About Scott P Mayo
My name is Vivian Mayo and my husband of 40 years is Scott P Mayo. Scott and I are long time Alaskans with many tales to tell! (You may be interested in reading our survival story! www.lastfrontiermagazine ) I am proud to call myself a lifelong Alaskan! I was born in Anchorage Alaska and moved to Cantwell in 1964. Scott came to Alaska from the Midwest in 1970. He fell in love with the freedom of Alaska the moment he stepped off the plane. Scott and I married in 1975 and Have raised three wonderful children here in Cantwell. Scott worked 30 years for the State Highway Department retiring in 2008. 30 years of plowing snow was enough for him! Now let me tell you about the fun stuff...snowmobiling, ice fishing, winter and summer camping, hunting, fly fishing, four wheeling, gold dredging, we do it all and more. Scott and I are getting a little older and wider but we try not to let that stop us. Surrounded by the natural beauty and bounty of the area we feel blessed to fill our freezer with moose meat and pick blueberries for canning each fall.
Scott P Mayo purchased this House in 1987
Why Scott P Mayo chose Cantwell
Scott and I have lived in a few different locations here in Cantwell. As a child I lived in the old town of Cantwell in a small trailer house. After Scott and I married we lived in a small log cabin without electricity or indoor plumbing. We had a hand pump for water. After we had the kids Scott bought me a gasoline wash machine! I had to pump three 5 gallon bucket of water to fill that washer up! I was one strong chick! In 1985 we sold our small cabin and decided to build a bigger home for our growing family. Scott with the help of some of our helpful neighbors and friends put the roof on the main cabin just before the snow flew in the winter of 1987. We have been modernizing and making improvements for the last 30 years. Even though Cantwell didn't have commercial power or TV until the mid-80s we have now caught up with the rest of the world. Modern technology is a wonderful thing but it is easy to forget to "log on"when you're surrounded by Alaska's beauty. We hope you enjoy the area as much as we do
What makes this House unique
We live a simple life here. Coffee in the morning sitting on the porch swing listening to the birds and swatting a mosquito or two 😉. With Mountain view's, wildlife and the abundance Alaska has to offer we have almost everything we need right outside our door. Literally right outside our door! We have had moose (Matilda ,eating my flowers), caribou (eating my lawn) ,fox and a couple of young bears come through over the years. Scott and I hope you relax and enjoy your stay in our neck of the woods. And don't forget, 30 minutes away you have access to great restaurants, drinking establishments, gift shops, coffee shops, ice cream shop and all the outdoor activities and sightseeing Denali National park has to offer.

Pristine setting + pristine cabin = paradise!
We absolutely loved every minute of our stay at Scott and Vivian's Denali lodge. Booking, communication and check in were all effortless and simple. Their greeting and tour of the house when we arrived was friendly and informative. Every detail one could think of to make our stay enjoyable and easy was taken into consideration - tips for restaurants posted on the fridge, coffee/tea plus filters, creamer and sugar, Scrabble and Jenga for fun, plenty of information on Alaska and Denali National Park...plus reading materials about their own very interesting history and experiences in Alaska were all on hand. The house was the cleanest VRBO we have ever stayed in - absolutely immaculate. The beds were comfortable and the linens, blankets and towels were clean and plentiful. The house is appointed with incredible Alaskan artifacts - and they were both so friendly and willing to talk with us about hunting and living in this remote region of Alaska. The house was warm, spacious and offered our party of 4 plenty of room for eating and reading together, as well as space for us to spread out for quiet/private time. The deck, with its table and umbrella was a nice spot to sit and have a glass of wine. The house is located 30ish minutes from the entrance to Denali, which made it very convenient for our early bus tour. It's 15 minutes from an excellent restaurant (Denali Creek Cafe - we went there 3 times in 3 days for excellent food and service). This was an excellent stay - I can't say enough positives about it.
Thank you for taking the time to write this in-depth 5 star review! It makes all the effort Scott, myself and Kaeleen (our wonderful daughter and fellow cleaning partner) put into this zany endeavor feel very worthwhile. It was our pleasure to meet you and your family Kimberly and we hope to see you again sometime.
We really enjoyed our stay at Denali Mountain View Lodge. Everything we needed and more! The Mayo’s welcomed us like family and we enjoyed hearing about their Alaskan adventures. Truly inspirational!
We loved staying here! Such a great home and highly recommended.
Our first VRBO experience - this location would be highly recommended.
Vivian greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a tour as well as the house rules. We were only able to stay for 2 days but enjoyed our time immensely. The property is extremely clean and very well maintained. All the linens and towels were provided. It was perfect for our needs. We purchased groceries (in Anchorage) and ate in - and we had everything that we needed, including a BBQ and ice maker in the fridge. Vivian and Scott have done a fabulous job and this location is highly recommended.
Beautiful Home to Rent
My group of eight rented this house and we really enjoyed our stay. The house is clean, well maintained, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The location is close to Denali National Park yet felt remote. We enjoyed our stay and the home owners were great to work with.
Comfortable, cozy and spotless!
Our group of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids) spent 6 nights in this lovely home. We have stayed at many vrbo and homeaway rentals and I honestly think this is the most comfortable stay we’ve ever had at a rental. From the comfy beds and bedding, the furniture, the upgraded appliances, everything is very high end and we felt so at home. The layout gives the home a nice flow, very open and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Vivian was very warm and welcoming and was very responsive if we needed anything. It made such a nice place to come home to at the end of a busy day exploring the incredibly beautiful Denali area. My husband loved that he could go fly fishing in the Jack River less than a mile away. Loved this place! Thank you Scott and Vivian for sharing your home.
