Why Dave & Georgie Simpson chose Nanteuil-Auriac-de-Bourzac
We have always loved France and had many happy holidays there. Four years ago we were lucky enough to buy La Neulie as a holiday home and we spend about three months a year there, particularly in the spring and autumn. We are offering it for rent in 2019 during the summer months only.
What makes this Barn unique
We had viewed houses in France for nearly 3 years when we came across La Neulie. We had logical lists of each of our requirements for a holiday home but neither of us had listed views as important. When we viewed La Neulie we walked through the front door and straight out of the back to the terrace and both of us said wow! The views from the terrace are really amazing across the beautiful rolling countryside which in summer is full of fields of sunflowers and maize.

Gorgeous house. Well kept. Lovely outdoor space and very private. Nice comfy sofas in the lounge, enough for our group size and more! The pool was the perfect temperature and had sun basically all day. There were also sun umbrellas for shade. They even had champagne flutes! Our favourite thing was watching the sun set every evening, it was sublime. Thanks so much Georgie!
Really enjoyed our stay the property is lovely. Very well equipped with all that we needed. Only suggestion would be a shower in the main bathroom too as the one in the ensuite was preferred to using the bath in the heat.
Thank you, we're really pleased that you had a good holiday and thanks for your comment, we'll give that some thought.
Superbly renovated barn in lovely countryside
If you are after peace and tranquility (other than a few tractors working) in a rural spot you will love it at La Neulie! The barn has been tastefully converted and the owners have provided everything one could require for a comfortable and enjoyable holiday. We loved the pool and the grounds with great views and the little town 10 mins drive away is delightful and the shop there sells almost everything! You do need a car and there are plenty of places within a drive to explore. Evenings watching the sunsets and the stars with a glass of wine is a must! Highly recommend.for country lovers.
Thank you Sue for such lovely words and to you, Alan, Lynda and Steve for being such exceptional guests in the face of the recent unseasonal storm. Dave was delighted to have met you all.

We couldn't praise La Nuelie highly enough, Dave & Georgie have presented a wonderful property, very well maintained, well furnished, and fitted out with all 'mod-cons'. The house is characterful and maintains typical French country style, whilst providing modern amenities, with special reference to the pool and decking area. The setting is idyllic, quiet and secluded, great views and perfect for 'al fresco' living. But not so remote to be within easy distance of places of interest, medieval villages, lively towns, great restaurants, all a short drive away.. Loved it ! Thank you. Chris & Tessa.
PS Thanks for arranging the brilliant weather too.
Thanks Chris & Tessa for such kind words. We are so very glad you had a good holiday at La Neulie. Georgie & Dave
Verteillac is a delightful and lively small town 10 minutes from the house. It offers a butcher, baker, a remarkable general store that sells everything (including lawn mowers!), ATM, newsagents, cafés, restaurants and Saturday market.
At 20 minutes away is the town of Riberac with its charming Friday morning market and restaurants, cafés and bars as well as large supermarkets.
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, listed as “one of the most beautiful villages in France” with its cobbled streets and shops and restaurants, is 25 minutes away. The river has a beach for swimming and opportunities for tennis, kayaking, canoeing , fishing, and horse-riding.
Brantome is often described as the Venice of the Dordogne with the river Dronne encircling much of the town. It offers a beautiful mix of medieval and renaissance architecture, troglodyte caves, the river with canoes for hire and formal gardens. Friday is market day and the drive from the house, which takes about 45 minutes using quiet back roads, is in itself charming.
- Kayaking and canoeing on the river Dronne from Brantome, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne or Riberac.
- River swimming at Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and lake swimming at La Jemaye, 15 minutes south of Riberac.
- The Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin offering 1800 square kilometres of walks, bike trails and horse riding. Its western edge is at Mareuil, 20 minutes away by car, from where you can enjoy walking, rambling, bird watching, hiking, cycling and horse riding.
- Golf at Pillac about 20 minutes away (9 holes and clubs can be hired); there is also an 18 hole crazy golf course in Saint Sévérin which is 15 minutes from the house.
- High tree walking at Poltrot near Aubeterre and also south of Angouleme.
- Tastings: Bergerac wine area (1:15 hours), Bordeaux wine areas (2 hours), Cognac (1 hour), Pineau tasting at Bors (15 minutes).
- Grotte de Villars 55 minutes away offers about 500m of underground cave networks scattered with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites.
- Numerous interesting chateaux and churches, as detailed in our activities guide in the house, such as the huge subterranean church in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne.
