Overview

About the property

An atmospheric chalet for up to 12 people with stunning views and a hot tub.

We chose the chalet for its views and then in 2017 undertook a complete renovation of the property, with a design goal to create a beautiful home full of creature comforts. The five en-suite bedrooms and the bunk den sleep 12 comfortably. Two of the en-suite rooms can be set up with 2 single beds or a king size bed. Each room is individual and has its own benefits.

The chalet is perfectly set up for two families or for a group of 10 adults with plenty of privacy. It can sleep 12 in beds but 2 would be in the bunk den - the beds are comfortable full size single beds.

The chalet has three floors and the accommodation is split over the top and bottom floors and they are sound proofed from each other.

On the lower ground floor there are three en-suite bedrooms with views and a terrace with a hot tub accessed from two of the bedrooms. The front door opens onto the middle floor which has a large open plan living and dining area for 12 with log burner; kitchen including a breakfast bar; a separate cinema room with an X-box (a child magnet!); access to the garden and two balconies with further seating for relaxing and dining and further views. The upper floor consists of 2 en-suite bedrooms (including one extremely large bedroom with views) and a very cosy bunk den (or coin de montagne to sleep two).

In addition to a selection of board games there is table football in the boot room (which keeps everyone entertained whilst getting ready for skiing) and a table tennis table. There are sledges and shovels on hand for building snowmen, igloos and sledge runs in the garden! On a practical note the kitchen has two dishwashers and two Miele ovens. Off the kitchen is a larder / laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and drying rack. There are heated cupboards for drying damp clothes and keeping items warm on both the lower ground and ground levels.

In order to get to the chalet you will need to drive up a mountain road. If it snows overnight the road is cleared by 8am as a rule (the mayor lives in the next road which has its perks!). That said you will need snow chains or winter tyres to drive safely. It will take you 5 -10 minutes to get to Les Gets. There are several car parks around the village including a free car park by Les Perrieres lift and an underground car park next to the main Chavanne lift. There is also a free bus service that operates every half hour into and around Les Gets which is a seven minute walk from the chalet. A little train drives around between the two sides of the mountain offering free rides. There is also a convenient night bus service that operates in Les Gets for around €2 per head (children are free) which you phone like a regular taxi and it will take you home. More detailed information and everything you may wish to know can be found on the Les Gets Office du Tourisme website or in person at the office in the centre of the village.

We are offering the chalet as a self catering property for privacy and flexibility with dining. However you may wish to contact Chalet Kitchen for your whole stay or for occasional evening meals at the chalet. They offer a weekly menu and their meals are cooked and delivered daily and you will just need to warm them up in the oven. They also offer breakfast deliveries if the idea of popping to the bakery to choose your croissants is too much to bear! Click here to access their website – www.chaletkitchen.com. There are two supermarkets in Les Gets plus a large number of patisseries, two butchers, lots of cheese and local produce shops and a weekly market. There are also endless restaurants in the village and on the mountains!

About Amanda Coldridge

Firstly I am not a technical genius which is why my picture is sideways and i have spent 5 minutes trying to rotate it and life is just too short to worry any more. Fortunately I love interiors, colour and texture and can spend hours thinking and deliberating about this which hopefully you will enjoy if you rent our chalet!

Why Amanda Coldridge chose Les Gets

The location is special. I am not a keen skier unlike the rest of the family so I chose a property that had plenty of sun during the day and was open plan with the best views I could find as I knew that I would spend plenty of time at home whilst we spent the winter in the mountains. I haven't been disappointed and we have painstakingly renovated the chalet over the past two years which has been a really enjoyable process in the main and we are ready to share it! It has been wonderful in the summer too which is an unexpected treat.

What makes this chalet unique

The views and the indoor / outdoor space which flows well in both summer and winter. The large roof overhang means you can be catching the sun on a snow free terrace whilst the ground around you is thick with snow and then you can wonder inside to sit by the fire. The hot tub is on one of three terraces and is not overlooked. (I mention this as we once rented a chalet where the hot tub was set on the edge of a communal car park!).

Just stunning

  • 5 of 5

How to pen a review about the most perfect property? Words like magical, stunning, fabulous, majestic come to mind but don't do it justice - perfect is just that. We have stayed at several high-end chalets through companies like Scott Dunn but this place was head an shoulders above all of them. The clear attention to detail and level of comfort was second to none. This was not so much a ski chalet but a winter home (perhaps the clue was in the name) with nothing to want for. An abiding memory was sitting in the large hot tub before dawn as a vast tract of starlit sky enlightened itself moment by moment as the light of dawn displaced the dark and a perfect day's skiing beckoned. Sitting there at the end of day was equally magical as the sun disappeared down the valley. The chalet sits on the side of the hill and affords glorious views. This means that a car is needed but an integral garage means that any vehicle is kept warm overnight and the car park at the bottom of the Perriere chair is only 5 minutes away at the bottom of the hill and, being used to skiing in North America, this was no big deal - and worth it for the stunning views. Will I return? In an instant - but even if I don't, this trip will live long in the memory, if not indefinitely.

Wonderfully comfortable, well-designed ski chalet

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderfully relaxing and luxurious week . The house is very comfortable with great beds, linen and bathrooms. The design and flow of the house is very thought-through with spaces to be together, but also for kids to have fun: movie room, jacuzi and fussball/football table etc.

Lots of charm in spite of having all the mod cons.

The views are beautiful. Everything is run very professionally and smoothly. We would go back in a flash. We loved it .

Beautiful chalet in a stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

We went out after Christmas with our slightly older kids (9 & 16). The chalet is gorgeous and there's lots of space for kids and adults.

At the property - there's a games room for kids and table football. From a mum's perspective there are super-practical heated cupboards for all the wet boots, gloves, coats etc. There are shutters on every room so it's easy to get pitch black for sleeping babies/kids. The kitchen has two ovens and two dishwashers which is great.

The location - the chalet is half way up a mountain so make sure you have snow chains that fit the vehicle (Hertz rentals gave us ones that were too small and we had a LOT of snow). You don't have to drive if you don't want to as there's a 10 min walk to catch a bus that takes you right into the centre of Les Gets. It's on a loop so is very frequent.

The town - Les Gets has loads of ski shops and places to eat.

My advice - take slippers and dressing gowns so you can get out to the amazing hot tub - perfect after a day out.

Beautiful scenery.

Loved it!

Cannot speak highly enough of this ski lodge

  • 5 of 5

Maison D'hiver is truly like something out of James Bond movie as soon as you enter this ski lodge you know you are in the lap of luxury. Every room has been well thought out and perfectly reflects its environment. Loved the fur wall in one of the bedrooms. It is very clean and well maintained and the owners provided excellent customer service as well as giving us great restaurant tips. The lodge is a short drive away from the pistes and the main village in Les Gets which has a fabulous array of shops and boutiques. We found it very easy to hire ski equipment in the village. When we returned back to the lodge after a day of skiing it was a real treat to sink into the outside Jacuzzi and just enjoy the fabulous views. Will definitely be recommending this property to friends and family.

Car: recommended

Maison D’Hiver is a 5 minute drive to the nearest ski lift / car park in Les Gets. The chalet is a mile up the first mountain road you reach when you arrive in Les Gets. We recommend you have a car if you rent this chalet but we have had guests who are happy to rely on the bus to get into the village which operates no matter what the road conditions are. The bus service is free and operates every half hour into and around Les Gets. It is a seven minute walk from the chalet or with heavy snow you can ski down the road!

There are several car parks around the village including an underground car park next to the Chavannes lift.
