A perfect break away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose this cottage on its location and the beautiful decor. We were not disappointed. The harbour slipway is visable from the lounge and the foot ferry to Falmouth a 2 minute walk away. Having an open fire made the cottage even more cosy in the evenings. The cottage has 2 pubs near by and the Pandora Inn in the next village which is a 30 minute walk away. We booked this cottage to relax and unwind and it did exactly that, beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

Fabulous cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I with our 2 sons had a fantastic stay at sunshine cottage.

The cottage was very clean and very well laid out. The kitchen was very well equipped with high quality fittings, pans and plates.

The open fire was lovely particularly during Storm Brian! Very cosy and very warm.

Great location - right in the centre of the village. Took the ferry to falmouth many times during our stay and took some lovely walks along the coast and to the Pandora Inn.

Only downside was the sound of the pub recycling being put out at 7.15 every morning and the recycling lorry coming to colllect at 6.15am on Friday morning!

Would love to return. Well done on a fabulous refurbishment.

My partner and I both loved Sunshine Cottage - it had everything that you could possibly require.

  • 5 of 5

Sunshine Cottage was a lovely property to base yourself while exploring Cornwall. It has every amenity you could require to make your stay extremely comfortable wrapped up in a homely and tastefully decorated package. The location was an extra plus for us - a lovely village with places to eat just along the road - we enjoyed eating at the Seven Stars pub and the Waterfront - and they were both extremely welcoming. We would highly recommend this holiday cottage.

Ideal cottage for families

  • 5 of 5

An excellent base to explore the beaches of Cornwall. A lovely cottage with everything you need for a perfect stay, although the pub opposite can be a little loud at times. Two minor improvements could be a less squeaky bed in the upper bedroom and an outside hose to clean wetsuits. I would definitely return.

A great base for visiting the beautiful gardens of South Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

This delightful cottage is a perfect place for a restful holiday. From the spacious roof terrace there are views across the harbour to Falmouth, which can be reached in a few minutes on the ferry. There are lots of great places to eat locally with lots of fresh fish featuring on the menus, plus many beautiful gardens to visit.

Location

Originally named Nankersey, meaning valley of the reed swamp, the village was given its name by Dutch engineers from Flushing in the Netherlands who built the three main quays in the village. The grand houses on St Peter's Hill, the road that leads into the village, were owned by captains of the packet ships (mail boats) that docked in nearby Falmouth. The Spanish Armada intended to land here in their attack on England but they were not able to capture it.

Due to its position, Flushing is said to be one of the warmest villages in the United Kingdom. The beaches at Kiln are extremely popular in the summer months, offering superb views of Falmouth Docks, the Carrick Roads and St. Anthony's Head. There are two pubs, the Royal Standard on St Peter's Hill and the Seven Stars on Trefusis Road opposite Fish Cross. There is also a fish restaurant, formerly the Sticky Prawn, now the Quay Cafe located on Ferry Quay. Flushing Regatta Week is held annually during late July or early August, and features water-based activities such as bathtub racing, rowing, swimming and sailing races, sand-castle building contests, a mini-marathon through Mylor and Flushing, an open-air church service, a pub quiz, crab catching and a carnival on Saturday night, and has achieved marked popularity locally.

Falmouth is one of Cornwall's most popular places to visit because of its unique mix of attractions, water sports, beaches, history and place to eat. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Pendennis Castle are both high on visitors' lists of places to visit and the views from Pendennis on a fine day are truly magical. Falmouth is the sailing capital of Cornwall with its spectacular deep water natural harbour offering a haven for both cruisers and racers. Many events are held through the summer culminating in the famous Falmouth Regatta Week and associated shore side events.

As a university town many events are arranged by the students including annual exhibitions of art and photographic work. There is a Sainsbury supermarket 2 minutes away by car and a large Asda 5 minutes away.

The beaches at Gyllingvase & Swanpool are coarse sand and are wonderfully sunny south facing spots. You can ride the ferry to beautiful St Mawes for the day or take a delightful trip around the estuary stopping off at either Trelissick Gardens or Smugglers Cottage for a cream tea! There are plenty of places to eat & drink in Falmouth and recently Rick Stein has opened his Fish & Chip Restaurant & Oyster Bar at Discovery Quay adding to the superb mix across the town.

A short drive away is the Helford River. This delightful part of Cornwall includes places such as Mawnan Smith, Helford Passage, Constantine & Gweek. The area has many delights such as Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens, The Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Goonhilly Earth and Satellite Station and The Ferry Boat Inn. Daphne du Maurier wrote her only romantic novel Frenchmans Creek about the River Helford, and who can blame her, the views really are beautiful. Glendurgan Gardens, run by the National Trust, hold a 176 year old laurel maze and the 'Giants Stride' swing is very popular with children. St Anthony-in-Meneage holds a lovely little church primarily of medieval architecture. Maenporth beach, tucked away on the westerly edge of Falmouth Bay and boasting spectacular views, is well worth a visit.
