The John Bruff House Is a 2 Bedroom Cottage in the Heart of Historic St Michaels
About Thomas Byrne
I have been enjoying St. Michaels and restoring historic houses there since 1991.
Thomas Byrne purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Thomas Byrne chose Saint Michaels
I purchased this remarkable property because of the historic character of the house and the area, the wonderful yard, the remarkable harbor and river views, the location on the Town park and harbor, and the convenience (walking distance) to everything in St. Michaels. It is also adjacent to other houses I have restored.
What makes this Cottage unique
The harbor and river views, the location on the Town park, the walking distance to everything in St. Michaels, the architecture and character, the history, the yard, all make this an extraordinary property.

Historic charm with harbor view
Thoughtfully renovated old house in historic district of St Michaels, MD, has a superb location facing the harbor and the town park. The interior furnishings contribute to the period feeling, as do the artistic accessories. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking. The historic structure has dictated some compromises in convenience, with the only full bathroom downstairs, and just a toilet and sink in each of the two upper floor bedrooms, which are reached by narrow winding stairs that would be difficult for less agile guests. The air-conditioning was effective during the very hot weather of our stay, and the reserved parking was convenient. One suggestion for the owner is to provide toiletries and ground coffee supplies for 2-3 days. It would be very welcome for shorter term renters traveling from a distance. Overall, the house is a very charming and convenient base for enjoying St Michaels.
Great location - we walked to everything and took a couple nice drives. Nicely decorated - we felt relaxed and comfortable. Friendly neighbors - provided some recommendations of their favorite dishes. Helpful host - provided us a parking alternative as we arrived well before checkin to attend the Watermans Festival. Overall great experience, we would stay here again. Did we mention - great location!
This Charming house is in a great location, very congenial property owner, very accommodating. Our weekend getaway was so relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely rent this house again.
Heart of Saint Michaels
The location of this home is wonderful, and the outside is incredibly charming. I am disappointed in the level of cleanliness. We definitely had clean bedding and clean towels, but the home itself did not seem thoroughly cleaned - bathroom was not clean, floors throughout home covered in long dog hair, wet/dirty towels under kitchen sink. For the price we paid it’s hard to look past these details.
I spoke with the cleaning woman and the "wet dirty towels" under the sink was a rag the she had used in cleaning. She will no longer be leaving a cleaning rag there. The prior tenant unfortunately left the house with an abundance of dog hair. She is sorry that she missed some of the hairs. A call to me upon finding dog hair would have resulted in the cleaner returning to the house to correct the issue.
great location, great property manager/owner...welcoming property, WE would rent this property again, and hope to do so!!!
Fantastic location, comfortable interior space, nice yard and porch. The front bedroom staircase may be challenging for some but it’s a nice room. Other bedroom stairs are more typical. Great restaurants and shopping right around the corner. Harbor views are amazing!!!
