Overview

About the property

Ocean Front Pajaro Dunes At Pelican Point 2nd Level 1 Bedroom/1 Bathroom Condo

You just may experience Shangri La in this remodeled second level condo located in a private, gated community between Santa Cruz and Monterey, overlooking an immaculate beach. Its southern exposure provides natural light and warmth year round.

The second floor allows full enjoyment, with no obstruction from dunes or grasses, as with some units. Pelican 37 juts out, affording privacy from the neighboring units, which are recessed to our right and left. Because the condo's location is at the end of the Point, the beach is often without another person in sight, except for early morning walkers along the shore.

Relaxing and restful, the condo is perfect for those wanting to ‘get away from it all’. Tennis courts, basketball, sand volleyball and a remarkable Bird Sanctuary are available within the gated community.

Step onto the deck to enjoy the sounds of crashing waves or view the spectacular sunrises or sunsets; better yet, put your feet up and enjoy the view from the comfort of the great room.

The condo also meets the needs of those who want to be more active because of its proximity to the attractions of Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz; e.g. whale watching, surfing, kayaking, wine tasting and gourmet dining.

A fully equipped kitchen will please those who chose to 'eat in'; nearby eateries will please those who chose to 'eat out.'

About Jane Moses

We are a retired teacher and public health nurse, living near the condo, in the Mission town of San Juan Bautista. 37 Pelican Point is a long desired vacation spot for us, after renting various houses and condos there at Pajaro Dunes for many years. Less than a half hour drive for us, it's the perfect spot to enjoy, without much planning or long drives.

Jane Moses purchased this condo in 2015

Why Jane Moses chose Watsonville

We love being at the ocean, regardless of the season, and the security at a gated community with staff available 24 hours, and safety features like an on site fire department, were and are very appealing. The proximity to our home was especially appealing, as we hope to continue 'aging in place'. With Monterey and Santa Cruz equidistant, it is the ideal location for us, and attractive to many visitors to California.

What makes this condo unique

The full ocean views from inside the condo, as well as the patio outside, were an immediate draw for us, especially since the second floor allows full enjoyment, with no obstruction from dunes or grasses, as with some units. Pelican 37 juts out, affording privacy from the neighboring units, which are recessed to our right and left. Because we are at the end of the Point, the beach is often without another person in sight, except for early morning walkers along the shore. We love it!

A Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Having not had a true vacation for a while, and it being one to celebrate some major life milestones for both myself and my 14-year old daughter, I had high expectations. Spent hours looking for just the right place, and I found it.

At the farthest end of the beach at this ocean-front property, you would almost think there was not another human around. Kitchen fully equipped, amenities thoughtfully provided, and a view that is priceless!

For the most part, with the windows and slider open, all we ever heard was the sound of the wind blowing and the waves crashing onto the shore. Residents and other guests are respectful at night and it's incredibly quiet at all times of the day/night.

Just for a price comparison...I spent the same amount on this condo as I would have for a hotel with two queen beds in Santa Cruz that lacked a fridge, or even a microwave, and certainly not a view like you will have at Shangri La. Additionally, the property owners were incredibly gracious and accommodating, checking in to be sure we had everything we needed. I will be back!

Shangri La is perfectly named!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our own little slice of paradise for a a long anniversary weekend at Shangri La. Great, cordial response and support from our host, best amenities of any place we've stayed, and so much to do (or not-staying is was great, too) in the Monterey bay area. Wonderful ocean views, quiet location and peacefully tucked away at Pajaro Dunes. Have stayed at other properties here, but this will be our "go-to" getaway from now on. We would definitely recommend this to all, including close friends and family, and look forward to returning ourselves.

Perfect.

  • 5 of 5

My teenage son and I stayed here for a couple days to get away from the Central Valley for a few days. My son wrote music and I did my beloved writing. Shangri La was perfect. Perfect. You’re right on the ocean. We could hear the waves all the time. Lots of good eating places in Watsonville.

Stunning location, well equipped condo at Pelican Point

  • 5 of 5

The personal touch is everywhere, from the phone call to make sure we could get access earlier than the normal check in time, to a well equipped kitchen with condiments . There is total privacy of a beach view looking south towards Moss Landing. We had comfortable beds, and thick towels and reclining chairs just to rest and watch the waves or the sparkling lights across the bay. This is a prefect small condo for a couple or small group (sleeps 4) for complete peace and quiet, or as a jumping off point for many adventures in the region.

What an amazing view of the Pacific!!!

  • 5 of 5

Anyone wishing to have a room with a view is wise to give a long look at this place! The sitting room with big windows looking on to the deck and out at the beach are the highlight! What makes this especially incredible is the positioning of this unit: it is the farthest out, so no one is looking in from another unit and there is only beach in front and to the left for miles!!!! Sitting and listening to the sound of the waves crashing is just what we needed to relax!

We wanted to take in as much as we could, so we drove to Monterey one day and took a whale watching trip with Princess Monterey Whale watching. We upgraded to the upper deck and had amazing views of the humpback, porpoise, seal, and sea lion! We went back that way another day and drove the 17 mile road at Pebble beach. We had lunch in Carmel and then drove to Big Sur. What an ingredible day of beauty!!! Another day we went to the Elkhorn Slough and took a nature walk and a quick drive through Moss Landing where we saw seals and otters. Looking back, I wish we had just done our whale watching from Moss Landing and skipped the traffic of Fishermans Warf in Monterey. After all, the area we ending up spotting all the whales was over by Moss Landing anyway. Then, we could have come back and had a fire on the beach and dinner in the Condo. Nevertheless, we did take a full day at the condo except venturing out to grab lunch in Watsonville. We ate at Cilantros. We couldn’t get enough of their fresh chips and Salsa. The taco and enchiladas we Amazing; the best food we ate our whole trip ( we are still smiling!!!)

Back to the condo: It was small, but good for two! The shower was awesome and there was nice shampoo and soap to use. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a regular coffee maker and coffee, filters, and sugar for us to use. We also appreciated that there were baggies to use as well.

The blankets were awesome for keeping warms while sitting and listening to the ocean in the am and pm.

The beach locker is well equipped with chairs, an umbrella, and blanket.

Put a fire on the beach on your “to do” list! Had we had more time, we certainly would have done it!

Only two things for you to consider:

1. If you can not maneuver any steps, this will not work for you. There is a ramp but a series of 3 steps up then 3 down to get to the actual unit.

2. The bed is soft and probably needs to be replaced as we rolled into each other often.

This place is awesome! So grateful!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so very much for the comprehensive review....you surely made the most of your four days! One suggestion gave us a chuckle - we purchased the mattress just 14 months ago, and a couple of guests have found it too firm, rather than soft. As with coffee, I think many of us have definite preferences re: a mattress :-). I hope it was your only disappointment. Thanks much for choosing our condo for part of your vacation! Jane
