Lilac Cottage is situated in pretty village of Ebberston near Pickering
About Jo Hardie
We moved to Cliff House in the pretty village of Ebberston in 2008 from another small village 10 minutes away, with our three children. We consider ourselves very lucky to be able to live in such a beautiful part of Yorkshire. When we are not busy preparing the cottages/welcoming guests etc. we spend most of our free time in the 4 acre grounds and gardens at Cliff House, so are always available for a chat or to offer advice on places to visit or recommend somewhere to eat.

Why Jo Hardie chose Scarborough
We love this area and could not imagine living anywhere else. We had been looking for a holiday cottage complex for several years, as we were determined that we must be in the ideal location for our guests to be able to visit all the local area has to offer - the coast (Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar), the moors (Flamingoland, North York Moors Railway, Eden Camp) Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Dalby Forest and the ancient city of York, all within a 30 minute drive. The location of Cliff House, sitting on the edge of the village of Ebberston, means that we are secluded and peaceful (many guests comment that it is almost like being in a hamlet) yet easily accessible to local facilities, being a two minute walk to a traditional pub and a bus route into Scarborough.

Great Little Cottage with Pool
We had an enjoyable holiday and managed to bag the shared pool to ourselves most evenings, though it was a shame that the jacuzzi wasn’t in use. The Grapes Inn across the road was handy, but we only visited once as there was no children’s menu, it was pricey and the desserts were a bit of a let down. The cottage itself is handily places for Pickering and most of the big attractions including Flamingo Land and Castle Howard. The accommodation could do with a little sprucing up in places but can’t really fault it, we had a great time.
Thank you for your review. We do not advertise or offer the use of a jacuzzi. We are somewhat surprised at your comments re the Grapes pub. They are very accommodating and will produce anything from the menu in a child's portion. The prices are similar to all the local pubs and the desserts are superb - we ran a Patisserie for over 40 years.
Owners do not communicate well
Didn’t enjoy it as owner thought we might have sneaked a dog into cottage as I had a dog guard in my car
Lilac cottage is in a tranquil setting with lovely grounds for the kids to run around in. Loved the swimming pool.
Thank you Liz for your lovely review. Delighted that the kids enjoyed their time in Lilac Cottage.
Lovely stay. Cosy cottage and beautiful rooms!
Beautiful little cottage in the country side, lovely owner, very welcoming. Added bonus of the games room and indoor heated pool! Resteraunt within minutes of walk, local buses regularly and very close to Scarborough for a great family day out! I would certainly recommend staying here. Only issue I had was getting any phone signal within the cottage but other than that it was a lovely stay! Thank you so much! Xx
Thank you Crystal for your lovely review, delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Lilac Cottage. We apologise for the lack of phone signal during your stay - unfortunately the thickness of the stone walls of the cottage do interfere with mobile phone signals!
The sandy beaches at Scarborough are a 20 minute drive away. The rugged coastline of Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay are 30 minutes away by car. Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and Eden Camp wartime museum all within 15 minute drive. Dalby Forest for keen cyclists, walkers or nature lovers, and Go Ape for the more adventurous just 3 miles away with direct access from the lane at the side of the cottages.
