Lacet is part of Hutton John Estate. It has passed through several families and is now owned by the Fraser family. When we came back home in 2000 we started developing the Estate as a business and in 2017 we decided to create three holiday lets and Lacet is one of them. It took a lot of effort to get them ready and so we take pride in ensuring guests have a lovely place to call home during their holiday. We live close by so if you need some assistance there is some one available to help. I will visit you at the cottage to check you have settled in and give you any tips about the local area.
Why Kate chose Hutton
Whether you want a romantic getaway or you and some friends feel like a holiday together, Lacet Cottage is the perfect retreat. Children will love the garden for playing and everyone can enjoy some al fresco dining set just above Skitwathh Beck. You my well be lucky enough to see a red squirrel or two, but there are certainly lots of birds to watch. It is ideally located in a quiet hamlet, yet just 10 minutes from Penrith where you will find various supermarkets including Booths and Marks and Spencer's. There are plenty of other quirky shops ad some great restaurants and a cinema probably not like you have been to before!
What makes this House unique
Lacet is a Lakeland stone cottage, built in the nineteenth century as two cottages. It has been lovingly converted in to a single cottage but still with some quirky features. The views from Lacet are wonderful. You can see Little Mell Fell from the kitchen window and it looks glorious whether covered in a blanket of snow or basking in sunshine. You should see lots of wildlife, including red squirrels that come and feed in the garden. The cottage is surrounded by its own garden, but the outlook is over fields full of sheep, you might also see owls and various other birds. If you are very lucky and up early enough you may catch a glimpse of a roe deer.. Skitwath Beck flows at the bottom of the valley, to the side of the property, but if you want to go sailing you’ll have to go to Ullswater!

A true home-away-from-home, Lacet Cottage has everything you need to have an amazing holiday in the Lakes. The abundance of wildlife in the garden, including red squirrels, is enchanting. There are a number of walks straight from the property and the rest of the Lakes only a short drive away. The cottage is extremely comfortable and Kate, the owner, will go out of her way to ensure that you’re looked after. This is our second time at Lacet Cottage and we will certainly be back - we didn’t want to leave!
Thank you James for your lovely comments. We would love to welcome your family back to Lacet, but especially Tina!
A wonderful week
As described, this really is a luxury cottage, tastefully decorated with a keen eye for detail and perfectly located for exploring the Northern Lakes. We had a wonderfully relaxing week, lots of walking, eating out and when back at the cottage enjoying the peace and wildlife. Kate popped in to help us find the Boot Room and offering suggestions for local walks and pubs, she is a lovely host.
Thank you for such a lovely review, it made me smile. Hope to see you all again.
Kind regards, Kate.
Perfect weekend away
Absoutely loved our stay. We truly felt at home, the property is so cosy, warming and it is clear to see a lot of love, hard-work and effort has been put into the renovation of the cottage. We will definitely be staying here again as there is so much in the area to see, no way could we cram everything into a long weekend. However the stunning location meant we equally would have been quite comfortable wrapped up indoors keeping an eye on the red squirrels, beautiful. Kate was a lovely host and completely left us to enjoy our stay but on hand if anything popped up. Thank you very much again.
Thank you for your fantastic review. I am so pleased you had such a great stay.. Do get in touch if you want to stay again.
Best wishes, Kate.
There are lots of activities available in the surrounding area, including walking in the fells and watersports- kayaking and sailing on Ullswater. You can go horse riding at Rookin Farm or by Ullswater. Keswick is a great town to visit for a bite to eat or some shopping. Penrith has lots of supermarkets if you need to buy some food. There are many pubs in the villages- Greystoke, Penruddock, Dacre and then on the lake at Pooley Bridge.
