Renters be aware!!!!
Upon arrival we found out the washer wasn’t working, made for a kind of stressful first day as we all packed light knowing there was a washer. The following day the toilets started backing up ended up having to wait to have the holding tank pumped. The third day we decided to cook on grill and it ran out of gas half way through cooking. When we went to throw out some trash majority of the cans were still full from previous renters. The drawers in the kitchen were full of mouse poop. Also, there was a terrible ant problem in the kitchen. The last night of our stay we really wanted to cook out so I ended up having to go out of my way to fill the propane tank. (Which she did reimburse me for with a little extra) but was the last thing I wanted to be doing on my vacation. That same night my family and I were all on the deck when my mother in law and father in law went to husk some corn he moved his chair and fell through a rotted hole in the deck. A little while later my mother in law went to shut the door to the house and her heel fell through another rotted area on the deck and twisted her ankle. There was a breaker that kept tripping in the kitchen living room area and the ac unit in the back bedroom kept freezing over. Had to keep shuting it off, Because it made a terrible noise. I really feel when renting a house a lot of the inconvenience we dealt with should be part of a regular maintenance schedule. I happen to be a very reasonable person and don’t let little things bother me. It just seemed as though it was one thing after another. I contacted owner about this in hopes that we would get reimbursed some of what we paid to stay there because of all the inconveniences, to no avail! I have stayed at many other places in the same price range that were regularly maintained and taken care of really well. This place is way over priced for what it is. If your plan is to relax and have a worry free time this is not the place!!!
It was a terrible week- full of inconveniences for all. Everything seemed to go wrong- though the cottage was almost entirely rebuilt last year and the heat pumps and washer, etc are all brand new appliances. There is a holding tank that does fill up and just happened need to be emptied on their week- pumped within an hour’s notice. The washer was fine- it wouldn’t drain because the tank needed to be emptied. The cottage sits too close to the water to have a traditional leach field system. There is always a mouse or two- it’s a camp on the lake. However, we set traps weekly and disinfect all drawers before each turnover. I resent the description “filled with” as I have only every seen a spec or two while cleaning them myself. I did not get a call about the breaker tripping, the heat pump freezing up, or about the decking until weeks after their checkout. As a property owner, I need tenants to report things that are broken or malfunctioning so they can be fixed. I do not live there, so I rely on their information. No one would expect a 10 month old heat pump to breakdown. The next tenant informed us of the problem and it was taken care of immediately. After she informed me about the gas running out, I sent a check for more than twice what they paid for the propane for the grill to compensate them for the inconvenience of going to the gas station 5 minutes away. Then they tried to get me to send more money for the other issues that were never even reported up until that point- that seemed a little suspect. I agree their timing was terrible and that everything seemed to go wrong during their week- but these are not maintenance issues. Only the propane running out could have been prevented in advance.
Lovely week in Mid-Coast Maine
Very comfortable and cozy cabin for a family of four. We had lovely weather and good fishing in Duck Puddle Pond. The windows facing the lake are wonderful that even in rainy weather, the cabin would feel cozy.
The second bedroom is very small, fine for kids but tight for four adult-sized residents.
There is a small cabin right next door, but it was empty most of the week we were there. Not a problem, but potentially could change the dynamic of your stay.
Overall, excellent stay. Hosts are available if needed, but not around otherwise. Hope to return in a year or two!
This was a great place to stay! Private and relaxing! Has all the things you could ask for!
Great cottage and quiet, beautiful Duckpuddle Pond!
My husband and I and our two boys just stayed at this cottage for a week over the 4th of July, and by the second day were already talking about booking again. This cottage is surprisingly spacious inside, and everything is very clean and comfortable. It is well-stocked for cooking and we appreciated that all linens were available for bed and bath as well. Duckpuddle Pond is nice and warm and perfect for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. We loved that the deck goes right down to the dock. We only saw and heard one or two boats on the Pond all week. We were so happy to find that in addition to the canoe pictured there are two kayaks provided. This place is super sweet and despite its close proximity to Route 1 is very quiet. We heard loons and bullfrogs, saw families of Canadian geese, and caught three different kinds of fish. It was a fantastic place for us. We were pleasantly surprised to find great air conditioning throughout the cottage, which helped cool things down inside once in a while on the extra hot days.
Beautiful Water Front
Do not rent from these owners... Maine is beautiful as well as the pond the property is located on- But that is the only positive thing I can say about this property!
These guests LOVED their stay and actually gave us a great written review until we charged them for the items that they took home with them! There is much more to this story...
