About the property

Luxury holiday rental 5 mins walk to bars & bistros. On site parking & free wifi

Ideally located, luxuriously furnished, thoughtfully equipped, and private, with beautiful views, you will be glad you booked Matisse from the moment you step through the door.

Matisse is one of four holiday apartments at Maison Pierre D’Or, a traditional stone house on the edge of the medieval centre of Sarlat in the stunning Perigord Noir region of Dordogne in South West France.

Matisse is the perfect base from which to explore the town and its surrounding countryside. It’s ideal for couples (although suitable for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children), and is within an easy 5 minute stroll into the medieval centre with its markets, bistros, picturesque squares and historic buildings.

The apartment features a cosy living room, a very comfortable bedroom, a sociable and well equipped dining kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a light and airy conservatory which leads on to a private balcony with a superb view over Sarlat. This is the perfect place to share a glass or two of good local wine and to relax in the sunshine.

Attention has been paid to the details. The apartment has been furnished with great looking light, oak furniture. The bedroom has an exceptionally comfortable, king size bed with fresh, crisp, cotton bedlinen and soft pillows. The shower room has a walk in shower with hot water on tap and fabulous fluffy towels. The TV receives both French and English channels. There are quirky lamps and paintings by a local artist, making Matisse the perfect place for your stay in Dordogne.

Oh, and there is free on-site parking and free WiFi (high speed).

If your dates are booked at Matisse, please take a look at our other three apartments, Monet, Cezanne and Gauguin.

About Maggie Ledra

I was born in UK, and now recently retired, have decided to move to France

My husband's first language is French and I can speak French well enough to get by.

We fell in love with south west France and decided that if we don't move now we never will. So the adventure begins

Maggie Ledra purchased this apartment in 2016

Why Maggie Ledra chose Sarlat-la-Canéda

We bought Maison Pierre D'Or in September 2016. It was already established as luxury holiday apartments.

We have spent the first year painting and decorating and refurbishing the apartments to make them comfortable and welcoming places to stay. We aim to give all our guests a wonderful time whilst staying with us.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is on the edge of the old town. Conveniently positioned, just a short walk of 10 minutes and you are at the centre of medieval Sarlat.

The house consists of four apartments which all have their unique character. There are two large apartments which are named after French painters: Monet and Matisse; a smaller apartment: Cezanne; and a spacious loft studio: Gauguin.

There is parking at the house which is a great bonus during the busy summer months when parking in the centre is at a premium.

Sarlat is a stunning place, with wonderful buildings and markets. It is situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, historic chateaux, prehistoric caves and wonderful gardens. We think you will fall in love with it too.

Old building beautifully renovated so the apartment is very comfortable with a nice touch of character. Has all the facilities and nice little touches to make your stay very comfortable and enjoyable. Easy stroll into town one way, easy 5 min walk the other way to a very large supermarket. Perfect for us. Great hosts

Wonderful, professionally run property

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and Ahm were a delight to meet and their property was gorgeous. As seasoned travelers we have stayed at many properties - this was one of the nicest. Attention is paid to the smallest detail and great care is taken to ensure the comfort of guests. The apartment has all the conveniences you need, and the clothes dryer was appreciated! The welcome gift basket was a special bonus. Easy walking distance to medieval Sarlat meant we could work off some of that champagne and foie gras! :) We were stunned by the beauty of the Dordogne region and enjoyed exploring all the back roads - with a castle around every corner. We would not hesitate to stay here again and will certainly recommend it to our friends. Thank you Maggie and Ahm!

This was a spacious, immaculately clean, comfortable apartment that was thoughtfully furnished.

  • 5 of 5

First, the location on the edge of Sarlat allowed a quick, easy stroll into town. With private parking we never had to worry about where we were going to park and when we went on day trips we didn’t need to struggle with the tiny crowded streets of the old town.

The apartment was spacious with a bedroom, living room, eat/in kitchen, sunroom, private deck overlooking the town, and bathroom. Recently renovated, everything was new and fresh. Furnishings were comfortable and the owners obviously considered the varied needs of the guests. From the big fluffy towels to the many we’ll- chosen kitchen utensils, everything was thoughtfully selected and placed. I particularly appreciated having a washing machine and dishwasher in the apartment. A vented clothes dryer was also available. The owners even supplied the necessary detergents. The bedroom had plenty of space to unpack. The TV had both French and English stations. I appreciated all the windows that made the space light and airy.

The friendly owners live on-site. While they were available if needed, I never felt as though they were intrusive.

If given the opportunity, I would gladly stay in this apartment again.

Wonderful place, lovely hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Spent 3 nights in Sarlat, one of the best VRBO we’ve had. Spacious, clean, and very welcoming hosts. Gave us enough coffee, milk, snacks, wine to start our visit in comfort. Apartment much nicer than pictures show, large kitchen, parlor, bedroom, sitting room, patio overlooking city. Close to city center.

Hosts met us, gave us tour advice, help with everything. Knowing we didn’t have GPS, Maggie gave us her device programmed for Rocamadour so we wouldn’t get lost. Highly recommend!

Perfect location for Sarlat and trips beyond

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and Ahm met us when we arrived into Sarlat. They showed up around the perfect place that became our home for 3 nights. It is ideally suited for a very short stroll into the medieval town centre, passing a great boulangerie and bistro on the way. We ate out 1 night and cooked in the spacious kitchen on the other two, dining on our own little terrace. The brilliant food market and specialist stores in town providing all the ingredients. The parking right outside was ideal as we used the gite as a base to out and explore the area. Will definitely go back next time we are in Sarlat.

Perfect holiday rental

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and Ahm were perfect hosts - their apartment is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. It was the ideal place to stay to explore Sarlat and the surrounding country side. It's only a five minute walk to town. I can't recommend it highly enough. Perfect.

Sarlat la Caneda is a town in the Perigord region of Dordogne. It has all the shops and services you would expect to find in a town. It has a famous medieval centre which is full of shops and bistros and there are big markets filling the town on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The surrounding region is famous for caves, gardens, chateaux and beautiful countryside. The Lascaux caves are a must see, and it's worth booking in advance during July and August. The river trips, either by boat or canoe are beautiful and you will see chateaux and villages built into the rocks from the river.
