Overview

About the property

Letter Box Cottage is a 'chocolate box' Grade II listed thatched retreat for all seasons. Curl up in front of the fire in the living room and in summer leave the front door open and look out on to the cottage garden or wander out to the private patio with its contemporary summer house and private seating area to relax for an hour or two.

From Letter Box Cottage it is easy to access both Cotswolds (Broadway, Burford, Bibury, The Slaughters, Stow-on-the-Wold and Cheltenham) as well as Shakespeare country (Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Kenilworth). The National Trust's Hidcote Manor Garden is a short walk across the fields.

The cottage has a beamed living room with open fire, beamed dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Bedroom 1 with a double bed and en-suite shower room, wash hand basin and toilet. Bedroom 2 with two single beds and a family bathroom with bath, wash hand basin and toilet.

About Julia

We live on a family farm half a mile away from Letter Box Cottage and the farm has been in the family since 1919 so as you can imagine we know quite alot about the area by now! Letter Box Cottage was bought for when we hang up our wellies but that has not happened yet ..... so enjoy it as we both do.

Julia purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Julia chose Chipping Campden

When I saw the cottage was for sale I just fell in love with it. The thatched roof with the door in the middle and windows either side just looked as if a child would draw this type of house. The Victorian letter box that is inset into the wall gave it its name. It needed very sympathetic renovation and has retained all the original features whilst having all the creature comforts.

What makes this cottage unique

Charming cottage garden, beams in most rooms, open fire and quirky fire seat and large inglenook.

Letter Box Cottage in the Cotswolds.

  • 5 of 5

The Letter Box Cottage was everything we had hoped it would be. Julia was very friendly , showing us how everything worked and giving advice on how to find all the attractions and other places which we were interested in seeing. I would definitely recommend Letter Box Cottage to anyone wanting to spend quality time in the Cotswolds.

Beautiful little cottage in a very picturesque village

Just remember to duck: I think we all hit our heads at some stage. Beautiful exposed beams, nicely restored and well appointed. Short walk to Hidcote Gardens.

Romantic, peaceful and just a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Parking was easy, the cottage was clean, comfortable and provided a dreamy home from home for us. We loved hearing the birds singing every day. The flower garden was simply beautiful and the location although not right in the village added to the peacefulness. The village has a great pub The Kings Arms which had an excellent menu. People are just so friendly all over The Cotswolds. I live in Florida and as an expatriate I crave our history and old time England and this home certainly excelled. We thank Julia for her welcoming tea tray upon our arrival. All charming and appreciated. Great memories for sure.

Charming, helpful owners on hand to help with any queries. We loved spending time sitting out on the patio in the evening with a drink while the children read or coloured in the summer house. The cottage was warm, cosy inviting & well equipped, central base for all the sights we wanted 2 visit. Located in a picturesque hamlet, such an unspoilt area.

Beautiful Cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful long weekend at Letterbox Cottage. The location is quiet, scenic but within easy driving distance of some of the larger villages and also 20 minutes into Stratford upon Avon. The cottage is quirky but well equipped. I would definitely recommend this cottage as a base for a week or weekend in the Cotswolds.

Charming cottage - very comfortable and well appointed in a beautiful quiet Cotswold village.

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky to get 5 days of glorious sunshine and made use of the summer house in the late evenings. Enjoyed walking through field of lambs to get to the beautiful National Trust gardens at Hidcote. Great food in local pubs and Chipping Campden. It was nice to know that Julia was on hand if we needed anything and she came by to ensure we had settled in ok. All in all, a very enjoyable long week-end.

Hidcote Boyce is a hamlet 3 miles from Chipping Campden known as the 'prettiest High Street in the Cotswolds'. Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon are a short drive away. Warwick Castle, Burford Wildlife Park and Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park are great days out for children. Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe and nearby Hales Abbey are recommended. Blenheim Palace in Woodstock and Woodstock itself makes for an interesting day out. This area is famous for the Arts and Crafts movement as well as delightful gardens. Each year in June Skuttlebrook Wake is held in Chipping Campden and there are also various farmers markets and events throughout the year.
