About the property

Luxury holiday rental 5 mins walk to bars & bistros. On site parking & free wifi

Ideally located, luxuriously furnished, thoughtfully equipped, and private, with beautiful views, you will be glad you booked Matisse from the moment you step through the door.

Matisse is one of four holiday apartments at Maison Pierre D’Or, a traditional stone house on the edge of the medieval centre of Sarlat in the stunning Perigord Noir region of Dordogne in South West France.

Matisse is the perfect base from which to explore the town and its surrounding countryside. It’s ideal for couples (although suitable for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children), and is within an easy 5 minute stroll into the medieval centre with its markets, bistros, picturesque squares and historic buildings.

The apartment features a cosy living room, a very comfortable bedroom, a sociable and well equipped dining kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a light and airy conservatory which leads on to a private balcony with a superb view over Sarlat. This is the perfect place to share a glass or two of good local wine and to relax in the sunshine.

Attention has been paid to the details. The apartment has been furnished with great looking light, oak furniture. The bedroom has an exceptionally comfortable, king size bed with fresh, crisp, cotton bedlinen and soft pillows. The shower room has a walk in shower with hot water on tap and fabulous fluffy towels. The TV receives both French and English channels. There are quirky lamps and paintings by a local artist, making Matisse the perfect place for your stay in Dordogne.

Oh, and there is free on-site parking and free WiFi (high speed).

If your dates are booked at Matisse, please take a look at our other three apartments, Monet, Cezanne and Gauguin.

About Maggie Ledra

I was born in UK, and now recently retired, have decided to move to France

My husband's first language is French and I can speak French well enough to get by.

We fell in love with south west France and decided that if we don't move now we never will. So the adventure begins

Maggie Ledra purchased this apartment in 2016

Why Maggie Ledra chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

We bought Maison Pierre D'Or in September 2016. It was already established as luxury holiday apartments.

We have spent the first year painting and decorating and refurbishing the apartments to make them comfortable and welcoming places to stay. We aim to give all our guests a wonderful time whilst staying with us.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is on the edge of the old town. Conveniently positioned, just a short walk of 10 minutes and you are at the centre of medieval Sarlat.

The house consists of four apartments which all have their unique character. There are two large apartments which are named after French painters: Monet and Matisse; a smaller apartment: Cezanne; and a spacious loft studio: Gauguin.

There is parking at the house which is a great bonus during the busy summer months when parking in the centre is at a premium.

Sarlat is a stunning place, with wonderful buildings and markets. It is situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, historic chateaux, prehistoric caves and wonderful gardens. We think you will fall in love with it too.

Delightful home-from-home

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Matisse is just lovely. The owners are super friendly and generous and treat guests as though they are friends passing through.

Equipment and furnishings are really superb and the apartment is both quirky and surprisingly spacious. The location is perfect for exploring Sarlat on foot and very well situated for visiting the many attractions of the region.

This is one of those (few) rental properties which you would be very happy to return to regularly. Many thanks to Maggie and Ahmed - you are great hosts.

Lovely Apartment, Good Location and Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to the Dordogne region, which is really very special. The apartment is very clean, comfortable and well appointed. The location is good, within reasonable walking distance to medieval section of Sarlat, and close to D704, the north-south highway for the region.. Ahm and Maggie are wonderful hosts, and very helpful. They have thought of everything in furnishing and stocking the apartment. We would definitely stay here again and we highly recommend it to anyone considering a visit to Sarlat!

Perfect location to explore the Perigord Noire

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location! Beautiful, spacious and clean apartment with all the mod cons. Fabulous view back over Sarlat...especially gorgeous at night. Just a 10 minute easy walk in to the old town. 5 minutes by car to a large Carrefours supermarket and petrol station. Easy drive to major tourist routes. Domme, Beynac-et-Cazenac and La Roque Gageac just half an hour away.

Great restaurants within walking distance. Bistro l'occtroi and Chez Bernard worth a look. Lovely, welcoming hosts, Maggie and Ahm! Highly recommend.

Perfect Location! Perfect Unit! Wonderful Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We booked Maggie's property quite far in advance (8 months) as it looked just perfect for the 2 of us; we were glad we did. We are a retired couple from Canada and have rented many properties in Europe and North America, this property is certainly one of the best. Upon arrival Maggie and her husband Ahm were waiting for us in their beautiful garden and their warm greeting was appreciated after our long drive. They toured us through the spotless Matisse super cute unit, which had absolutely everything we needed. A fabulous gift basket (with wine) occupying the kitchen table, milk and water in the fridge, was very much appreciated until we got to the store. We took advantage of the local markets during our week long stay and cooked in quite a bit and the lovely kitchen is very well outfitted with new and quality cooking utensils, pans etc. The patio is exactly as pictured and we took advantage almost every evening to look out over historical Sarlat and enjoy a glass of wine. The bathroom is completely updated with a wonderful (roomy) shower with very good water pressure.

The bed was comfy and we had good space to store our clothes. A real bonus was English TV (although limited time for it), the Canadian NHL Hockey playoffs were on, what a treat! The enjoyable and easy 10-15 minute walk (mostly flat) into town was perfect as you get to leave your car behind on the property parking spaces, and it's a good opportunity to stretch your legs and wear off some of the wonderful local food. Two great supermarkets are available for all your necessities, you can walk to the Carrefour or at the other end of town is LeClerc (our favourite) as they have a great wine selection and wonderful made up dinners of local products should you want a relaxing evening at home vs. taking advantage of the many local restaurants. Maggie's property was easy and perfect access for our many day trips, visiting neighboring towns, awesome local and historical sites. This unit is bright and spacious with lovely skylights, but make sure to wander through the lovely garden areas. It's a quiet neighborhood and we didn't hear anyone in the other units. The temperature in Sarlat was mild during our stay, coolish at night, so we did have to turn on the heat, which warmed up the unit nicely. Thank you Maggie and Ahm for a wonderful stay and for all your helpful recommendations and guidance. Best regards, Blake and Shirley

Wonderful, professionally run property

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and Ahm were a delight to meet and their property was gorgeous. As seasoned travelers we have stayed at many properties - this was one of the nicest. Attention is paid to the smallest detail and great care is taken to ensure the comfort of guests. The apartment has all the conveniences you need, and the clothes dryer was appreciated! The welcome gift basket was a special bonus. Easy walking distance to medieval Sarlat meant we could work off some of that champagne and foie gras! :) We were stunned by the beauty of the Dordogne region and enjoyed exploring all the back roads - with a castle around every corner. We would not hesitate to stay here again and will certainly recommend it to our friends. Thank you Maggie and Ahm!

Sarlat la Caneda is a town in the Perigord region of Dordogne. It has all the shops and services you would expect to find in a town. It has a famous medieval centre which is full of shops and bistros and there are big markets filling the town on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The surrounding region is famous for caves, gardens, chateaux and beautiful countryside. The Lascaux caves are a must see, and it's worth booking in advance during July and August. The river trips, either by boat or canoe are beautiful and you will see chateaux and villages built into the rocks from the river.
