Description

Photos and Description of this 10 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Embleton - The Old Homestead

10 large bedrooms all en suite, ample living space and huge lawned garden

The Old Homestead is a spectacular example of a Cumbrian Longhouse. Sitting at the head of the Lorton valley the property boasts exceptional self catering accommodation for 25.

The Old Homestead has won awards for its architectural design which incorporates modern utilities such as underfloor heating while preserving old world features such as the large impressive fireplace. The original bread oven was once used to make bread for the surrounding farms and cottages. The staircase to the first floor is also the original dating back to the 16th Century and you'll find exposed beams throughout the house.

The bedrooms at The Old Homestead are spacious and all have en-suites, TVs, their own thermostat for controlling the underfloor heating and comfortable seating.

The large garden has wonderful views looking down the Buttermere Valley to Grasmoor and Red Pike and also across to Skiddaw.

You enter The Old Homestead into a foyer where you will find an original bread oven in the corner to your left. The door directly in front of you takes you into the stairwell, off here is the first of 3 double bedrooms. The Old Stable, Stable 1 and Stable 2 are all spacious double rooms with en-suites, two of which have a walk in shower, WC and wash basin. The Old Stable has a bath with fixed shower head above it, WC and wash basin.

Going back through to the foyer then turning right takes you into the large lounge with comfortable seating, TV, DVD player and a large wood burning stove set in one of the largest working fire places/chimneys in the Lake District. This then opens out into the spacious dining room with seating for 25. There is also a wonderful original old boiling pot as you enter the dining room. To your right is the door leading to the spacious garden.

The large lawned garden is extremely large and has a patio with outdoor furniture as well as the large lawned area with beautiful views which look towards the Buttermere Valley, across to Skiddaw, Grasmoor and Red Pike.

Back into the dining room then down the corridor takes you into the kitchen which has an electric range cooker, microwave, dishwasher and large free-standing fridge as well as free-standing freezer. There is also plenty of storage space in the kitchen.

Out of the kitchen, turn right and through into another corridor, the first door is the utility room which has a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a WC. The next room along is Byre 1 with 3 single beds and en-suite which has walk in shower, WC, basin and handrails these are also wheelchair friendly. Next to this bedroom is Byre 2, a family room with a double bed and 2 single beds. The en-suite is again wheelchair friendly with walk in shower, WC, basin and handrails.

You ascend to the first floor of The Old Homestead climbing the original 16th century staircase and from the landing is a door to your left which takes you into a hallway where you will find Swallow Loft, a twin bedroom with en-suite which has a bath with fixed shower head, WC and wash basin. Next to this room is Hayloft a family room with a double bed and a second annexed area with twin beds. Again there is an en-suite which has a bath with fixed shower head above, WC and wash basin.

Heading back to the landing there is another door in front of you leading to a long corridor. In front of you is The master's room which has a king size 4 poster bed, a small seating area, with leather, sofa and large bathroom, again which has a bath with fixed shower head, WC, bidet and wash basin.

Along the corridor is Cruck 1 with a king size double with leather sofa and en-suite which has walk in shower, WC, and wash basin. Next door to here is Cruck 2, again with a king size double and en-suite

The Lorton Valley is a fantastic open Lakeland valley which further down has both Crummock Water and Buttermere lakes and fantastic mountain scenery, it is a wonderful place to soak up the Lake District's true beauty.

Cockermouth is just a few miles away with the Wordsworth Museum and Jennings Brewery (which has a tour with tasting!) and Keswick just a 10 miles away is the adventure hub of the northern Lake District, with a vast choice of outdoor activities on two feet, a bike, and on water.

You couldn’t get a better base for a Lakes holiday!
