Sisante is one of Cuenca towns that has best preserved its integrity as architectural. Its economic power in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries is evident in the many palatial homes that line the streets and in its rich cultural and artistic heritage. It has, moreover, with all the advantages of a quiet, rural location but also provides facilities as are enjoyed in a big city: swimming pool, tennis court, health center 24 hours, supermarkets, butchers emergency, fish, numerous restaurants and bars.
In addition, you can visit the local wineries and taste and buy the excellent wines and oils of the earth at a great price.
It is also advisable to try the delicious artisan honey, collected by beekeepers sisanteños or Manchego cheese prestigious limited production.
We are west of the region of La Mancha, a few miles from the course of Júcar and sickles charting height Alarcón. Almonds, olives, vineyards, irrigated and rainfed maize, sunflower and wheat alternate with pine forests that dot the gentle topography of the eastern part of La Mancha Cervantes.
Worth come and meet us.
Maria the owner was fantastic at keeping in touch both before and during our stay. There is also a very useful folder of information about things to do in the house.
The house itself is delightful, very well equipped, comfortable beds and cool and inviting living space. The outside terrace area was really lovely and we spent lots of time playing table tennis. Despite temperatures of over 35 degrees the house was always manageable heat-wise, following Maria's advise re. windows, blinds and shutters!
Sisante is a great small town/large village with some lovely bars and a great restaurant. It has some very beautiful buildings and the people were very friendly. The market on a Friday was a treat, as was Bar Liverpool with 23 different types of gin! The pool was very welcome! We visiting Cuenca, Alarcon and the Hoces de Cabrel for a day of rafting, all really enjoyable.
We stayed here for a week in mid May 2013. Originally we were booked into Al Este but as there was no one in the bigger house, 10 Granados, Maria gave us this to use instead.
10 Granados is a lovely 4 bedroom village house with modern decor and everything you would want. The house was extremely well presented and impecably clean. The town of Sisante is in La Mancha and is what we would call "Real Spain". It is a quaint town where not much English is spoken but this only adds to the fun. It is an ideal base to explore La Mancha with Cuenca, Alarcon, Belmonte etc all being within an hours drive.
As we were the first english speaking guests to stay here Maria had gone to special lengths to ensure that she provided us with plenty of information with regard to local attractions and things to do and places to eat and followed up with us to make sure that everthing was Ok and if we needed any help.
We would recommend that you take the time to visit the wonderful city of Cuenca (about an hour away) where we were impressed by the beauty of the old town, the windmills at Campo de Criptana, the fortified village at Alarcon, the castle at Belmonte and the near by town of San Clemente.
Have lunch in Alarcon at La Cabana (superb food and great service), make sure you have a drink at the bar in El Picazo on the river, and ensure that you make the effort to find the Hotel La Moragona to have a dinner experience you won't forget (this was the best meal experience we had in a month in Spain, the chef here is brilliant!)
If you are looking for the non tourist experience then we have no hesitation in recommending this accomodation to you.
Thanks Maria for all your help, maybe we'll see you in New Zealand one day!
