Great location and apartment
We took a risk staying in a place with zero reviews, which we usually don't do, but I'm glad we did! The apartment was beautiful, the location was great, right in Alfama and within 20 minute walking distance to a lot of sights and restaurants, with a lot of restaurants within a couple minutes. Everything worked fine in the apartment, and it was nicely decorated. The owners were even kind enough to provide a pack and play for our baby. Our friendly host met us at the apartment and showed us around. They even left us a bottle of wine! The huge windows let in wonderful fresh breezes and sun. There is no laundry in the apartment, but there is a laundry facility just down the road. Tiny grocery stores are within a few minutes, but a larger one is about a 15-20 minute walk (in the train station). All the train stations for day trips and the closet subway stops are about a 15-20 minute walk. We never had trouble getting an Uber close to the apartment, and there are also a lot of taxis around. There is a restaurant with fado many nights a week directly below the apartment, so we enjoyed falling asleep to the strains of fado directly below the bedroom. (light sleepers might want to bring earplugs, both for the fado and the pitter patter of feet from the apartment above :) ) Our only minor issues were the internet is very slow and spotty - fine for checking email, but not for doing work, which we unfortunately have to do even on vacations. Also, extra towels would have been really nice as we had only two bath and two hand towels for three people in our 9 day stay. Overall I would highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Lisbon!
Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo river. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning fountains or baths. It includes the freguesias (parishes) of São Miguel, Santo Estêvão, São Vicente de Fora and part of two streets of Freguesia da Sé: Rua do Barão and Rua São João da Praça. It contains many important historical attractions, with many Fado bars and restaurants. The great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake did not destroy the Alfama, which has remained a picturesque labyrinth of narrow streets and small squares. Lately the neighbourhood has been invigorated with the renovation of the old houses and new restaurants where Fado—Portuguese typical melancholy music—can be enjoyed.
