Rathgar has been owned by the same family since 1948. We think it a very special place. Certainly it has given us many happy times and we sincerely hope it will do the same for you.
Approached by car along a level drive, Rathgar has accommodation for 6 to 8 people in 3 double bedrooms , one also has 2 bunks, with 2 bathrooms and 3 W.C.s. There is parking for 3+ cars (a real boon in Batson)
The third large double bedroom has an ensuite shower room and is 10 meters from the main house providing an Ideal Granny 'annex. This room has a lovely shower room , an airing cupboard and a clothes dryer. French windows lead out of the bedroom onto a secluded terrace.
The ground floor of the main house has a sitting room with open fireplace, comfortable seating and Smart TV with DVD player. From there patio doors lead to the decking overlooking the valley and creek which has a table and chairs for 'al fresco' meals. The kitchen and dining room has a bespoke kitchen, well stocked equipment including an electric cooker, a microwave, fridge, washing machine and large larder as well as a large extending table seating at least 8 people. There is a wood burning stove which creates plenty of warmth for the house in colder weather. A small sunporch beside the front door with views over the valley is an ideal quiet spot. The third large double bedroom has an ensuite shower room and is 10 meters from the main house. providing an ideal "Granny" annex. This room was refurbished in 2017 and has a lovely shower room , an airing cupboard over the hot water cylinder and a tumble dryer.
A large flat area of garden and lawn surrounds the house and a steep set of steps leads down to the orchard garden and path to the bottom garden gate. Below that lies Batson Green at the head of the creek. From there it is a flat walk of about three quarters of a mile along the creek side into Salcombe. Rathgar is accessed from the parking area either by steps or a gravel slope. Although the house and garden are reasonably flat there is a step into the house and other steps also meaning it is not suitable for people unable to manage them.
We ask tenants to bring their own sheets, duvet covers and towels. but we can give you details of someone who will provide them for you and make up the beds at an extra cost. The main bed in the cottage is a 5 ft one and the others are standard doubles. The bunk beds are standard singles. Each bed has a duvet and pillows provided. We do allow pets (within reason) but insist that you ask us first.
