About the property

Beautiful countryside view, antique double bed, vaulted cellar bathroom.

If you're looking for a home from home this cottage is for you. Nestled in the heart of the village of Hinchliffe Mill, this cottage is the lower half of a pair of cosy, quirky weavers cottages with original beams, exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings. It is surrounded by rolling green hills, made famous in the comedy series The Last of the Summer Wine, open countryside, overlooking the river Holme, which can be heard babbling by, and the mill pond - a haven to birds and wildlife, your spoiled for choice for walks and cycle rides. Located at the foot of Holme Moss the Cote De Holme Moss Grand Depart of the Tour De france is only metres from your door, a fishing spot only a 2 minute walk away and with numerous reservoirs, woodland, moorland and riverside walks, and a fishing spot only a 2 minute walk away, this cottage has all you need for a Yorkshire countryside break. Not only that, all your needs are at your doorstep with 2 pubs, one with its own micro-brewery and restaurant, a village store and Holmfirth vineyard which serves breakfast, english wines, afternoon teas and an la carte menu, all within a 5 minute walk.

Holmfirth centre is a short, flat 1 mile stroll away or, if you prefer, the bus stop to Holmfirth, outlying villages and Huddersfield to connect with train services, is less than 100 yds away, the local minibus stops on the lane at the rear of the cottage to take you to Holmfirth centre and local villages, and local taxis are competitively priced and readily available. The close proximity to Holmfirth centre and it's transport links makes this an ideal base for guests wishing to visit events at the Picturedrome, The Holmfirth Festival of Folk, Holmfirth Food Festival, The Art Festival, Film Festival and other local events and we offer a minimum 2 night stay instead of 3 so you can stay over without breaking the bank.

There is a selection of DVD's and boxed games if you prefer a quiet night in and some xbox games to keep the kids happy. There is also a picnic basket, picnic blanket and ice packs available for you to dine out in the beautiful surrounding countryside.

A fireguard, safety gate, high chair and travel cot is available by arrangement.

*Please be aware that the bathroom is situated within a vaulted cellar and although inside the room is full height the doorway is less than 5ft in height and may not be suitable for those less mobile.

*This cottage is, what is known locally as, an 'underdwelling', therefore, everyday noise from the cottage above is possible.

Although we do not offer private parking there is easy on street parking available.

About The Owner

I have lived in Holmfirth most of my life and grew up in our family home in the cottage above. This cottage has been in the family too since then but I have only recently decided to let it out as a holiday home after I found myself staring out of the windows at the view everytime I went up there. It's too beautiful to not share!

I live a couple of miles away in Holmfirth with my husband Darrell and have 3 sons and we aim to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible and look forward to welcoming you to our cosy cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Besides the stunning views the cottage has original beams, exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings in the cellars, one of which houses the bathroom. The bedrooms are located on the ground floor so that the lounge upstairs benefits from the glorious views.

The Old Wash Kitchen. Cosy, quirky, Holmfirth holiday cottage for 4.

A comfortable, clean and well fitted out little house with loads of character.

  • 5 of 5

The Old Wash Kitchen is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. The whole place was immaculately clean and in an excellent state of repair. Although it looks picturesquely small from outside, it is surprisingly spacious within. There is lots of room for four and the furniture in the lounge and kitchen/diner is very comfortable. The view of the hills from the lounge is beautiful and the sound of the river just outside is lovely. The bedrooms are snug, but the beds are comfortable and the bedding of good quality. The bathroom has an interestingly hobbit-sized entrance, but inside there is a full sized bath as well as a washbasin and shower cubicle. The water is lovely and hot and plenty of fluffy, white towels were provided.

The house is located in a quiet lane of attractively interesting stone cottages and there is plenty of parking space outside. The village shop is a two minutes away and there are two pubs and a tea room in easy walking distance. Just behind the house there is a lovely riverside walk that passes an old mill building and continues into Holmfirth.

Clare, the owner answered all emails in a friendly and efficient way and her arrival and access instructions were clear and comprehensive. The welcome pack of supplies was especially kind, with eggs, bread, milk, butter, tea, coffee and sugar all waiting for us. I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Wash Kitchen as place to stay and will certainly return in the future!

Enjoyable

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable bed, well equipped quiet property, ideally placed to enjoy this breath taking area and the weather was glorious....what more could we want! My only wish would be somewhere to put my early morning cup of tea on my side of the bed.

Pretty little cottage.

  • 4 of 5

A bit quirky especially getting into the bathroom. The welcome pack (bread, real butter, jam and eggs) went down a treat!!!

The only slight downside, according to the 16yr old was there was only one mirror in the whole place!!

Great character property

  • 5 of 5

Our six-year-old described this as a higgledy-piggledy house due to the downstairs bedrooms but it's much more than that. In a quite location with the sound of the water rushing by: this was a super spot for our weekend break. Holmfirth is walking distance and the house itself is warm, cosy and well kept. If we're returning to the area we'll definitely stay here again!
