicle. We have a reputable car rental agency based in Dominical that we use for many of our clients. We can assist you with booking a vehicle if you’d like.

Outdoor Activities

Southern Pacific Costa Rica is a hotbed for outdoor activity all year long. In the Dominical area, there are incredible beaches for surfing, stand-up paddling, kayaking and sunbathing. There are beaches with big waves (Dominical), medium waves (Playa Hermosa) and gentle waves (Dominicalito). Marino Ballena National Park and Playa Ventanas to the south are some of the most beautiful, pristine and uncrowded stretches of sand in the world. And did we mention the ocean water is always in the mid-80s! It’s warmer than bathwater!

In addition to the world-class beaches, there are numerous local waterfalls to explore, including the famous Nauyaca Waterfalls, an incredible double falls with large swimming area. Other popular outdoor activities include:

• Zip Lining, ATV Adventures, River Rafting Trips

• Inshore & Offshore Fishing Charters, Bird Watching

• Nature Hikes, Snorkeling or Scuba Diving at Cano Island

• Whale Watching Boats, Waterfall Rappelling & Horseback Rides

Local Restaurants & Services

There is a unique selection of restaurants close to the villa that offer a variety of cuisine ranging from Costa Rican meals to international flavors, many featuring ocean views or intimate dinning setups. We can assist you with choosing these and have a guest book of all the best restaurants in the area. Or, if you want a romantic dinner cooked at the villa, we can arrange that as well.

We also offer in-home massages that are available by appointment, as well as chef services for afternoon and evening meals.

Guests should be aware that roads in Costa Rica are often unpaved and a four-wheel drive, 6 cylinder vehicle is definitely required for getting from place to place and is essential to access this property.

Wildlife hotspot

  • 5 of 5

My family and I, including my 2 sons, wife and mother in law all had the time of our lives at Casa Alaska. Woken up by howler monkeys, cappuchins and coatis regularly. Not a place if you're not a fan of bugs. 6 inch grasshoppers amongst some giants.

Plenty of toucans, aracaris, various humming birds, agoutis, opossums, frogs, eagles, vultures, crested guans, golden orb spiders and countless butterflies. The drive up the mountainside was always fun and requires a 4x4.

And then there is the beautiful peace and tranquillity. Incredible views of the Pacific including a spectacular view of the whale's tail as you leave the house.

Stores are convenient and have all you will need. Yougethere staff are fantastic. Gina was wonderful plus the cleaner Yolene and Martin the pool guy were lovely.

Beaches are incredible. Our personal favourite was Matapalo . Just wow!

Manuel Antonio park was great. Better than Corcovado for us. Corcovado cost us over $600 but we literally saw far more in our garden at Casa Alaska.

Would recommend Jolly Roger for fun and La Parcela for fish and a truly unique setting.

In summary, the house was perfect and I feel so lucky to have spent 2 weeks of my life there. Unforgettable!!

Tranquil setting high over the ocean

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Casa Alaska for a week from 2-24-18 to 3-3-18. The house is located high up on the hillside (elevation 1430 feet) over-looking the Pacific Ocean midway between Dominical and Uvita. It was one of the most peaceful and tranquil weeks of our lives. We slept with the windows and door to the bedroom open every night - with cool mountain air and gentle insect sounds coaxing is to sleep. The bed was very comfortable for us - king, with a firm mattress. We spent a lot of time AT the house, but very little time IN the house - apart from sleeping. What we really enjoyed about the house, though, was its general location, the patio and infinity pool, and all of the wildlife we could see right from the patio.

There is a large stand of flowering Porterweed behind the pool. and it was a constant source of tropical butterflies. There were brilliant blue morpho butterflies passing through everyday. We saw toucans, aracari's, crested gauns, various tanagers, and plenty of other birds right there on the property, or a just by walking a few hundred yards up the driveway and out the approach road. A group of howler monkeys passed through the trees one afternoon - with babies, and we got to see and hear them howl at a passing plane.

