Villa Agni is a lovely stone detached villa that promises to make you feel the unspoilt Cretan nature and tradition.
The house has 4 air conditioned bedrooms, all decorated in style, with elegant curtains, hand-made mirrors, beautifully painted walls as well as spacious closets. To its fully equipped kitchen(microwave oven, coffee machine, toaster, electric kettle, etc.) you will find an old wooden fireplace. To the upper floor(apart from the one bedroom and the kitchen) there is also a bathroom(with shower) and a beautifully decorated living room with a lot of windows that offer a great view either of the mountains and the gorge either of the front veranda and courtyard.
Downstairs, there are the three other bedrooms and one bathroom with shower.
Staying to that house with its ceiling made by old beams and with the rocks inside the bedroom walls it's an experience that you will not forget.
The outdoor part of the house: The outdoor part of the house spreads into 4 acres of terraces, with dense vegetation, a kiosk, paved courtyards, hidden corners and a swimming pool with a view of the mountains and the lush green landscape.
You can enjoy your coffee or dinner to the kiosk that is placed just above the swimming pool and has a view to the gorge and the mountain.
You will definitely feel the magic of Cretan nature.
In the gardens you can find a lot of corners for relaxation and calm as well as organic grown vegetables for your salads, that will give you a small taste of the gifts of the Cretan land.
There is also a BBQ area as well as parking area.
You can take a walk outside through the friendly village and admire the unique architecture of the place as well as the nature.

Villa Agni is a charming stone house in the small village Kastri about 20 mins drive from Perama. The house has been lovingly restored using authentic materials and for holidaymakers looking for relaxation in authentic surroundings Agni is the perfect place. The views from the house are spectacular and the pool and pool terrace look out over a valley and hills beyond.
The house is immaculately clean and the property is very well maintained. We had been left the most wonderful welcome hamper, including a decanter of local wine and fantastic selection of fruit. Nothing is too much trouble for the hospitable owners, who willingly come at any time to attend to anything when needed.
Perama, a town so far largely untouched by tourism, is good for food shopping, having several good supermarkets, a couple of excellent butchers, good greengrocers and an excellent baker and patisserie. The charming seaside village Panormos is about half an hour's drive from Kastri and is very pleasant for swimming. There are also good restaurants and bars.
There are many beautiful villages to explore in the area, and Rethymnon, easily reachable from Kastri, is a lovely town with lots to see.
We would recommend Village Agni to anyone seeking peace, quiet and relaxation in the heart of Crete. We absolutely love it.
Our second time at Villa Agni and our holiday was as great as the last time. Villa Agni has a number of outdoor seating areas and it is always possible to find sun or shade. Tremendous views over the gorge to the mountains from the pool. Villa has everything needed for a relaxing holiday away from it all. Antonis is a generous host providing a much appreciated welcome pack of essentials on arrival. The villa was spotlessly clean and gardens and pool well looked after. We look forward to returning for a third time
After a disastrous 24 hours elsewhere on Crete, after which we walked out of the villa we had booked, we luckily made contact with the delightful Antonios Hatzidakis, who immediately came to our rescue. He bent over backwards to help us, allowing us to stay in Villa Aretheusa while Villa Agni was made ready for us, and going well out of his way to make sure that all our needs were met. I cannot speak too highly of his helpfulness, throughout our stay in Crete.
Villa Agni is very special. It is located about 20 minutes back from the coast, in the high and unspoilt village of Kastri, about half way up the Mt Ida range. Although it takes about 15 mins on distinctly rural roads to reach a taverna or supermarket, this minor disadvantage is easily outweighed by the many advantages of quietness, privacy and seeing the real Crete. And of course Kastri is much nearer some of the inland attractions, such as the Amari Valley and Moni Arkhadiou, and the scenic inland routes with their breathtaking views. A car is essential.
An architect, Mr Hatzidakis has turned his characterful family home into a superbly well appointed villa, that was spotlessly clean and tidy. The upper part of the house (with kitchen, dining room, sitting room, one bedroom with shower/loo and outside dining area) is adjoining but physically separate from the lower part, which has the remaining bedrooms, shower etc. A few outside steps, within the villa's fenced and gated grounds, join the two. The large swimming pool is very cleverly built out from the side of a slope, with nothing beneath it but olive trees and grazing sheep and goats. Trees are planted so that it is not overlooked. Above the swimming pool is another, arboured and private, dining area which shares the poolside's lovely view towards hills.
We loved Villa Agni. We happened to recognise one of the previous guests in the book as a former UK ambassador to Greece, and it says much that he chose this quiet, rural but luxurious villa. For those who are prepared to be away from the fleshspots (but within 20 mins of good tavernas etc) we recommend it unreservedly.
The villa is managed by the Hatzidakis family and out of all the villas I have stayed in over the years this is the best managed with George taking a personal interest in the maintenance of the villa during our 2 weeks; it is kept clean and stocked with clean towels twice a week and the villa itself is beautifully appointed throughout. I was initially concerned with the poor response time to queries, but this was no reflection on the villa itself upon arrival; it actually looks better than the photos! We were also greeted with a lovely welcome pack and a home cooked meal as we arrived late at night.
Having said all this, the only negative (which may be a positive to some) is that the villa is slightly out of the way up a winding road that in some areas only one car can past; so the drives home at night can be a little tense if you are not use to it. This does mean though that you get the views and the sound of goats each day.
The villa itself is without doubt a five star if you are willing to compromise on the drive.
it was a perfect place to stay, everything was beautiful, the location, the facilities, the furniture, the garden, surrounding, the pool.......nothing to complain about!
It was really clean and well-maintained and the very nice owner provides a first-class customer service.
We would recommend this villa to our best friends and we will come back.
Villa Agni is situated in Kastri, a small village in the altitude of 360m, in the foothills of Psiloritis mountain. The village was one of the military defence centres of Crete during the Byzantine era and the Venetian occupation. A romantic traveller could easily imagine the Ancient Greek goddess Artemis being worshipped in such a house. Built on the edge of Koukoumianos gorge, it was the owner’s George Hatzidakis, birthplace. The renovation of the house finished in 1995. It is a comfortable, 150 years old house, with elements borrowed from the noble houses of its time
