2 Old Park Cottages is the ultimate coastal retreat, a real get away from it all holiday. Surrounded by nature and quietly tucked away in St Lawrence Undercliff, close to Ventnor on the South side of the Isle of Wight. Built circa 1855 and formerly part of the Twinings Tea Family Estate, this 2 bed, rather special semi-detached, once Estate Managers cottage, has recently been lovingly restored back to its original condition, with the gardens being designed and planted by the current owners to match the period of the cottage. Though a few thoughtful modern touches have been sympathetically added for additional enjoyment and comfort.
Set within an area of outstanding natural beauty, 2 Old Park Cottages is the perfect cottage to take some time for yourself and your loved ones, with stunning coastal and inland walks, challenging mountain biking and some wonderful little Bays along the coastline to picnic and relax on; Woody Bay being the closest, just over half a mile’s walk from the cottage.
Very much a typical Victorian cottage layout, with a cosy and comfortable sitting room, offering plenty of seating and a welcoming log fire, perfect on those cooler evenings, and a large Smart TV. The kitchen has been restored to mirror Queen Victoria’s children’s kitchen at The Swiss Cottage in the grounds of Osborne House. The dining area is in the conservatory next to the kitchen, with the immaculate groundfloor bathroom off of the small back hallway between them, with a stunning free standing roll top bath and hand held shower. Up the steep stairs there are two bedrooms, with the back bedroom benefiting from some stunning sea views out across the English Chanel.
Two beautifully and well-thought-out planted cottage gardens, with no species dating later than 1860. Set over two levels and packed with half a dozen species of rare roses, dating from the 12th to 19th century. Enter the grounds by the top garden, let your senses go free and breath in the wonderful perfume from the rare roses, walk around the flower beds and find the strategically placed seating, positioned to maximise the breath-taking coastal views. Follow the stepping stones to the top of the 37 steps that will take you to the lower garden and front door. More specimen roses and flowers will greet you, there is a raised decked area, with table, chairs and a gas bbq. As you come down the steps from decked outside dining area, there is a small raised pond and water feature.
St Lawrence has a Post Office that sell a few everyday items, seasonal local produce, newspapers and logs. The Victorian seaside town of Ventnor is only 2 miles away and has a butchers, fishery, greengrocer, 2 x chemists, Spar with cash point, Tesco Extra with cash point and a co-op, as well as many boutique shops, Artisan café’s and restaurants. Take a walk along Ventnor Esplanade, enjoy an ice-cream and take a paddle in the glistening English Channel from Ventnor Bay.
