ALT EMPORDA: This region is situated at the Northeastern most corner of the Iberian Peninsula, where the Costa Brava begins, with small coastal towns like Portbou and Colera. The capital, Figueres, is known world-wide for being the site of the Dalí Theatre Museum, one of Spain's most frequently visited museums, which houses a great deal of the painter's works. From here, one can embark on a journey covering the life of Salvador Dalí, including a visit to the Púbol castle (in the Baix Empordà region) and to his home in Portlligat, in Cadaqués.

The Alt Empordà region also boasts natural areas of great environmental interest. The Aiguamolls de I'Empordà Natural Park, situated between the towns of Castelló d'Empúries, Empuriabrava (a residential area that provides a wide range of leisure offerings and where the Mediterranean's biggest residential marina is located) and Sant Pere Pescador, concentrates a large number of autochthonous flora and fauna species.

SITUATED ON THE BORDER OF THE PARK: Cap de Creus Natural Park, which occupies a surface area of 10,787 hectares on land and another 3,073 hectares of sea, encompasses the coastal towns of Cadaqués, El Port de la Selva, Llançà and Roses, and the inland towns of La Selva de Mar, Palau -saverdera, Pau and Vilajuïga. You will enjoy pleasant walking tours, usually with a lot of wind, along the paths that take you to the Cap. This is your chance of seeing more that 250 bird species.
“Cap de Creus” is the first marine and terrestrial park in Catalonia. The “Cap de Creus” peninsula is the last spur of the Pyrenees and the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula.
The combination of both marine and inland environments makes Cap de Creus Natural Park the first of its kind in Catalonia.

THE NEARBY RUINS D'EMPORDA: Empuries has a very nice beach, which is dwarfed by the most important archaeological site in Spain, like the ruins of the Greek Paleopolis at Sant Marti d´Empuries, with the Neopolis, necropolis and the Roman Ruins as well as the museum of the excavations. The foundation of Empuries is ascribed to the Greeks who had settled at Marsseille in 550BC. A visit to the ruins shows the market, the agora, the holy area where the temples stood and the main one dedicated to Jupiter. Among a group of altars, the statue of Aesculapius was found, a reproduction of which can be seen. The museum shows reproductions of the most valuable finds, which are kept in Barcelona and Girona. The ruins of a Christian basilica and Visigoth sarcophagi are found in the harbour area. Of the Roman town, the southern wall, the amphitheatre and the arena are preserved as well as the ruins of a Roman villa.

Fabulous property with an equally fabulous view!
Fantastic location with a magnificent view situated next to the National Park. A no-through road so little traffic with the occasional festival noise early evening drifting up the hill. Only a 10 minute drive way from the main town/supermarkets. Property finished to a high standard throughout. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc and the two fridges were ample for our needs. Karen provided a wonderful welcome pack and even a water filter jug which gave us cold water rather than buying bottled water. The beds were very comfortable and the showers in the bathrooms were powerful. The adjoining bedroom for our grandson was ideal and the cot Karen provided was excellent with a proper mattress. Superb outdoor areas with lots of seating and shade. The pool was ideal for 8 adults and the extended pool steps were enjoyed by our grandson. Karen has gone the extra mile and really thought about what guests would like and the little touches like the salad and vegetable patch and eggs from the hens made our stay more enjoyable. And not least the giant chess set which certainly kept some of our party very quiet! It was useful to have a small gym on site and the weights were used regularly however the spinning bike was looking very tired and could do with replacing. This was the only negative for a superb property where we felt very happy, safe and secure and would not hesitate to recommend to families or a larger group of adults.

Spectacular setting
We were a family group who stayed for 2 weeks including an elderly aunt and the villa was perfect for our needs. All on one level with easy access to the pool and other outside facilities. We had a brilliant stay at the villa and we all felt very much at home there. The bedrooms are very spacious , kitchen facilities were first class and everything was very well maintained. Karen has a beautiful home and she did all she could to help us with information and even provided a wheelchair for the aunt. Would have no hesitation in recommending this villa for a perfect vacation as there is plenty to see and do in Roses and surrounding areas.

