About Ali Burke

After reading Martin Walker's books about Bruno in the Dordogne we felt we had to visit this beautiful spot. Immediately we fell in love with the beauty and way of life, so we left our careers and Cape Town and bought La Maure.

I have a love of all things gorgeous, whether it's food, art, decor or travelling.

We have just finished renovating our gîte. Next is the house. A 200 yr old farmhouse where we will have 2 B&B rooms. We have immersed ourselves into the gorgeous countryside and Greg has been busy establishing his potager, producing wonderful vegetables for our table. We have four hens laying fresh eggs everyday and available to our guests. Although this is our first time hosting in France, we have been doing so all our lives for family & friends and can't wait to welcome our guests and share this wonderful little hamlet in the Dordogne.

Why Ali Burke chose Campsegret

When deciding to move to France, it was important that it was close to an airport but still felt like we were in rural France. After travelling, one wants to relax, have a glass of wine and settle into the holiday. Yet we are close to all the sites and activities that the Dordogne has to offer. Cafes, restaurants, markets and a supermarket are close by.

What makes this cottage unique

We have created a luxury gîte, with all the comforts of home. Close attention to detail and style, as well as decor, has been taken into account. The bedding is 100% linen with duck down pillows and duvet. Toiletries are supplied and soft fluffy towels. The brand new kitchen has every utensil and appliance a chef needs.

A little Pece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Magnifique all round! The gite was superb from it’s creative decor and style to it’s luxury and comfort. The pool and grounds were tranquil and peaceful and our hosts could not have given us a warmer welcome. Thank you Ali and Gregg for a little piece of paradise together with some wonderful memories of newfound friends.

I absolutely loved my stay at Le Frene a La Maure! It anchored the very best of travel adventures for me.

Beautifully decorated and cozy, the gite has every amenity to make self catering fun and easy, as well as thoughtful extras; including a market basket, tasty welcoming treats, recommendations and information for local restaurants and activities and a good library of popular books and videos.

The property, snuggled into the tranquil and lush countryside, beckons guests to leisurely walks and meanderings. The tempo is relaxed and restorative, whether poolside, on the patio, or poking about the potager for salad fixings. Flowers abound, owls softly hoot in the distance as evening falls and stars pop and dazzle in the dark night sky. At the same time, it is only a short distance to fascinating historical sites, inviting towns, varied musical venues and inspired cuisine.

Perhaps most importantly, Ali and Greg are clever, caring and fun hosts, sincerely committed to creating an enjoyable and memorable holiday for their guests.

Idyllique et charmant

  • 5 of 5