The house was a comfortable place to stay - well-appointed. There was plenty of hot water for showers, and the tap water was clean, and had no odor - we had no trouble with the drinking water. The showers are a little funky - you can't set the temperature without being in them. There is a house keeper that stops by twice a week, and did a great job - even washed our clothes, and her husband washed our rental car at the end of the week. They earned a very generous tip from us.

The setting is so incredibly tranquil - you can barely tell there are any other houses around once you are at the house. The weather was perfect - mid-60's at night, low to mid-80's during the day - plenty of shade around the pool, except for about 2 hours in the mid afternoon.

It is about 8-10 minute drive to the coastal highway - and you will definitely a 4x4 to get up the road - the first half is unpaved, although well-maintained. The second half is concrete, until you get to the road back to the house, where it is dirt again. The driveway is STEEP down to the house.

There are great local restaurants close by in Dominical and Uvita - and numerous beaches, too.

This was a great place to stay - very private and peaceful.

Very Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I and another couple stayed at Casa Alaska in February of 2018. We have been going to Costa Rica the Dominical area for the past 10 years. We have rented numerous homes and always been very satisfied. This was not the case with Casa Alaska. The first disappointment was it is advertised with an "Ocean View". Sure you could see the ocean through a thick bunch of trees and jungle, it should be called a "limited" at best ocean view. One of the bedrooms had a very strong mildew smell. We were constantly cleaning leaves out of the pool due to all the trees. The grill was nice but one of the burners did not work. The bedroom layout worked well for 2 couples however there was not enough seating area inside for 4 people to gather. The shower in the bathroom sprayed water all over the floor so we ended up using the outside shower. After the first night we contacted the management company and asked if we could be relocated to an other property that better suited us and they were not able to help us. No one ever checked in with us to see how we were doing or if they could resolve any of our concerns. We love the Dominical area and all that it has to offer but will not be returning to Casa Alaska.

Owner's Response: Casa Alaska has multiple 5-star reviews, including from a different guest just two weeks prior, and the property management team always strives to make sure each and every guest has an incredible vacation experience. That will not change due to one unreasonable visitor. Regarding this guests review: It was discovered this guest had family member living full time in Costa Rica and was a scam to demand to be put into a rental home next to his family member that cost more than twice as much as the villa they had rented. Please read the other guests reviews, all have been very happy at Casa Alaska.

We loved this house!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 5 day and it was beyond relaxing. The house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The bed was big and super comfortable. The house is completely surrounded by trees that always had an amazing variety of birds including Tucans. We also saw tons of butterflies and Howler and Capuchin monkeys. The house is a short distance up the road from the Jolly Roger which has the best sun set dining in the area. We plan to build in Costa Rica in a few years and we loved this house so much that we plan to build something exactly like it. It is truly a gem in Dominical.

Very nice home, beautiful location, helpful management. Felt safe, comfortable and enjoyed every minute of it. Monkey's put on a morning and evening show. Great Vacation and so much nicer than staying in a hotel!

Stayed for 9 nights

  • 4 of 5

I'll start by saying the villa is exactly what you see. It is in the rainforest so you do get howler monkeys to the villa. We did experience a few issues while we were there though. First the internet signal is not very good. Several times we tried to use it but it took along time to receive a decent signal. Secondly the utensils that are supplied were bought at a dollar store I believe because the second you apply pressure they fold in your hand. The kitchen tap was not situated properly when installed because you could not use the faucet on the left sink. Even though there was a BBQ it had no lid and the third burner doesn't work.

We had water issues on the third day with no pressure and no hot water. This problem was resolved within a day.

Even with these issues we made the most of it and Gina was very nice and helpful with these issues.

As well it is conveyed that there is a Ocean view but it is obstructed. There is only a small portion between the trees to see the ocean.

We probably would not stay at the same villa but we would stay in the same area again.