Very Impressive Villa!
We had booked this villa well in advanced and at our long anticipated arrival we were not disappointed. The house and grounds are spacious and very well maintained. A lot of thought has gone into the interior design with a considerate mix of high specification fittings and homely charm. The views over Roses are amazing and the kids really enjoyed the exterior; pool, jacuzzi, chess. etc. For part of the holiday we were joined by an elderly relative so the level access features around the villa were much appreciated. Karen was an excellent host and provided us with a most generous welcome pack upon arrival. If you are considering this part of Catalonia for a holiday Casa de l'albada has to be first on your list!

How do you say 'Zen' in Spanish?
We stayed just over a week in Roses, and we're pleased with our choice of a place to stay. Upon arrival, the deco and the garden gave us a relaxed feeling. It is a little out of town, but the top of a hill brings a cool breeze, a great view and a lot of privacy. We saw fire works from the pool, sunsets from the hot tub, And a jet ski race from the hike out the backdoor. Karen made our stay in a fabulous home even better. Restaurant recommendations, day time exclusions, and a fully equipt home with beautiful garden...made the time fly by. The house is decorated with style, and stays cool even with the hot outdoors. Roses itself is a great little town. The people are friendly, plenty of restaurants, and a huge beach. The AquaBrava water park on the out skirts of Roses provided a great way to cool off in fresh water. The nearby natural park has ruins from 4000bc. The marked trails were not to difficult, but having hills to climb and decend gave us some morning exercise and a fabulous view of the bay of Roses. I am looking to book my next trip back...so be quick to get your dates!

Hi, I’m an expat Aussie who has been in Europe since 1998
I have 3 beautiful children and 3 gorgeous grandchildren.
I love to travel and am an extremely keen cyclist.
I love the wide outdoors and try to find time every day to get out and enjoy the fabulous nature of our local area.
I enjoy interior design and DIY projects so the villa has become my life’s major work.
I’m a passionate Gardner and have a floral background and therefore spend many hours in the garden.
I’m devoted to creating a carbon neutral footprint for my home and family and have been able to reduce our emissions and we now produce enough energy to supply our villa with almost 100% of its daily electricity.

Why they chose this property

The reason why I love spending time at this property is because of the forever changing and fantastic views high over the bay and facing the western mountain ranges.
In winter the snow capped peaks and clear blue skies that are often dotted in the distance with brightly coloured hot air balloons .
In summer the constant movement of the seacraft on the bay and watching the distant decent of parachutists slowly descending back to the airfield at opposite side of the bay in Empuriabrava which is the largest of its kind in Europe, and then the most interesting cloud formations that capture the imagination.
In spring you can enjoy the view of migrating birds including Storks heading further north or to the nearby Aiguamolls wildlife sanctuary.
In Autumn we enjoy the most spectacular sunsets also some great storms and the electrical storms that can be viewed from hundreds of kilometers away.
I have chosen to remain as gardner at the house, not only because as a passionate gardner this garden has become one of the biggest challenges of my life , a constant struggle with the elements, hot summers ,low rainfall, high wind periods and occaisionally some very cold winters but because of the last mentioned changing views, this work is allways an absolute pleasure!
And when the weather turns on us and one need to retreat to the sanctuary of the house the views are still there from every window
large panoramic grey frames , chosen exspecially to frame and form living artworks that change depending on the angle and time of day that one has chosen to enjoy and view them.

What makes this property unique

Whether you choose to shut the front gates and retreat into the confines of this beautiful and private paradise or venture into the surrounding nature park you will feel like your many miles from the hustle and bustle of the costal sea town.

But the reality is that only a few minutes away everything that you can possibly need to buy , see or do is at you fingertips.

The choice is simply yours !
