About Dave McKay
I have always enjoyed freedom and the outdoors and adventure starts in this part of Utah
Dave McKay purchased this House in 2011
Why Dave McKay chose Thompson
This property is for those who want peace, quiet and lots of freedom. The best dinosaur tracks in the world are a nice little 11 mile ride to the south. 4500 year old Indian paintings are just 3 miles north of town. A lot of wildlife passes through the little town, including herds of antelope and deer. Black bear has been spotted in town and there is a herd of buffalo in the nearby Book Cliffs. Moab is just 30 miles to the south , so if you get lonely for heavy traffic and lots of people, it's a relatively short drive.
What makes this House unique
This property is surrounded by hundreds of miles of ATV trails that can be accessed from the front door . In 2012 myself and 8 others rode our ATVs from the front door to Arizona (504 miles one way ) and never crossed private property. In 2014 we rode ATVS from the front door to Wyoming ( 384miles one way)

Quiet place off the beaten trail
This place was so nice! My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend to visit Moab with out two small dogs. I liked that it was in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of Moab and we got more space for our money.
The place was really clean and stocked with needed towels and bedding. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking utensils and we were able to cook full breakfasts and dinners at the house.
The trains that run in front of the house do seem to be a little all over the place when it comes to timing. On our first night they seemed to run through all through the night, but the other nights there wasn't a train after 11PM. They were loud, but I was able to fall asleep easily after they past and my husband didn't even hear them.
My only complaint was that there were a lot of goat head sticker weeds all over the property and they kept getting stuck in my dogs paws. I stopped walking them around the property to do their business and would walk down to the abandoned hotel instead.
We spent our last full day in Thompson Springs exploring the canyon and the ghost town. It was really enjoyable and we're planning our next trip so that we can bring our extended family.
Comfortable and Nice Place to Stay
We were pleasantly surprised with this home! It was clean, comfortable, and a great place to stay off I-70. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!
Wonderful as usual!
Thank you so much for once again providing amazing quality and care. We love staying at your park, and cannot wait to come again.
I can't think of any way this could have been better! It was just perfect for us. Plenty of room and extremely clean. Great beds. Luxurious bed linens and bountiful supply of bath linens as well. The kitchen was well stocked. The laundry room was even complete with soap and dryer sheets. We didn't see the antelope that other renters mentioned, but a little rabbit did make an appearance one day. The train passes quite close by, but we hardly heard it. This made a great jumping off place for Arches, Canyonlands and we even went to Monument Valley one day. Loved the history of the area. Very unique location. We almost hated to leave. Would highly recommend it!
Loved our stay in this ghost town close to several abandoned houses and businesses.
Thompson House was clean, comfortable and provided plenty of room for us. It was a 40 minute drive to Moab and offered peace and quiet, with the exception of the train. We would definitely stay there again!
