About Peter & Alyson Sansbury
When we moved to Le Tertre from Sussex a few years ago, it was to escape the rat-race of our busy working lives and the stressful commuting and long hours culture of the UK. Le Tertre is a complete antidote to that lifestyle, with its rural setting in the middle of rolling countryside on the southern border of Lower Normandy where it meets the Mayenne region of the Pays de le Loire. The peace and quiet of this area is so relaxing that within hours of getting here you will begin to unwind and settle into the rural French way of life.

What makes this Cottage unique
Le Tertre Gites 'Jaune' is conveniently located for exploring both Lower Normandy and the Mayenne plus other parts of the spectacular Loire. There are a number of chateaux (Lassay, St Suzanne, Carrouges, Fougeres etc.) and other historic and cultural places to visit in the surrounding region. The owners live in the separate farmhouse across the garden from the gite and are available to provide whatever assistance you may need to make the most of your holiday. Providing modern, comfortable accommodation with all modern facilities, Le Tertre Jaune is located on the border of Normandy and the Loire and is perfect for exploring both areas. Our gite accommodates 2 adults. Bed linen and towels (inc. beach/lounger towels) are provided. The bathroom features a modern suite including bath + shower attachment. The lounge provides a flat-screen television with UK ‘Freesat’ channels (n.b. French TNT tv is available by pre-arrangement), free wireless internet access, and comfortable seating with a woodburner and electric radiator. The open plan ground floor also provides a dining area and newly fitted kitchen with washing machine. There is an enclosed garden behind the gite for your own use which has beautiful uninterrupted views across the local countryside. Sun loungers and outside table and chairs are provided. Free off-road parking is provided. Electricity and hot water is included in the price. Logs for the woodburner by arrangement. A complimentary welcome pack is provided which includes eggs as available from our own chickens or ducks and other basic groceries. Be sure to sample some of the many local cheeses and wines from the area. Pears and apples are a local speciality so cider and poiré tasting is a must! The medieval town of Domfront is only 12km from us, with Mayenne only 20 minutes south of us. The pretty towns of Bagnoles de L'Orne (under 1/2 hour away) and St Fraimbault (10 minutes) are both close.
Well-behaved dogs accepted by prior arrangement.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.

Le tertre gites 'Jaune'
We stayed here early July 2018 and had a a wonderful stay . The gite was lovely and clean and very well equipped and had a most welcome 'welcome pack' after a long journey . It's situated in beautiful rural surroundings, very peaceful and quiet , which was just what we needed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking rest and relaxation.
Thank you for a wonderful stay 8o)
Many thanks for your kind words Tina and David, your review is much appreciated! We are delighted you had a good time here and of course you are very welcome again any time :)

Lovely house to relax with very nice hosts
We had a really nice stay in gite Jaune. It's a really nice house and well equipped, with really friendly helpfull owners/hosts in the form of Peter and Alyson.
Never felt like they were on top of us, but almost always there to help out when needed.
The gite is compact, but perfect for a couple, everything you really need is there. And all in a very cosy setting. Really good blend between old and new.
The sunken bedroom is a bit quirky, but at the same time really adds to the whole vibe.
There is only so much you can fit in such a gite, and I think Peter and Alyson found a good balance between comfort and space.
The area is really quiet, perfect for us as we were escaping the newyears celebrations in the Netherlands (fireworks). The downside is then though that everything is a bit of a drive, but as long as you're ok with that it's actually a really good selling point.
As we were staying in the middle of winter, be it quite moderate, we did notice the electric heaters, mainly downstairs can't really keep it comfortable. We love having the woodstove going anyway, but it was a also needed for comfort. Probably not an issue for most travelers throughout the rest of the year.
All in all we had a lovely time, and even though we have a tendancy to explore new ground every trip I do see us visiting Le Tetre Gite again sometime.
Many thanks for your review of our smallest gite, Le Tertre Jaune. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and you rightly highlight the peace and quiet of our rural location with no neighbours nearby as one of the main benefits of staying here.
We very much hope to see you again.
